Not NHL, but some very entertaining goalie-on-forward violence:

- Montreal beats the Crapitals 5-0 the other day.
- Pat Burns used to be the coach of Montreal.
- The Devils honor coach Burns (who was their coach when they won the Cup in 2003) by wearing a PB patch.
- The Devils are now beating the Crapitals 5-0.

well this is fucked up. Someone stole all kinds of Pat Burns' belongings from his wife's car after his funeral

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=5866907&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines

Quote :
"Hours after his funeral, someone stole signed hockey jerseys from each of the 30 NHL teams and family photos from Line Burns' car. Even bed sheets from the hospital's palliative-care unit were missing.

The stolen items also included a designer men's watch, two suitcases containing Burns' and his wife's clothes, an iPad and jewelry."

This should be pretty awesome.

Quote :
"Mario Lemieux wil return to the ice in a Penguins uniform as part of the activities surrounding the Winter Classic -- but not as an active member of the team.

Lemieux, the Hall of Fame center and team co-owner, will join fellow former stars such as Paul Coffey, Ron Francis, Bryan Trottier and Bill Guerin in a Dec. 31 alumni game against former Washington Capitals on the outdoor rink at Heinz Field.

Among the Washington alumni will be Peter Bondra. Full rosters are yet to be announced."

caps alumni, lol

sylvain cote? dimitri kristich? joe juneau? maybe dino ciccarelli will show up and assault someone.

actually rod langway and dale hunter would be cool to see out there. this will be a good way to show caps fans that the franchise existed before 2005.

Maybe Scott Stevens will make an appearance since he played for them way back in the 80s. Would make the game interesting if nothing else!

Alumni game rosters.

Quote :
"Hall of Famers Paul Coffey, Ron Francis, Bryan Trottier and Larry Murphy will join Lemieux on the Penguins’ roster, while two alumni rookies – Gary Roberts and Billy Guerin – will add some much-needed “youth” to the team.

Other alums playing for the Penguins are Phil Bourque, Rob Brown, Rod Buskas, Jay Caufield, Bob Errey, Dave Hannan, Francois Leroux, Troy Loney, Greg Malone, Gilles Meloche, Craig Simpson, Frank Pietrangelo, Gary Rissling, Rick Tocchet, Kevin Stevens, Peter Taglianetti and Warren Young.

Eddie Johnston, Pierre Larouche and Randy Hillier will coach the Penguins, and Jack Riley – the team’s original general manager in 1967 – will serve as GM.

Bondra, a 500-goal scorer in his NHL career, leads the Caps’ roster, which also includes Michal Pivonka, Scott Walker, Sylvain Cote, Greg Adams, Don Beaupre, Alan Hanglesben, Nick Kypreos, Yvon Labre, Gord Lane, Craig Laughlin, Mark Lofthouse, Denis Maruk, Alan May, Paul Mulvey, Robert Picard, Errol Rausse, Pat Ribble, Ken Sabourin and Blair Stewart. Others may be added in the coming days."

"Changes appear to be taking place in New Jersey. According to the Newark Star-Ledger, the Devils have fired head coach John MacLean. The team is off to an NHL worst 9-22-2 start.

While the report didn't name a replacement, CKAC radio in Montreal is reporting that former coach Jacques Lemaire, who retired after the Devils first round playoff loss in 2010, is returning to the bench."

I hate how when a team is struggling (or just flat out suck) it's the coach who's the first to go. I know with contracts and salary caps that you can't just fire players but damn. While he's no Papa Sutter, John McLean was actually one of the better coaches I've seen in New Jersey since the late, great Pat Burns. Perhaps I am wrong and Line-Juggler Lemaire can salvage this season into something almost respectable given the atrocious defensive unit, and inconsistent goalie and a supposed superstar who isn't worth the $42,000 he makes a game. Enjoy it while you can, haters.

You people act like the Devils have been terrible since they won the Cup in 2003 when in fact they've made the playoffs each year along with a strong showing in the regular season. And there is nothing "rose-colored" about my assessment. I've certainly been a critic of this new direction but was optimistic (as any true fan would be) given that the Devils have always had a strong work ethic. I'll even go so far as to say they won't come close to making the playoffs this year for the first time in over a decade. It would behoove them to dump Kovalchoke in the off season (if even remotely possible), get back to being a defensively oriented team and shower Zach Parise with strippers and money because that's where our future lies.

It would behoove them to get a goaltender who can steal games for a team that has abandoned defensive responsibility. Marty's got the fourth-worst SV% in the league at .887.

Just for comparison's sake, young Mr. Ward is at .926, good for fourth-best.
