it may not be OP later on, but early it does 2x the dmg of any other weapon ive found. black knight didn't drop a sword for me and my garg as is 93dmg and my halberd is 115 (both not upgraded).

admittedly once i have the souls to upgrade my halberd to +5, the sword only does a bit more damage, but it does swing faster.

im heavily armored though so i like the reach of the halberd for my play style of slow and steady.

[Edited on October 24, 2011 at 3:03 PM. Reason : page 2 says i should farm for titanite shards to upgrade all of my armor.]

I got a +5 Raw Halbred and I love it. Though I am about to downgrade, and turn it into a lightning weapon, I think.

You can get the skull lantern further in to light your way or you can use "Cast Light" to find you way. At least it isn't very big. If you can see then it isn't tooooo bad. I got lucky and got a helm in Lost Izalith that automatically casts light. I saved that area for last because of all the bitching I read.

^ I wish there was a Rage compilation of stuff like that.

I think I'm turning into a Boss-Wuss. I've totally cleared Anor Londo without going into the boss room and I've done the same with the Painted World.

Keep finding myself wanting to go back and farm large titanite shards or humanity (got distracted when retrieving my bloodstain and lost the 11 I had stocked up)

finally picked this up again. went down in the sewers and swear i went every last place in there without killing the rat and didnt find one bonfire. offline mode sucks sometimes cuz at least you know when ur close.

choice was either go to the place just beyond it with the white mist or fight the rat. i pussied out and just ported home with my souls intact.

is what it is. hoping he wont be too bad.

went back down there, still didnt find the bon fire, but killed the rat with firebombs without even going down (silly rat). Didn't realize that wasn't the boss so i went and got my ass kicked by that dragon thing.

still finding this game to be 100x scarier/harder in offline mode, that's for sure.

You have probably found the bonfire by now...but anyway, jump down to where the rat is. At one end, there will be a slope going down. Hug the right or left side as you're sliding down. (there's a pit you fall in [will not kill you] if you slide down the center). Once you are done sliding keep an eye on the right hand wall. You'll make a right handed U-Turn and run up a staircase. I think you turn left, then climb a ladder. Go through the doorway that leads to a watery corridor and turn left. Bonfire.

I opened up the way to Kiln of the First Flame. Nice farming for chunks in there. Still have to backtrack and go kill Gwyndolin and Priscilla (heard cutting off her tail is a pain in the ass).

Trying to pick a new weapon to play with. Went from Dark Knight Sword to Lightning Spear +2 to Giant Club +15.

I need to decide which upgrade path I want to take the Shotel and Server. Thinking going chaos +5 or fire +10 on the Shotel.

I used Quelaag's Fury Sword on Priscilla. It made her turn visible after a few hits. I'm assuming other fire weapons will do the same. I destroyed her on my first play through but on my second I was able to cut off the tail. It didn't matter anyway since I never used the dagger.

^^ lol yeah i just looked it up since i had explored the entire sewers by that point. i forgot their was a door up there since i usually just fell down the other way.

still gotta work on kililng that dragon. each of these areas feels p small, but it just takes me a while to farm up to the right soul level since im slow and fat and have no magic really.

The dragon is simple, just wait for it to charge and wail away. Back up and repeat. That son of a bitch was intimidating as hell the first time I fought him though. I think that is the hardest part of the fight is being scared shitless.

this game sounds really fun...but i'm only really into multiplayer games these days. What online modes are there, and are they any good? particularly interested in co-op

I dunno if I could recommend it. To co-op you need to be at a lower level as co-op tends to die off around level 80 or so. The reason for this is that most players near that level are all doing PvP. I do not know why people are so obsessed with PvP in this game since most people use the cheapest tactics to win and it is laggy as crap. In Demon's Souls co-op was more fun because people would start the co-op at the beginning of the level and play through the level. Now, it is basically just tackle a boss at the end of the level because of the way the bonfire system is set up. Kinda hard to explain. tldr

Yea, this game gives you a feeling unlike any other. I would compare it to survival horror games like Resident Evil or Silent Hill but there is also a huge fear of dying but desire to push on to see what lurks beyond the next corner. It will throw something different at you in every single area. I must have lost 20,000 souls at one point and then 30,000 souls at another near the beginning of the game. That shit hurt. This game fills you with a sense of dread then triumph. It's more heavy metal than heavy metal.

does this game fix the bugs of demons' souls? for instance, if you had a long weapon, you couldn't use it in a narrow hall because it would clip or sometimes mobs would teleport up stairways if they couldn't walk in a straight line to you. i remember setting up a trap at the castle in stage 1 and most of the mobs would fall in and then one just teleported to me and knocked me in my own trap

^ true, but screw blighttown. the place lags, everything either poisons or toxics you (i can deal with poison but toxic is lame). you walk on 2ft wide planks 100ft in the air constantly. you get neverending mosquitos (annoying to hit with a polearm). YAR.

that said, i did enough grinding in previous areas that i was able to get through blighttown in a few hours and not grind at all in there.

im doing pure melee which doesnt help. i kinda wanna run through this again (when finished) without grinding and do all range/casting.

