I don't know why I've never noticed this...

I have tried to strategically chose my shots. Like aiming for the drive wheel to take out a track, or under the turret in the collar (ie: KV) where there is little/no armor protecting the inside. I really try to wait until my accuracy reticle is at a minimum, if not at least until the target is fully enclosed by the circle. But by far the biggest thing is that I've had to learn a lot about my enemies tanks and their variations.

I've also seen how crew experience hinders me against some of my opponents. There's a noticeable difference between a tank with all 50% newbie crew and 63% crew. I read up on it in the wiki and I'm really going to strive to get my crews up past 85% in the T-46 and PzKpfw III Ausf. A so my tanks' performance can really shine! I love playing SPG and TD, but have just stareted playing in those rolls. Right now I have Wespe and a Marder II. I'm really looking forward to playing in the Hummel and StuG III, though I fear it will take me forever to reach the Hummel

So what do you all mostly play with? I'd be interested in playing in a platoon with you fellas. I've got a >50% win rate, though I only survive about 25% of the matches I'm a team player

Not really, but if you add us to your contacts individually, we can platoon in teams of 2 (or 3 if anyone is paying for premium) and go into battles together. In order to be competitive in clan wars, you pretty much need a full team of Tier 10 tanks, so anything less is pretty much futile other than just being a sort of social group.

Out of these tanks, I think my favorites would have to be the Russian Heavy line, as the KV is an excellent all-around tank with the 107mm gun and absolutely murders when top tier, the KV3 bounces an absurd amount of incoming fire, albiet while being relatively slow, and the IS is... well, it's ok, but it's a stepping stone to the IS3, IS4, and IS7 which are all excellent tanks.

I had changed my reticle before my very first game so I did not get to enjoy this function. I changed it back though. Also, T-46 + 75mm cannon + HE rounds is the shit when most of the enemy is in a tier 4 or smaller tanks. If I see myself coming up on a heavier target, I switch to AP. Pretty baller when you shoot and kill the crew, leaving the tank in tact!

Oh, and I'm loving the TD class. I've got a Hetzer with the 105. GOD I love sniping with that thing. Well.. Sniping up to about 350m away. I call it my one-hit-wonder. Definitely going to keep that. ~5k XP away from getting the Grille via Wespe (I hate this SPG). After I get the Grille researched, I'm going to sell the Wespe and get a Sugg III. Also LOVE my T-18. Just picked up a T-40, hoping to work my way up into the Slugger. Still rocking the T-46 from time to time as well... Sucks only having 5 slots :/

Should we also include what tanks we often run with? Give others an idea of what we have available and that way if we see each other on, we don't have to keep asking "What do you have?" if/when you want to platoon up. I've put an * next to tanks I enjoy playing and have leveled up. No MT or HT yet, I much prefer the sniping/support roll.

I'm still grinding for my T3 light tank. The thing that kills me (which I'm assuming isn't a problem when you're playing with people at higher levels) is that people are idiots. They won't cover you, they'll haphazardly storm right into an ambush.

Hah, you'd be surprised - the idiots in low tier matches earn xp too, and end up being top tier idiots

Fortunately, you find some decent players every so often in higher tiers, but don't get too excited. Another difference though is that tanks become more specialized as you move up, so you'll start finding tanks that are good for your playstyle rather than just peashooting tin cans like every entry level tank.

Like the one map with the big ass lake in the middle. Pregame will be like 'Okay, light tanks around the lake, big tanks defense' and everyone says 'ok'...timer ticks down....light tanks charge into the open field.

^ Yep, Malinovka - the bane of all reasonable tankers. You'll see as you move up that the key strategy there is to hold a solid defense at your base along the field, and the map is won or lost by who can control the furthest northeast hill, as it gives a great view over the battlefield, is difficult to climb and retake when someone's already taken it and is firing down, and from there its a straight shot downhill to either base.

what the hell. In my t-46, I was thrown in to 3 back to back to back matches with Tier 5, 6, and 7 HT. I was the only Tier 3 LT on my team in all three matches. There were a couple tier 4 in each match, but still. WTF. MM is quite goofy sometimes, IMO.

