I say soda
also in imitation of AndyMac... If you say the word THOUGHT, does it rhyme with LOT? - No How do you usually say the words DON and DAWN? - Different How would you say HOCK and HAWK? - Different (AndyMac said "sameish") What about COLLAR and CALLER? How do you say them? - Different (AndyMac said "almost the same") When you say ON, does it rhyme with LAWN or with JOHN? - JOHN The three words MARY, MERRY, and MARRY. How do you say them? - none of the above (MARY and MARRY are the same, but different from MERRY; AndyMac said "all the same") What vowel sound do you use in the beginning of the word HORRIBLE? - as in HORSE The words TENT and TINT. How do you typically say them when you are typically talking? - Different (AndyMac said "Almost the same") Do you say the words HEEL and HILL alike or not? - Different Do you say words like BATH, PASS, and STAFF with the same vowel as BAT, PACK, and TRAP? - Different Do you say ABOUT and MOUTH with the same vowel sound as LOUD and DOWN? - Yes Do you say RIGHT and PRICE with the same vowel sound as RIDE and PRIZE? - Yes (AndyMac said "No") How do you say the first A in PASTA? - as in FATHER If you say BAG does it rhyme with VAGUE? - No You say "I," does it ever sound anything remotely like "ah"? - Never (AndyMac said "A lot") How do you say the "oo" in ROOF? - as in FOOD (AndyMac said "Foot") If you say BOTHER does it rhyme with FATHER? - Yes (AndyMac said "No") and at the end I got "Northern" which is reasonable considering that we answered differently on almost half of the questions 5/4/2011 2:36:01 AM |

I grew up in a small town in western NC saying pop pretty regularly, but being in the triangle this long has converted me to soda.

I'm halfway joking, just think its funny because I expected a lot more people on here to have country accents. 5/4/2011 8:17:10 AM |

I'm sure I had a somewhat thick country accent growing up (grew up in extremely rural Eastern NC)...but it's pretty much non-existent these days with the exception of a few drawn out words that sneak out every now and then.
People who go home with me are amazed at how much different I sound than everyone else. 5/4/2011 8:25:14 AM |

if im in like a job interview with people w/ a different accent than me, i enunciate a lot more, but if the other guy is a 'free-talker' then ill just relax to try not to out-enunciate him 5/4/2011 9:19:13 AM |

Fact: Some people will think you are stupid if you have a southern accent. It is not the fault of the southerner but it might be a good idea to work on your accent especially if you are on the phone a lot or go on business trips. My dad is in sales and had to do this, that may be why I sound different from the people I grew up with.
I can't stand yankee accents and will run away from them at the grocery store because they annoy me so much. It's just the way it is.
Personally, I want a Scottish accent. 5/4/2011 11:31:24 AM |

I just get a kick when I get a call from a tech recruiter these days. They are usually Indian and I swear they use some kind of voice software to make them sound more American. It sounds like a hybrid Apu / John Wayne talking to me on the phone. I think they use it at call centers too. 5/4/2011 11:47:06 AM |
