Whoa, blast from the past. Randolph Childress heading back to Wake

Quote :
"ACC basketball legend Randolph Childress has returned to Wake Forest as an assistant director of athletics for compliance, fundraising and the mentoring of student athletes.

Childress, an All-America guard who in 1995 willed the Deacons to their first ACC title in more than 30 years, will work especially closely with the players in the men's and women's basketball teams.

"

I was only 12 when Wake won the 1995 ACC title, but I can still remember him hitting that last second shot over UNC. I think it single-handedly got me interested in college basketball. Glad to see he's back in my hometown.

It looks like the Georgetown guard who went after the ball got checked by a couple of the Chinese players and then swung at one of them. The rest is just insane.

I will say that I'm disappointed in our (USA USA) players' brawling skills. Coach needs to work on that, too many of our guys got separated, swarmed, and stomped.

Guess I'll post my ignorance here then. Someone help out someone completely ignorant in all things basketball...

1) What are college teams doing playing international games this time of year?
2) How are these games compliant with the rules that try to keep everything fair among all the teams? It seems like it gives a few teams extra practice time and it could even give teams unfair recruiting advantages. E.g. sign with us and you can go play with us in China.

Serious question.

Teams can play so many international exhibitions every so many years -- I don't know the specifics, but it's regulated. Seems like Duke goes abroad every summer, though.

[Edited on August 19, 2011 at 2:52 PM. Reason : non-major conference shit schools do it too, just less frequently.]

^if so, he's wearing watches on both arms

edit: or maybe that's just a bracelet on his left arm. Doesn't matter I guess, holding a water bottle wouldn't mean he was associated with the team, since apparently a lot of the crowd had water bottles that the pelted GT with.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayi_Rockets

Quote :
"Its founding team members served in the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The "Bayi" in their name represents the anniversary of the founding of the PLA. There are also other army teams with the Bayi name in other sports leagues, such as Bayi China Telecom in the WCBA, the men's soccer team Bayi Zhengbang, and the women's soccer team Bayi Xiangtan."

An Army basketball team harassing an American 'goodwill' gesture that happens to be the President's favorite sport, while the Vice President was visiting China?

There are a number of very intentional and foreshadowing overtones that are hard to ignore.

I thought about this same thing last week. Except my thoughts went more like:

It seems like it gives a few teams extra practice time and it could even give teams an unfair recruiting head start to the season. These teams now have a much higher chance of starting the season off strong.

Didn't State travel up to Canada in the summer a few years ago? Toronto maybe?

hey, remember when Jaybee was being objective as shit about this all and said nothing serious was in the charges and then packboozie said there was no way there was going to be a show-cause?

no... what I said was that AT THE TIME OF MY POST, there was no way for anyone to know if there would be show cause, I never said "it will never ever ever happen", in fact, I said that it possibly could, but at the time we didnt know.

you cant even be objective about simple statements of logic.

Now, what would be really funny is if we were talking about Pearl or the program itself as it looks like the program will not get any additional punishment... but I cant remember for sure

I mean, its not like we are talking about GT Football level stuff here...

I just like how Jaybee was all over Pearl's nuts from the very beginning. Yet there were a few of us who, although recognizing Pearl as a good coach, also felt that he was a slimeball and would eventually have Tennessee in trouble or leave amidst problems.

Jaybee is kinda like the UNC football fans who ignored Butch Davis' past.