Also, I hate the wespe so much now, i've been running it like a TD and having better luck. Go figure.

Yea I got the 107 recently and last week I topped out the KV with the best radio and biggest engine. Made it a bit easier to get around and find the enemy but I love that big ass gun. Yesterday I was in a round on Prokhorovka (road on one side, rail on the other) where I was the top tank and I had two other KVs with me, but they were mounting the base guns. I took most of the team up the road on the left flank, but one KV went right with a couple light/meds. I saw the enemy swarm on that side bad, so I cut across the map and told the guys on the left to rush their base. My guys on the right flank got obliterated before I could get there, so I sat in a lowspot near our flag and waited for the enemy to come over the rail. They probably shot over 50 rounds at me, and I got hit 20+ times, but they only took about 10% of my health. Meanwhile I massacred them. I had like 8 kills. When it was over, there was just a wall of tanks on that hill that had fallen to my 107. That was fucking awesome, and I even had the guys from the other team going "Holy shit that was amazing!" Great round.

Also the SU-85 has gotten a lot more fun. I just got the 107mm, same as the KV is sporting. Its not quite as mobile as the KV on the frontline, but its a lot easier to hide with and is faster getting to a location. And the damn thing can snipe just as good and will rape up even on the higher tier guys. These two have quickly become my favorites.

Just picked up a Pershing and it's strangely addicting - MUCH better armor than the T20, a better penetrating gun, and a ton of HP makes for a fun little tank. I've found I can bounce certain shots (including an IS4 to the face!) if I really try and hide behind my gun mantle, and if I can avoid facehugging and just pick away at people from covered positions off to the flank, it's really fun. Even for a tier 8, I'm able to average a good 15k profit per round when things go favorably, and I still mostly break even on bad rounds.

Sold the KV3 for it, which I'm now realizing was a stupid idea as I'll need the KV3 to get the bonus tank/slot at that upcoming update that splits the Russian tree. Crap. Looks like I'll be rebuying a tank soon!

I blew a hole right through this tank! I thought that was pretty awesome damage implementation the developers included.



Finally got my StuG III crew up to 100%, with each doing a secondary skill set in camo. It's VERY fun sniping in the StuG III, and just about 85% of the matches I'm in I have fun with. Seldom do I mess with Tier 8 tanks.

^ Yup! Took the day off to go with the wife. I know quite a few people are going to caravan together, however, we're just going to go by ourselves to keep it simple.

oh and, here are my settings... I don't know what gives you the distance. It only works when you target a friendly or enemy. For a rough estimate, the lines on the grid/map are separated by about 100 meters, diagonally about 140 meters. It's a good thing to know when you want to be able to see into an area and you know your LOS (line of sight) distance. Little trick I kinda taught myself.

Talk about luckiest shot in the world. I didn't really think I would get the kill, but with 97% crew + vents, I figured I'd take the shot anyways. I was so excited I almost forget to get the screenshot. lol. I wouldn't believe anyone if they told me they got a hit, let alone a kill, at 596 meters with the 105 in a Hetzer, but odds aren't impossible.

Hey do ya'll know the "secret" way to see where you are aiming? If you hit Caps Lock and 0 at the same time while in game, it will show you exactly where the server sees you aiming. Not sure how useful it is, but did find out about that today.

Also FYI they are having a half off special on some of the heavies this weekend. I just hit the necessary XP but only have 150k in cash. Thought it would be a while before I could afford one, but looks like I was wrong. Woot!

^^Just read my post. I typed that on my iPod while playing WoT. What I meant to say was I have been rolling on my KV and just got the XP necessary to unlock the KV-3. Was super pumped that I had the ability to research it, but was damn depressed when I saw my cash was only at 150k, and I needed 1mil+.

