and in the end, as I said, it comes from the general public and ends up with the gov't for them to decide where it goes.

while I wouldn't go to that extreme, I'd prefer the system work closer to that. as I said, unemployment pay is a luxury, not a right. and it should have essentially little burden on anyone/any entity. and that is why a loan type system would be nice. I'm not a fan of money passing through the gov't or gov't programs for that matter. however, I do understand and sympathize with those who have lost a job due to circumstances outside of their control, i.e. generic layoffs (not quitting or being fired). And because of that, I do support some type of system to help them between jobs; however, there is no reason that couldn't be more of a loan situation between the individual and their former company.

Unemployment is an insurance that plenty of people pay for and never use. Y'alls is all up in arms just because some people are filing a claim?

Insurance? It's no insurance. You can't buy a policy to cover yourself.

If it were an insurance, do you think anyone would buy unemployment insurance?

Remember: Unemployment insurance would fall in line with car insurance, health insurance, fire insurance, business insurance, life insurance, home insurance, buyer protection insurance, mail insurance, and after property tax for car, house, boat, income tax, sales tax, license plate fees...

All these insurances are pieces of shit that we hardly ever use. Had we kept the money for all the insurances and taxes, we'd be able to replace our own car that broke down, or re-buy a household that got robbed, save for retirement, or better yet... support us when we get laid off.

you're so literal

everyone pays for it

the employer pays the employee less because they must pay for this insurance

the employer rolls the cost of this insurance into the products or services they sell

everyone pays for it

It's strictly income driven. They are unable to see that you're a trust fund baby from Broughton.

eta no one here thinks you're black or jesus, so..

Not really income driven. You just gotta have a list of bills that are more than your pay. Does the name BlackJesus offend you? How can you determine race on the internet? Should I speak ebonics to prove my blackness?

It's a response to

It says plenty of people pay for unemployment which is false. Businesses pay for it. Businesses never use it because employees do. The more interesting point is that he called it an insurance. Although my expressive aphasia experiences tell me he was looking for the word "assurance"

What if there really was an unemployment insurance available for employees?

The objective of my post was to show that the employee is already overburdened with mandatory taxes and they are already over-insured with mandatory property insurance, car insurance, and greatly needed, but not mandatory, expensive health insurance. There are plethora of other insurances that the majority of people don't subscribe like phone insurance, electronics insurance, flood insurance, fire insurance, comprehensive act of god insurance, terrorism insurance, etc...

In other words, IF unemployment WERE an insurance, I doubt anyone would subscribe.

Yes, the post was a waste of time and I regret it.

I'm sure people absolutely would depending on the cost and their situation.

The big one...Mortgage insurance is something that you can purchase. It's cheap from what I hear. One of my friends got it with her Bank of America mortgage. I want to say they offered it for free for the first couple of years when she refinanced, but don't quote me on that. When she was laid off they paid her full mortgage for a year. With the $500/week from unemployment + having no mortgage she was in pretty good shape.

There are other forms of unemployment insurance to fill the gap between government benefits and your current income. If government benefits were not available private companies would quickly fill the gap.
