at least it looks like you can use multiple gamepads in the future. nintendo saying you could only use one seemed like a shot to the foot, but this gives hope

Games that support multiple gamepads will be few and far between, if there are any. The developer would be writing code on the chance that (1) someone buys a second one, which would be expensive (~$150) or (2) someone brings their Gamepad to a friend's house, which is more likely but still a small percentage of the players.

I saw a display at a gamestop with what I assume were the launch titles. I can't remember all of them, but it seemed like a huge bust:

Assassins Creed III - no need to buy a new console for that
Pikmin 3 - ok I guess
Tekken - still a bit surprised they were still making tekken games, but I don't keep up with fighting games
Scribblenaughts - I assume they're doing something more than just porting the ds version
Batman Arkham City - just in case you haven't played it yet I guess
FIFA
Avengers - no screenshots on the box, no idea what that game will be like

I wasn't impressed. I'm sure they have their regular exclusive Mario titles and the like, but for some reason they didn't have any advertisements for those. Maybe it was just that particular gamestop, but that's a huge miss. I wouldn't buy a new console for any of those games.

It's release day. Who picked one up? I'm still holding out, although I do want to play the New Super Mario Bros. Wii U game.

We use the hell out of our Wii. The kids game more lately on their 3DS, but they wore out the drive in the Wii. They still stream with it every night as it is in their bedroom.

I think Santa is going to bring a 3DS Deluxe this Christmas. We are interested in New Super Mario Brothers U, Rayman Legends, Tank! Tank! Tank!, Funky Barn, and Scribblenauts. Most of those are for the kids though, not me. I really am only interested in New Super Mario Brothers myself.

Thanks to Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story I've been playing the Wii plenty the last few months, but both games look pretty damn ugly on an HDTV even though the graphics are impressive compared to other Wii games.

Mario Chase on Nintendoland with 5 people is just about the most fun thing ever

A friend of mine got it yesterday so I spent a solid few hours gaming with him and his roommates on it. Mario Chase and Metroid Blast are definitely the best games on Nintendoland but I can see it getting old if you don't have anyone to do multiplayer with. Even with just two player, Mario Chase would be impossible for whoever is playing toad. I think only three levels on Mario Chase is a little low too -- hopefully you can unlock more as you go along.

New Super Mario Bros WiiU was exactly like the one on the OG Wii with the addition of the gamepad thing which really doesn't add that much to it in my opinion. It is a fun game if you are just playing as Mario/Luigi & Co. but I kinda got bored playing with the gamepad. All you really do is draw blocks for people to jump on and a few other things.

I definitely feel like it's just playing Wii with an iPad though. 1080p is nice but the games we were playing (Nintendoland and New Super Mario Bros WiiU) were too bright/cartoony to really experience it. I heard the ZombieU game got kinda bad reviews. The WiiU definitely should have had a stronger launch library but I guess they wanted to get it out before Black Friday.

http://wiiudaily.com/2012/09/wii-u-zelda-game-coming-2014/

Quote :
"
The new Wii U Zelda will feature “about the same amount of dungeons as previous Zelda games, but these will be vastly bigger in scope and will be totally different from each other. Some dungeons are so big they’re broken up in 3 parts and will literally take hours to complete”. The Wii U Zelda game will also “have mini-games and side quests, but these are still on the drawing board”. Finally, the game’s composers are creating a brand new orchestral soundtrack with “hours of music”. No word on whether any characters will speak in the game. Regarding the story, he said “I really can’t comment on that [the story] because I have no idea what it is. I dunno where it’s set in the Zelda timeline. I’ve seen a grown up Link who looks like a much higher detailed Link from Skyward Sword. I haven’t see any cut scenes or boss fights either at this point. I’m not sure they’ve made any of that yet”.

One of the dungeons is said to be an entire forest. “The first test dungeon they made was a giant forest running on early and buggy Wii U hardware — the dungeon was bigger than the Hyrule field in Ocarina, and the whole thing is one dungeon.

If they take out the 15 hours of backtracking and tedious fetch quests, I'm sold. Fuck voice acting, Nintendo will screw that shit up.

Sounds like OOT's Water Temple.

I feel like I've played enough Zelda games to where I don't think there's going to be anything different enough to draw me in. Certainly not enough to get me to buy a console. The new Super Mario Bros Wii U (or whatever it's called) looks almost exactly like the wii version, no real interest there either.

