Heya, Props to you for coming out in public! (Well, to TWW, at least.) I know how much pressure you're under, I dated a girl (well, pre-op MTF who prefers me to call her a girl, as you may well know. Most people viewed her as male), and I just want to say I'm supporting you on this. Here's a link to a blog from a friend of mine who also recently came out as female: http://translabyrinth.com/. It has some great insights, and she's with any luck putting up more on hormones, I can show you the message she sent to me on that if you like. But yeah, I'm just here showing you support and not being a troll about it. (What? A sincere TWWer?) ^_^ 11/15/2010 10:33:44 AM |

Good job on making the brave step of going public with your identity, Catch. This will probably be a tough time in your life as you adjust to new ways of presenting yourself to the world, and I hope you're able to find the support you need to make it a smooth transition. Supplanter is a great resource for insights into the local community.

I'm not trolling - People who feel the urge to live a deviant lifestyle have serious mental and emotional issues, usually do to being molested as a child.
Regardless - if you really cared about Catch 22, you would be encouraging him to seek professional help, not pay some quack thousands of dollars to take a sharp knife and cut off his cock. 11/15/2010 1:00:31 PM |

There have been "deviants" for as long as history has been recorded. I think by now that they should be considered a part of the normal spectrum of human condition. 11/15/2010 1:06:17 PM |
GGMon All American 6462 Posts user info edit post |
Its not subjective at all. Look at homosexuality - 3% of the population engage in such activity - thus, mathematically - it is a deviant activity.

Mathematically, being intelligent is a deviant activity (roughly 2-3% of the population at "genius" level). That's a seriously fucking stupid argument you're making there.

Mathematically - yes. Sexual preference is a choice, haircolor is not. 11/15/2010 1:13:30 PM |
Kurtis636 All American 14984 Posts user info edit post |
Two points:
It would be interesting if you could prove that bit about sexual preference. Isn't most of the scientific research on that decidedly against you?
Secondly, the good folks at L'oreal disagree. 11/15/2010 1:16:40 PM |
bottombaby IRL 21954 Posts user info edit post |
Not to mention 3% of the population engages in homosexuality isn't exactly a good statistic. It's difficult to measure something like that in discrete concrete numbers because of the fluidity of sexual attraction. While a person may not identify as homosexual or currently be in a homosexual relationship, that does not mean that they are not attracted to people of the same sex or that they have not previously engaged in sexual activities with members of the same sex.
^And yes, much of science disagrees with sexuality being a choice.

Quote : | "Its not subjective at all." |
uh, yeah, it is...your own link proved my point
by the definitions you provided, the only non-subjective way transsexualism is deviant is if you look at it from a purely mathematical perspective (whereby they deviate from the mean of heterosexuality)...which, as demonstrated above, could apply to a certain level of intelligence or hair color
in any other way, they're only deviants insofar as society is concerned, and that is a subjective measure
i'm not saying your not entitled to your OPINION, but psychologically speaking, transsexuals are not deviant...i just think you should be aware of the difference between your opinion and facts
until you can prove that all non-heterosexual tendencies are choices and not a function of physiological circumstances, you can't play the "deviant behavior" card

Well, considering there's a very good chance that sexuality is like most traits, not strictly tied to one gene, you'll probably never see it isolated to something as simple as a "gay gene". It's quite likely multifactorial, having both a genetic component and an environmental influence from the womb to puberty.
Still.... http://www.webmd.com/sex-relationships/news/20050128/is-there-gay-gene?page=2

Quote : | "The research and clinical literature demonstrate that same-sex sexual and romantic attractions, feelings, and behaviors are normal and positive variations of human sexuality. The longstanding consensus of the behavioral and social sciences and the health and mental health professions is that homosexuality per se is a normal and positive variation of human sexual orientation. There is now a large body of research evidence that indicates that being gay, lesbian or bisexual is compatible with normal mental health and social adjustment" |

well, thanks everyone for actually being mostly kind and actually being a little interested. i havent told anyone in my life so far about this so i was kind of using tww as a barometer for how accepting people might be. so its nice to see people being kind or at the very least begrudgingly accepting.
Quote : | "hold up...so let me get this straight. you feel like a girl, you have the anatomy of a man and dig chicks? what's wrong with just being an emotional man who is in touch with his feelings instead of becoming a transgender person who will be seen in public as lesbian. it seems to me that being seen in the public eye as a straight man will be a happier lifestyle." |
i think someone else touched on it on the last page but they got it mostly right. it certainly would be possible to continue living as male and still take up an interest in all the things i want to do. but what would you honestly think about a person like that?
also, some of you were asking about the causes of this? no one knows. its likely mostly physiological with a little environment thrown in. when i was still angry that this is who i was i was looking for answers. part of it will be genetics that have always been there because if you look at some cultures they have roles for "third gender" people and have had them for hundreds of years. but the biggest culprit seems like it might be bisphenol-A http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisphenol_a its bascially used in like every type plastic manufactured and can do some wonky stuff to other animals in experiments.
thats why i threw in that bit about it being 99% easier to change my body than it is to change my brain. because you cant change your brain. no one would choose to be this way. i know i sure didnt. but its who i am and im dealing with it the best way i know how.11/15/2010 2:05:27 PM |

I noticed at least one person (sawahash) used the wrong pronouns, but at least nobody used "it" to refer to the OP

GGMon, you may be unaware, but according to the Harry Benjamin Standards of Care someone seeking SRS (sexual reassignment surgery) needs a lot of counseling to ensure ze isn't insane and must live hir life full-time for about a year presented as the gender to be transitioned to (along with plenty of hormone treatments), and Catch 22 will need to come up with thousands of dolla bucks because none of this is usually covered by insurance
also SRS is more involved than the Limbaugh caricature of a "choppadickoffame" and includes the flaying of the penile skin, the removal of the erectile tissues at the root, orchiectomy (removal of testes), and inversion of the penile skin to make a faux vagina, with faux labia made from the scrotum and the glans serving as a faux cervical cap and again, thousands of dolla bucks and prolly no insurance coverage, and the doctors who would do this are few and far between, both quacks and reputable professionals
more surgical operations (again, expensive and not covered) include electrolysis of facial and body hair, and FFS (facial feminization surgery) 11/15/2010 2:05:36 PM |

Personally, I wouldn't think anything of them; just another person. Honestly, if you're worried about threats and harassment, you might get even more of that post-op rather than just remaining as a guy with some "strange" quirks. Besides, unless you're worried about that threat of violence or harassment, do whatever is right for you. It's about your own choice of self-expression, not what other people are going to think.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you say earlier in the thread that you didn't express any interest in cross-dressing and that sort of thing? I realize you might want to keep some things private so feel free not to give a specific answer, but if you stayed a guy, how would any bystander even know about your sexuality unless you're presenting it outwardly in some obvious way?