So yea now I can KV-3 for 536k. I have built up to about 255k this evening and will absolutely blow through it tomorrow as well. Big problem for me is I am on the road from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening, so whatever cash I don't scrounge up, I am going to have to raise by selling tanks. Got several tier 4 tanks (Stuart, Lee, etc.) that are damn near stock, so I can get about 100k for each of them. I do not think it will be any problem to have the KV-3 by Sunday evening. Fucking pumped about that, esp. because of the future update giving me a new slot and tank for my KV and my KV-3. w00t

Well this sucks. I accidentally sold my KV3 to pay for my Pershing, so I've been grinding to get the ~$1Mil back to re-purchase the KV-3 and have it ready to give me a free slot whenever that update rolls around, and sure enough, I earned the $1Mil and purchased that KV-3 not more than two days ago

Well crap. And there's not even a sale on the IS3, which is what I'll be buying soon.

I suppose it's somewhat compensated for by how fun the Pershing is, so I'll just keep grinding and hope for more favorable deal timing in the future.

I caved and went on and sold a couple of my American/French tier IV tanks that I didn't give a shit about and bought my KV-3. w00t. Now, what gun do you usually sport on this thing jcdomini? I am about to get the 107 like my KV and SU-86 have already, but not sure what to think of the guns after that.

Damn. I need to grind faster. I've got 1.2mil cash, waiting to buy something (I'm short on XP on my lead tanks). I'm grinding the Jagdpanzer IV to get to the Jagdpanther because I'm trying to get to the Ferdinand. Also Grinding the Grille to get a Hummel. MM keeps throwing me in games where my team is 5-15 on kills, and I'm the one getting 2 or 3 of those 5 kills. FML. Still rock the StuGIII from time to time to lift my spirits a little. Hetzer is not as fun as it used to be. :/ I'm also waiting for the Slugger to go on sale because that's a lot of money I could save. Otherwise, grind grind grind... :/

Oh, and the T2 LT is pretty fun, for the first 5 minutes. Now I'm ready to get rid of that POS.

^Yea they really need a messaging system more like Steam. I have tried to message several people at times and they never see it because it hides that shit in the bottom. For the KV-3, the 107mm is an excellent start. You'll find that frontally, you'll bounce quite a bit of Tier 6-7 and below, and sometimes even higher tiers. Your sides can still be a bit tender however, and so can your rear, and your maneuverability is pretty low, so just keep your wits about you to ensure you don't get flanked and toasted. I'd also suggest moving to the upgraded turret quickly, as it's a good improvement and adds some HP.

Once you get comfortable with the tank and how best to use it, go for the 122mm - it packs a huge punch, but at the cost of accuracy, as well as a whopping 1,000 credits per shell. However, it preps you well for the IS, and is also compatible with the IS for when you upgrade again. It definitely strikes fear into the enemy however (the muzzle brake is pretty identifying), and between the 122mm and the armor of the KV-3, you'll quickly learn why it's being bumped up a tier.

As for the crap chat interface.... Absolutely hate how it's really just by chance that you might catch someone's message. Oh well, hopefully they'll fix it eventually.

Bought the kv. Going to grind tonight to get the KV3 on sale. About 16k xp away from JagPanzer. I'm waiting for the Slugger to go on sale before I buy. Also 28k XP away from Hummel, but from the looks of it, I'll never play it as I don't have fun with artillery like I once did.

^ Not sure if this is any motivation to continue on the Grille, but the Hummel will give you exceptional speed and mobility, plenty of range, and much better gun traverse without having to move the tracks. The GWPanther is better still for gun traverse and power, but a bit slower. I have the same reservations on arty too, in that its not as fun anymore when compared to tossing around a medium, but it can still be fun to run arty for a little bit of laid back combat. With that in mind, I'd suggest selling the hummel for the slot and cash if you don't think you'll need it again, as that couldn't hurt to have on hand.
