So even during the few fast breaks every game, a basketball player will never sprint more than 30 yards at a time. Basketball players stand still and "jog" just as much, if not more (probably more) than soccer players. If it's not a fast break, the only time a basketball player is "running" is when he's trying to create something with the ball or when a shooter is running around screens.
To think that any basketball player has more endurance than a high level soccer player just shows your ignorance." |

Not all game, but forwards consistently come back for corner kicks and defenders always come up for corner kicks. And there is tons of overlaps with fullbacks and halfbacks. And midfielders always play from line-to-line.
And that's just the length of the field. Central midfielders are all over the place, and there is a decent amount switching sides during the course of the game.
And I didn't even mention substitutions. Where a majority of the players play a full 90 minutes. Only certain players like Kobe, Wade, and Lebron go the full 48 in basketball.6/21/2010 1:55:21 PM |

So let me get this straight. Because basketball players don't have to run for as long a sustained period as soccer players, that means they don't have the endurance to run with them? You sure are downplaying the conditioning of elite NBA athletes, and you call me ignorant? lol

I think most Umps are pretty solid when it comes to maintaining their strike zone. Anyway it's always fun to bitch about calls. Though when Umps don't call lowzone pitches I get pissed. 6/21/2010 1:57:35 PM |
Kurtis636 All American 14984 Posts user info edit post |
Sure they're usually ok about maintaining it, but the problem is that you don't know what you're getting from one ump to the next. Even worse is the "expansion of the strike zone" from side to side that guys like Glavine were so famous for. It's not his fault, he just hit his spots. It's on the ump to make sure that the fucking pitch crosses some portion of the plate in order for it to be a strike. 6/21/2010 2:00:03 PM |

when did lafta change his story from taking a "beating" to most athletic?
the real question is who is going to win in a fight? a football team or a soccer team?
soccer is like track with a ball and net, great you can run far. I've heard so many pussy soccer players bring up that football players wear pads; yet like I showed in a year almost 5x more Football players had neck injuries than soccer players.
http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/news/20050420/neck-injury-most-common-with-football
Quote : | " * Football: 104,483 neck contusions, sprains, or strains; 1,588 neck fractures or dislocations; and 621 neck lacerations. * Soccer: 17,927 neck contusions, sprains, or strains; 214 neck fractures or dislocations; and 0 neck lacerations. * Ice hockey: 4,964 neck contusions, sprains, or strains; 105 neck fractures or dislocations; and 199 neck lacerations. " |
and in sports overall the 2nd most common injury is Neck Strain and Pain, so what does that tell you?

I'm downplaying their endurance compared to soccer players you idiot. You are the worst arguer on this board because you change the argument to fit whatever makes you look less stupid. Basketball players are great athletes. They are fast, strong, can jump high, and have decent endurance compared to soccer players. Soccer players are great athletes. They are fast, strong, and have excellent endurance.
My basketball coach in high school was notorious for making sure his basketball players were conditioned better than any other team we played against because we full-court pressed for the entire game. We had to meet ridiculous 1 and 2-mile run times or we went through rigorous endurance training. As a club level soccer player, conditioning for basketball was fucking cake for me. Even after they went through the endurance training, I could run those guys into the ground.
Bottom line is that soccer players run longer and more frequent sprints than basketball players throughout the course of the game. They get less rest. And if they aren't sprinting, they are are still running for much longer periods of time.
Therefore, their endurance is superior to the endurance of a basketball players. I don't see how you can argue against that.6/21/2010 2:06:41 PM |

so what
guys like Rondo, or Iverson in his prime, were known for never getting tired...you'd be hard pressed to find a picture of Rondo online where he has even broken a sweat...I'm not saying Eric Dampier has as much endurance than most soccer players...I'm saying a guy like Rondo definitely does
again, just because soccer players run for longer periods of time in a soccer game than a bball player in a bball game, doesnt mean elite bball players dont have just as much endurance...and then factor in better athleticism, and bam, Rondo beats 99% of soccer players in an endurance race
the only thing you're arguing is that soccer players use more endurance in a soccer game than bball players use in a bball game...thats completely separate from what they actually can do]6/21/2010 2:10:07 PM |

probably because they play a sport where the games only last 48 minutes, where they get frequent breaks for television timeouts, and they get substituted whenever they would be tired.

First, Football is definitely a tougher sport than soccer as far as contact and injuries go. I don't know how anyone could argue against that.
Second, using those statistics for your argument is pretty dumb. Those injuries relate more to the type of contact received in the sport rather than the physicality of it. Football players constantly hit, or get hit, with their heads. They are also airborne more than the other sports and are more likely to land on their head.
Those statistics would also implicate that Hockey is more physical than soccer. Which probably isn't the case, at least not by that ratio of injuries.6/21/2010 2:14:16 PM |

Hahah, so you can run slowly for ten miles.
What about sprinting at 100%, waiting ten seconds, and then sprinting again? Abruptly changing direction while doing so? Making a tactical decision while doing so? How's your overall leg strength in order to handle the ball?
Oh, remember that you can't sub out. So if your team loses the ball again you have to sprint. Oh, you're tired? Tough shit. Better keep sprinting back to help your team out.

i'm pointing out that soccer players don't "sprint for 90 minutes" or whatever else some of the people defending soccer like to insinuate

Gridiron football would have less injuries if they didn't wear pads. Those pads are like boxing gloves, where the point of them isn't to protect, it's to soften the blow so instead of one harsh blow it's a continuous wear down over the course of decades that causes the brain to turn into toothpaste. 6/21/2010 2:23:13 PM |

Anyway, I played hockey and baseball through high school. I never had a serious injury playing hockey. I had and still have a partially shredded ulner collateral ligament in my right elbow from baseball.
Therefore, baseball is a tougher sport than hockey.
