Having only seen commercials for The Shield, I can second the impression that it isn't "all that different from your standard issue crime procedural." 1/9/2013 4:10:45 PM |

overall, it has a different feel though. I'd say it's a mix between something like The Wire and the standard crime procedural.
I don't disagree with the first impression. That's probably the main reason it's taken me so long to finally watch it. 1/9/2013 4:28:34 PM |

I thought the ending to both of these seasons were fantastic, although I'll give more credit to The Shield in that matter. Both are worth watching for sure. I will say that I like The Wire better overall...a lot more depth, but The Shield stressed you the fuck out more consistently. I felt more involved in The Shield than The Wire. 1/18/2013 9:49:29 PM |

So just got done watching the Corner and apparently Lamar (Mouzone's errand boy) was played by Deandre Mccullough who was the inspiration for the show. Also Deandre's mother is married to the guy who inspired Omar 2/27/2013 10:10:13 PM |

The Corner is only 6 episodes, and its pretty fucking depressing
i havent watched it since it originally aired though, wonder how many other The Wire actors were in it, considering it was basically written by the same people 2/27/2013 10:16:24 PM |

Best I can tell, at least 35 of them had named/speaking parts in both. Maybe only a couple lines in an episode, but much more than an extra. 2/28/2013 1:01:18 AM |

Just finished the first season. Good shit. Pretty slow...but good slow.
Surprised my wife kept watching, as she usually needs a little more action. But I'm worried because I've heard the 2nd and 3rd seasons are considered the worst out of the whole series. Will it be able to keep her attention? 8/4/2014 4:28:59 PM |

^^ season 3 is probably the single greatest season of television next to season 4. season 2 is great. it's just kind of a departure from the street level drug trade that you see in every other season. and it's important since it sets up events in seasons 4 and 5 8/4/2014 5:05:50 PM |

Season 5 is the worst of the series but still in the top 95% of all tv of all time. Season 3 is definitely the best.

I binged all of the seasons a month or two ago, unbelievably good. Season 2 was very good, but it is just such a departure from what you'd expect after finishing season 1. 3 and 4 are right up there with season 1 and while season 5 is probably "the worst season" it is still very good - just not up to the level of the previous 4 seasons. 8/5/2014 12:15:06 AM |

Watched the final episode last night...always bittersweet when you finish a great series like this.
Loved season 2. I live in a port city...so I now I always wonder if there are any hookers and blow whenever I see a container ship coming in.
Season 1 was probably the least enjoyable, but I can't rank it low because I know it really had to establish everything so the rest of the seasons could build off of it.
Season 5 was the worst just because of that ridiculous fake serial killer story they came up with. I think it's a testament to the writers that they were able to make such a solid season with that story line...but I think they could have come up with something different to center the Newspaper/Marlow storyline around.
Season 4 with the kids might have been the best. Really enjoyed (and was saddened) how they tied in these kids growing up to the end of Season 5 where they just showed that it was all a vicious cycle.
I knew going in that it was going to be a somber ending...but two things I was really hoping for didn't happen: (1) really wanted that reporter to get shitted on somehow...he became my least favorite character and (2) wanted Avon to kill Marlow in jail.
Other thoughts and observations:
- I think I took Bodie's death the hardest. He was one of my favorites...but he was about to start snitching...so he had what was coming. At least he went out blazing.
- I didn't dislike Marlow...I just liked the people he was going against better (Omar, Barksdale, and ultimately Michael).
- Is everyone with me in that Michael is becoming Omar (vigilante-like in that he'll be robbing drug dealers as a solo-badass) and that Duquan is becoming Bubbles (crackhead that is generally a very likeable person)?
- I wanted to see Cutty fuck up a drug dealer or someone bad...like Snoop or Monk.
- I wanted more of Wee-bay...he's thick accent was wasted in small prison scenes. His baby momma was also a gigantacunt.
- I knew in my head that Omar was going to go down in a small manner like that...but it still hurt. In a perfect world he would have taken out Marlow in a one-on-one streetfight and retired down in the Carribean with his latin loverboy.
That's all for right now. What a great show. 4/27/2015 4:03:02 PM |

I too just recently watched the series. I liked them all.
I agree with everything you said.
I was hoping they would be able to do another season investigating the shady side of lawyers (it seemed like they were setting this up for a little bit).
I liked how they showed that it is hard to break the social cycles (carcetti fell into the politician cycle, the police force never focusing just on "police" work, kids leaving the drug trade). I know they wanted to do a gritty, real life show, but damn it would have been nice to have some happier endings. Greggs could have made her family work, daniels could have stayed police commish and made a difference, Carcetti could have done the right thing to improve Baltimore instead of only looking at the governorship. I guess I am a sucker for happy endings, but this show was frustrating in that everything always went to hell (same overall plotline every season, oh we are making big progress on major drug trade, fuck it we can't spend any more money or politics is getting in the way). 4/27/2015 4:31:46 PM |

I mean...some things kinda worked out.
- Bubbles got to have dinner with his sister at the family table
- McNulty worked things out with Beadie
- Neyman seems to be doing well in school and is on the debate team
Obviously not the happiest of endings...but at least some things worked out!! 4/27/2015 5:19:56 PM |

daniels WAS happy ending, just not some unrealistic storybook happy ending. as for carcetti, when have you know a politician to do what is "right" over what is politically viable? again, not a fairy tale. you just say many of the characters had "happy" endings, just maybe they didnt realize all their ambitious hopes and dreams, and how many of us do?4/27/2015 7:23:41 PM |

had/got...whatever, I was typing fast.
I thought there might have been a chace that Daniels could have stayed commish. I mean...he really held the trump card in knowing about the fake serial killer and the mayor wanting to keep it quiet. All he had to do was tape a conversation with one of them about it and he could have done whatever the fuck he wanted (IMO, of course).
But that wouldn't have fit into the narrative, so I'm okay with it. 4/27/2015 7:28:25 PM |

Started watching this on Amazon for the first time. Another HBO show I'm just now watching.
I like it. I'm a little less than halfway through the first season. I feel like the main characters, with the exception of the obvious ones, want to do good police work but can't due to their surrounding/red tape, etc, but they don't go against it, don't act like heroes like you would generally see in these kinds of cop dramas. To me that makes it seem more realistic. 6/28/2017 9:46:28 PM |

I was a very late comer to this show, and probably never would have seen it were it not a fixture on the "morale drive" in Peace Corps, but God, do I love it. I just left Baltimore after living there for a year and am watching it again. It really makes me miss that city. It's funny how it has that effect, even though the portrayal of Baltimore isn't really what you'd call positive. And as far I as I could tell the actual Baltimoreans ate that shit up. "Carcetti for Mayor" bumper stickers, Omar stuff everywhere. 6/29/2017 1:40:51 PM |

Thats because it is an accurate portrayal of Body-more. Unfortunately, Baltimoreans are too stupid to realize it, and take pride in it.

Series ended 10 years ago but I finally just watched it over the past few months. Outstanding. Other than some of the outdated technology, it seems just as relevant today as ever.
I thought season 4 was the best. It's very eye opening and heart breaking to see how trapped a lot of those kids are . I might have cried a time or two. 3/26/2018 2:01:03 PM |
