Besides the different view point, FPS and third Person Shooters are basically the same type of game. While you need to have a little more open map design than FPS, there's really nothing different.

So you're saying nothing would be lost if all valve games were 3rd person?

MGS3 was my favorite of the console games.

MGS4 was designed for people who had played the previous three games and delivered a great overarching storyline. It's still the best looking PS3 game I've seen and it was a launch (or near launch) title.

^^ Please read better, I'm saying that map design elements between 3rd person and 1st person is relatively going to be very similar. And personally, I wouldn't mind L4D series be 3rd person. Shit, I play Oblivion in both 1st and 3rd person and it still feels like the same game.

^and yes, very good looking game indeed. Just wished there was more playable parts. I probably would have enjoyed it more if it was just a complete machinemia movie.

You mean the era when we were in the middle/high school age groups? Nostalgia tripping and rose-colored glasses, but I, too, long for the carefree days of Unreal Tournament on Friday pizza nights, ghost recon/age of empires/Battlefield 1942 lan parties, and no responsibilities

I've come to the realization that as soon as art and entertainment becomes valued as a commercial commodity, quality goes to shit and the genre gets invaded by suits who don't really get it and are out for cash. happens to every genre of music, happened to video games, has happened to movies a long time ago, etc etc. the video game industry has just started to really get big money invested by publishers and big money means investors want little to no risk so we get carbon copies of things that might have sold well in their original incarnation. often these copies are the best of the bunch.