Yeah, I entered into Blighttown via the Valley of Drakes. I never went the route from the Depths. That path is garbage.

You can get down to the second bonfire from VoD super fast once you get the hang of it.

the worst part is that i was in valley of the drakes (was a little underleveled) but never found it.

im guessing the depths is the path that most people would find normally, but at least i got a lot of XP out of it. last night was much easier. I think I'm somewhat over leveled now so things are going more smoothly. knocked out all of sens fortress without too much annoyance.

and shit lightning spear does kick as much ass as advertised.

I started my NG+ last night. I put the pine resin stuff (lightning weapon buff) on it, jumped off the tower and hit the Taurus Demon for something around 3100. He had the tiniest bit of health bar left.

Trying to play through this one kind of fast. Went through Taurus, Gargoyles, Butterfly and Sif in about an hour+.

For anyone about to start the game, if you see yourself doing NG+, I would most definitely either choose the Thief or take the Master Key as your gift. If you're trying to fly through the game, the master key makes a huge difference. I was hoping you would be able to choose a different gift each time you did a new playthrough, but I was wrong.

Basically it's only use is to be traded for an item that will give you 1/10 of the requirement of Level 1 in the Darkmoon Blade Covenant. Starting gifts mean very little. Focus on what weapon you want to use and how to build it up.

I'm around SL 110 now on my NG+. In the next week or so, I think I'm going to start up an Int or Faith build character to hopefully keep around SL 55-65. I'd love to do some coop with you guys.

What's everyone's soul level?

I'm on PS3 by the way

For some reason I made a +9 morning star as my first divine weapon weeks ago. It now takes 4-5 hits to kill the skeletons in the catacombs..

Needless to say, it was time to make some new weapons.

I made a +10 divine greataxe and a +15 man-serpent greatsword. I'm pretty sure the man-serpent greatsword ended up having an A rating for strength to compliment my 50ish STR (backstabbed the archer that's just outside of the blacksmith's area for about 993). I am loving both of them.

game is definitely still solid. beat anor londo then went and tore through the catacombs. i just play it 3-4 hours a week max so it is really lasting and fun.

it seems like ppl really love 2hd in here, but the slowness really bothered me (probably back when my halberd's slowness was causing me to get hit all the time vs bosses). i just swap between a lightning spear, divine broadsword, quelaags fury, and raw halberd.

If anyone is making an Sorcerer build, let me know. I might go as high as 10 int with my faith build and I don't think I'm going to use ANY of the sorcery spells. I'd be game to trade any/all my playthrough's sorcery scrolls for chunks/miracles (especially miracles) or just give them for free.

My faith character is currently at 21. Hoping to not take him higher than SL 30ish.

Wrong! ALWAYS take the Master Key.

I am so hooked on this and Demon's Souls, almost as I was/am hooked on Fallout.

Oh and,

Quote :
"THE BUZZ: From Software’s 2011 release Dark Souls was a hit with countless fans around the world—fans who soon will be able to extend the adventure via upcoming DLC.

A source close to the project has told EGM that some form of expanded content is in the process of being finished up for Dark Souls, and will be released as DLC at some point in the first quarter of this year.

While we were unable to get further details on what this new DLC will feature, late last year it was discovered that From Software had filed for an interesting trademark in Japan. That trademark was for “Yami no Mori”—which could be translated as “Forest of Darkness” or “Dark Forest”.

While we have no reason at this point to believe that the two are connected, we also have no reason to instantly discount the idea.

EGM’s TAKE: The idea of DLC for Dark Souls is an interesting one for me. I really appreciated that the game felt like a complete project—versus other titles where you don’t feel like you’re getting the whole experience without having to spend extra money on a long list of digital add-ons. Dark Souls was what it was—and didn’t need to be anything more.

And yet—I would totally buy Dark Souls DLC. I absolutely adored the game, and the chance to experience new pieces of it is something that gets me as giddy as a schoolgirl.

The question is, how did this DLC come about? If it was planned during the game’s original release, then sure, I’d feel a little raw about being told there wouldn’t be Dark Souls DLC and then having it appear. If, however, this DLC now exists as a result of player demand and the game’s growing popularity, then I am perfectly fine with that. I have no problem with the concept of DLC—when it comes as additional content to satisfy consumer demand, and not when it’s shaved-off pieces sold separately to make extra money.

while the master key can screw you over early on (if ur not careful), it is way too useful in NG+ to not have.

i ragequit after dying a few one hit kills to smoug/orn in NG+ tho. even havels armor can't save you.

I played through Demon's Souls maybe 5 times. I only played through Dark Souls twice. All the backtracking started to get to me. I didn't feel a need to start a new build. There are too many games to play right now. I'm going back and quickly playing through games I have missed like Dead Space, Portal 2, RDR, Shadows of the Damned, Catherine and so on. Too many games.

I got like 12 builds, but most of them are PVP setups, a couple are just random shit I tested (like 99 Resistance, or something ridiculous like that, and about 4-5 build that I used mainly for story but they can be used for PVP.
