it's going to be close with the slams between fed and nadal, I have a feeling fed will still have the record though, age for age nadal is slightly ahead I guess but that confuses me a bit because fed at this time was winning 3 grand slams a yr clearly where as nadal hasn't been quite that dominant, I guess rafa started winning slams at a younger age

anyhow I guess rafa might already be top 5 ever, fed, borg, laver, sampras, rafa I guess

I agree with you, except I do expect him to continue. His play has been AMAZING this year, he's 4-0 against Nadal (including 2 on clay), and 3-1 against Federer.. and undefeated against everyone else. Federer played outstanding tennis to beat him here.

Maybe this loss shatters his confidence, and his level of play drops off, but Novak is the best player right now.

^^Yeah Nadal started winning the French titles at 18 whereas Fed was 22 (and 11 months) when he won his first slam.

going back and looking at their careers, it's freaking stupid borg retired at age 25 or whatever, he prob cost himself being the clear best ever, even over federer, I guess kind of similar to henin but she wasn't quite that good

Got to give my man Agassi some love. Not only was he transformational to the game of tennis, he's one of a very small handful of players who won ALL of the 4 Grand Slam events.

Secondly, one of the interesting things about Nadal is the relatively short time frame that he's won a very large number of Grand Slams. He didn't win another Grand Slam other than the French (6 times) until 2008, and now has 10 titles.

Not sure if that adds to or detracts from his legacy, but it's interesting to think about. Could he be dominant for another 3-4 years? If so, he'd easily get to the 15-20 Grand Slam range.
