I have a lot of dislike for them for how they handled "success" a couple of times, losing to them would be simply an embarrassment (especially since UNC-CHeat destroyed them already). Winning would be nice and make us bowl eligible halfway thru the season, probably ranked in the top 25, AGAIN, and generally among the noticed programs around the nation (sortof).

i think this is a good point to stop the argument over whether its a rivalry or not. ECU should be beat simply because they are the next opponent.

State and unc-cheater hill will be playing their 100th football game this year. State and ezu will be playing their 27th game this year.

State and unc-cheater hill are founding members of the ACC, and were members of the Southern Conference before then. State and ezu have never had any kind of conference affiliation with one another.

State and unc-cheater hill battle each other for the top recruits in NC. ezu gets partial and non qualifiers.

There's plenty of historical precedent as to why unc-cheater hill meets the criteria of rival.

ezu...not nearly as much. A rival? Yes. THE rival? No.

As much as I like to rag on the Pirates, I would def.have to say I like there football team entrance, even if it is on a cheesy Pirate ship, and as far as game day experience and rowdiness of the crowd, the atmosphere in Dowdy blows MD, BC, UNC, Wake, UVA, and GT completely out of the water.


With that being said, there stadium entrance will be all the Pirates are going to be able to enjoy come Saturday!

The old rival or not talk. I guess it all depends on your age. Before Duke started getting consistently good in basketball NCSU vs. UNC was just as big of a nationally recognized rivalry as Duke vs. UNC currently is today.

I guess you have to be older than I am to remember a real heated rivalry between NCSU and ECU. It seems like more of a new thing that has starting up... ever since they tore our goalposts down after we lent them our field.

For that matter think of it this way. How would you guys like it if the administration decided to let UNC play a home game in CF because their field was under construction or something? I don't remember the details that much, I suppose there could have been outrage at the decision when we let ECU use CF.

Also, for that recent season they beat us in football. We went into the home game 3-8. We were done. It looked like a ECU home game in CF with all the banners and purple. You'd think more pack fans would come out to prevent something like that... but our season was done, so no one really cared. Many people sold or just gave their tickets to Pirate fans. I don't think that would have happened if our last game of the season was against UNC. Even with that 3-8 record.

This could be a rough outing for us. ECU's offense is much like Duke's offense of last season, that obliterated us. Really need our young DBs to step up and do a good job tackling. Our offense should be able to score fairly easy, and we need to make sure we put up points on every possession, this could be a shoot-out.

And to whoever said we only need to win ACC games, yeah definitely not correct. We need to win this game, get to 6-1 going into the BYE week. That way we get some more momentum, get the extra week to get healthy and get prepared for FSU, which will be the hardest game left on our schedule.