The console launched and I didn't even notice until I came back to this thread. They need better and more exclusives, I'll probably check ebay to see the going price and compare it to the MSRP. I'm kind of curious as to the demand for the system.

I caved and picked it up on Wednesday. Played Nintendoland with family before Thanksgiving dinner and had a lot of fun. I'm enjoying NSMB Wii U but after the abysmal NSMB2 and the mostly recycled environments/music it's just not the same.

I've seen a lot of really cool art pop up in the Mii Plaza.

when are the following coming out for it?

- Pilotwings
- WaveRace
- MarioKart

If 2 out of the above 3 make it onto the platform I will consider.

I've seen one commercial, they aren't really marketing this all that much. Maybe they're waiting for some actual games that people really want before they call attention to themselves.

They probably have been advertising heavily but I'm no longer in their demographic so all their ads are well off my radar.

Playing Rayman Origins at a store for a few minutes was enough to make me want to grab one.

Even if the system's a total flop, I'll still probably pick one up whenever the next Zelda or Smash Brothers is released.

Set it up last night for the kids to find Christmas morning. So far we only have Nintendoland, but when the family gets together later today, we are going to get 2-3 additional WiiU games.

I had no idea this even launched. I doubt I will pick this up, even for a new HD Zelda. I'm going to hope that one of my friends buys it for their kid, gets tired of it, and lets me borrow in a couple years to play Zelda.

I'm just now getting around to playing Twilight Princess on the Gamecube.

Some people are nutting themselves, but all of the good stuff in the announcement you already knew if you followed Nintendo systems at all. A new Mario, Zelda, and Mario Kart are to be expected (I'll buy all 3, but they're not surprises by any stretch of the imagination). I'm not terribly excited about the Yoshi game because every Yoshi game since SMW2 on SNES was shit and it recycles the look of Kirby's Epic Yarn. The RPG and Fire Emblem games get a 'meh' for me.

They also announced that a VC 'migration' of sorts for the Wii U.

Quote :
"The Wii U Virtual Console will launch with a selection of NES and Super Nintendo games, though Iwata noted that it will not launch with the entire library already available on the Wii Virtual Console. The reason for this, said Iwata, is that Wii U Virtual Console games are being newly developed especially for Wii U and will feature the ability for players to save their progress and play directly on the GamePad. Furthermore, the Wii U Virtual Console will eventually include Gameboy Advance games. (What, no Virtual Boy?)

NES games will run from $5 to $6, while Super Nintendo games will run from $8 to $9. However, users who already own a particular NES or SNES game for the Wii Virtual Console will be able to pick up its Wii U counterpart for $1.00 or $1.50, respectively."

It's pretty damn lame that you have to shell out an extra dollar to play VC games on the GamePad. You can buy a PS1 game on the PS3 and transfer it to your Vita.

This is pretty cool though:
Quote :
"To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo will make one game available on the Wii U eShop every month for $0.30 between now and July. Each NES or SNES game will be available at the discounted price for 30 days."

I'm worried about the new Smash Bros. I guess they expect gamers to use the Wiimote Classic Controller to play it?

I haven't seen anything that implies they expect that. The last Smash Bros. supported every controller configuration possible.

Well if anyone was expecting to Nintendo to turn it around this E3 and blow everyone away you're going to be disappointed. The only surprise game they had in the whole presentation was Donkey Kong Country:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rScdAwgmiG0

They also showed off the new 3D Mario game, which will be great but not as brilliant as the Galaxy games:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwwjcfgTksU&list=PL2JiZAV5BmDU_nJylD2zvyHvgFm9Ot8Nr&index=11a

One other nice surprise was the reveal of Mega Man in Smash Bros:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM9weAXCqxY

Otherwise that was it. No new surprises for 2013. No price drop (desperately needed since the PS4 will be much more powerful for only $50 more), no new promotions like PSN+, etc. People on reddit almost universally agree it was a letdown.

Here some other games they showed off, coming in 2014:

Mario Kart 8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA6CAgv6p6g&list=PL2JiZAV5BmDU_nJylD2zvyHvgFm9Ot8Nr&index=12

Bayonetta 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dFfVBdRWmw&list=PL2JiZAV5BmDU_nJylD2zvyHvgFm9Ot8Nr&index=24

Oh and check out this 3rd party reel, it's almost laughable how short it is in comparison to Sony's show:
