haven't played a video game that long in a while

great stuff... haha i like how they pretty much made a big budget adventure game without telling people it's an adventure game.

^^^ you can skip some cutscenes, but i think they prevent you from skipping conversations because a person's tells and such are so important to figuring out if they're telling the truth or whatever.

i had to interview a child about one of their parents' deaths

it really pissed them off when i accused them of lying about something trivial, and the evidence i chose to use to dispute their lie was graphic details about the parent's murder

So the motherfucker that worked for the railroad admitted to going through the guy's wallet...and then the correct choice for his next statement contradicted that.

Grrrr....

It's fun, but the non-playable cut scenes are far out weighing the playable elements right now.

Good so far, but already starting to feel a bit repetitive. I don't care for the foot chases. Also, when I'm chasing someone and Phelps whips out his pistol is that an all clear to shoot the suspect, or can I get in trouble for shooting them in the back?

***spoiler***

One thing that irked me was the case where the dude got hit by a car. When I was first on scene I found the bloody knife, and my first thought was to submit it as possible evidence. It doesn't present that as option, so I had to go interview the widow, then go to the coroner, where he told me to go find the knife.

***spoiler***

make sure you hold it and move it around in your hand until it vibrates and zooms in.

it happens automatically after you pick up the knife, feel the vibration, and then zoom in to examine it closer. A dialog will happen between you and your partner about the knife, how there are restaurants around and anybody could have tossed it in there and it's unrelated. Then you'll say something along the lines of having it bagged by the crime scene unit regardless.

Final note about ordering through Amazon. They refunded me 99 cents, as some other site dropped the price to 59 dollars. If you order with Amazon they automatically price match and refund you, even after you have purchased the game. Pretty cool, I will definitely go with them in the future.

I also sold my 'Broderick Suit' on eBay for 10 bucks yesterday haha. Thrifty

haha yep. Some were going for 20-25 bucks. I just slapped a buy it now on there for 10 since the demand was probably going to die down after a day or 2.

I think the code can only be used once, I'd rather have the 10 bucks

Quote :
"Sony's 3.61 firmware patch for the PS3, which attempted to secure consoles after the PSN breach, could be making older machines freeze or switch off.

This claim originated on an official Rockstar support page. However, this page has since been taken down, and Rockstar have stressed that this was not an official statement. The information was sourced by a member of their customer support team from the European PlayStation boards.

When the page was active, Rockstar support detailed "reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models."

And that it was "confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed."

Again, Rockstar have stressed that this was not an official statement. When contacted for comment, Sony said, "We don't comment on rumours or speculation about our products."

when you tell your partner to drive somewhere and it "skips ahead" to that destination, it auto-saves the game

this can be handy if you question a witness at that destination and mess up, as you can quit the game, and then resume it right where your partner drove up, in order to get all the questions right

or, if you simply want to mess around and torment the witness by accusing them of craziness

This game is going to take me forever to beat. I don't want to miss any of the story so if I miss any questions I contemplate restarting the game. Does anyone know of a way to exit and reload from your last save without restarting the game? Couldn't seem to do it last night.

Loved Penny and Kinsley in the bar car case mentioned above. Need to see if there are other Mad Men actors in this. "It's Cosgrove! From accounts!" *shotgun blast to the face*

it only saves after you reach critical points in the story. So you could always pause and just restart your current mission. Or if you mess up in an interview just quit the game before you finish and then reload.

i don't think the point is to get every question in the interview exactly right. The game has different paths that all lead to an outcome, some more ambiguous than others.

That's true. My success rate seems to be good enough but getting anything wrong in this game irks me to no end for some reason. I'm pretty sure that's why they didn't make it easy to reset like you can in GTA. Reset will take you to the very beginning of a mission no matter how far you are in and restarting the game is just a pain. I just need to roll with it.

you dont need to restart the entire mission/game if you want to redo an interview.
press start, then back, then quit. at the main menu, resume.

I wish there was a more tactful way to handle some of the questioning, the doubt option seems to have you yelling and screaming at the witness just like a lie half the time. It seems a little odd from just a conversation standpoint to just dumbly accept the truth or to start yelling, I'd like to see some smooth talking around to catch the witness in a contradiction type situation more often.

Phelps is a little too much of an asshole for me to like him that much

^^ doh

Doubt = yell at their face. Seems to fail at strong willed people and where its a dick move but sometimes it doesn't make sense. Seems too random to me but I could be missing the concept.

doubt is basically accusing someone of lying/withholding information without having proof to back it up. sometimes its yelling, sometimes its "_really_? you don't know this?"

and i definitely played a lot yesterday. heh finished story mode. now back to collect stuff.

even doubt and truth can be hard to figure.

like in the golden butterfly case when you are questioning the daughter. You ask her about her mom's missing jewelry and she kinda shies up and says she never pays attention to that stuff. The obvious tells that she is hiding something are there, so I chose doubt at first thinking he'd just ease her into it and get the info. I think he ended up yelling at her and calling her a brat or something. But then i tried again and chose truth and that's how he eases her into telling him more. Isn't quite right by definition.

Does horrible 1940s racism ever come into play?

Maybe that's going to be the sequel Birmingham Noir.

Social issues aside, I think a game where you play a runaway slave has incredible potential.

Lets see that 99 speed rating really come into play.

The game was getting boring, just running around answering questions, but with the current case I'm on, the clues mean something, and you have to determine where to go next... my attention is locked back in again. I hope there's more of this having to think stuff.

i'm still in homocide, honestly i assumed homocide would be one of the latter promotions in the game. traffic>homocide doesn't seem like the correct career path.

I'd think traffic crime in the 40's would be a much bigger deal than it is today, what with all the drive-bys with Model-T's and Tommy Guns.
