Became unhappy and didn't enjoy their company anymore. We both changed, but she became someone that I could not love. It could have been a lot worse, we could have been married > kids > divorced. :whew:2/1/2011 8:20:27 AM |

Personally, my situation was that we lived apart for graduate school for 2 years and we became different people. I wanted different things than she did (plus, I feel I was far more mature coming out of graduate school than she was)...
It wasn't bad and I am happier that we did it...2/1/2011 8:49:39 AM |

People change a lot when they're young. I think it's sad to see people in their 20s who have been in a relationship for (some arbitrary amount of time) and ignore the underlying problems in the relationship or the fact that they've grown apart because they are in that comfortable stage and don't want to lose the time they have invested in it by cutting it off to find someone who is actually right for them. (call me kettle)
Because I have been through a few relationships that lasted 3-plus years before they fell apart, I want to date for a few years before considering settling down. As much as it sucks to say, I think you need to wait till the honeymoon phase of a new relationship is over to see if you can actually put up with each other's shit for the rest of your lives. 2/1/2011 9:14:52 AM |

This should be posted around campuses everywhere.
To answer the question, just shy of 11 years. For the reasons Skwinkle said combined with a specific lack of honesty from her.2/1/2011 11:07:55 AM |

and while people may change a lot when they're young, it's not like they stop changing. you are constantly evolving as a person. you aren't the same person you were 10 years ago and you won't be the same person 10 years from now. sometimes the person you're with doesnt change in the same direction you do.3/5/2011 7:38:45 PM |
