hey remember when that christmas shoe bomber thing happened and republicans were like "DONT MIRANDIZE HIM HE'S NOT AN AMERICAN CITIZEN"

and we assumed by that statement that they meant that any american citizen deserved to have his miranda rights read to him

well call me a mother fucker:

http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2010/05/04/election-year-terror-question-to-mirandize-or-not/

Quote :
"
Arizona Sen. John McCain, just a few months from his primary, made clear his position on "Imus in the Morning" Tuesday: The Justice Department should not give suspected Times Square car bomber, Faisal Shahzad, his miranda rights. "Obviously that would be a serious mistake until all the information is gathered," he said.
"

You got that right. An AMERICAN FUCKING CITIZEN, and they don't want to mirandize him.

So much for "CONSTITUTION" and "MY RIGHTS" until the bitter end, eh?

Bloomberg should've asked himself..which group has already caused more acts of terrorism in NYC? Tea-party people or Muslim radicals?

Muslims in the U.S. don't have anything to do with the people involved in the September 11th terror attacks.

Nice one

I guess you missed all the news about him being a US citizen, going to Pakistan for 2 months to a suspected training camp, coming back and trying to bomb times square, (which AQ claimed) then was trying to get out of dodge.

Nope, just defaulted to name calling. Classic

http://wcbstv.com/topstories/times.square.car.2.1673653.html

More than a dozen people with American citizenship or residency, like Shahzad, have been accused in the past two years of supporting or carrying out terrorism attempts on U.S. soil, cases that illustrate the threat of violent extremism from within the U.S.

Among them are Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, a U.S.-born Army psychiatrist of Palestinian descent, charged with fatally shooting 13 people last year at Fort Hood, Texas; Najibullah Zazi, a Denver-area airport shuttle driver who pleaded guilty in February in a plot to bomb New York subways; and a Pennsylvania woman who authorities say became radicalized online as "Jihad Jane" and plotted to kill a Swedish artist whose work offended Muslims.

So basically the common thread I'm getting from all of this is their religion. They might come from different countries, be of different race, have different citizenship, but that one constant is islam.

I don't get the hubub over the miranda rights. Why does it matter if they read him those rights? Does that change the way he can be prosecuted or something? Certainly if they don't read him those rights and then question him, they run the risk of losing valuable evidence, so what is the benefit to not reading them?

^^ i don't think there's any benefit to NOT reading them.

The rights don't "activate" when they are read to him, he and anyone in police custody, automatically has those rights anyway. If he wasn't read those rights, but it could be shown he was aware he had those rights, then the prosecution would most likely be okay.

I don't understand why the media is claiming that this guy had bomb-making training. he put a bunch of M-80s in a pressure cooker, stuck some propane tanks in the back of a truck along with a can of gas, put in a bag of fertilizer that didn't even contain ammonium nitrate, put a clock on top, and threw a sparkler on top. He filed the VIN number off of the door but didn't remove it from the other 12 places it's located on the vehicle. Are we really supposed to believe that terrorists are trained to build a shittier "bomb" than what 90% of American housewives who watch CSI would be capable of building?

he's dumb shit enough to want to kill a bunch of innocent people, isn't he?

haha, was it not even AN fertilizer? or did you mean to say that he didn't mix any sort of fuel (diesel, nitromethane, etc) with it?

we should make an example of him.

build a stockade in Times Square, strip him to his tighty whiteys, shave USA #1 in his head, and allow tourists to throw rotten fruits and vegetables at him.

The miranda thing is stupid. The only thing I can guess is that we want to get intel out of him rather than evidence, which I guess makes sense...but realistically, this guy has been around long enough to be aware of his rights and won't talk regardless of whether or not they're read to him.

I never thought that; you did. all the redneck conservatives I know could build a decent bomb out of ANFO. Not only would they get the mix ratio correct, but they would understand that it takes a good amount of another explosive to detonate the material. they'd also know where to look to try to get rid of all of the serial numbers on a vehicle, although most of them would be smart enough to realize you can't make a VIN invisible to X-ray just by filing it off.

perhaps, but when it's on international TV that your green cooler full of water has time square shut down... why not call the cops and say "hey, that's my green cooler and it's full of water"
