i've never heard so much trash talk from a team that's gone 0-4 in the last four years. talking shit about superior academics when your team is in the midst of academic violations? please. and saying that the game means more to our players these past years just shows that you didn't properly prepare for a rivalry game.

granted i'm not very optimistic about saturday, but i wasn't really the past four years either. i hope we come out disciplined and punch them in mouth (figuratively)

UNC is only a half notch below FSU this year so the only real difference is that this game is at home and its a rivalry game.

I think the fact that they owe us an ass whipping cancels out the rivalry factor.

Why do people care about graduation rates?

The only people who should are the parents that are paying for the education. "Durrr, if my kid goes to UNC and majors in Psychology he has a 98.6872% chance of graduating on time! If he goes to NC State and majors in Mechanical Engineering he only has a 52% chance of graduating on time. Durrrr."

So dumb. What is more important is the actual academic rating for the majors at the schools (yes, I realize UNC is rated higher, but it's not nearly like what people think).

^ call me crazy, but i care. as an alum, i'd like to see that our students and athletes graduate. i mean, hell, if we're going to suck at all our sports, at least our athletes can get degrees and be solid contributing members to society. and i hear you about MechE being more difficult that degrees at unc, but 52% grad rate is shit and it's not like all our athletes are pushing themselves to study CSC.

that being said, it's amazingly brazen for UNC's coach to talk shit about this, seeing as how he's been a prominent member of the staff over their the last few years while players were blatantly cheating. what a dumbass, i hope we stomp the shit out of them.

I would expect UNC to have a higher graduation rate when you look at their grade distribution. When you give out A' and B's like it is candy, you will graduate more people (or, when you have tutors doing homework for example).

As stated before, a lot of classes at UNC are very liberal (no pun intended) with their grade distribution. I know there ARE good professors, good classes and maybe even good departments over there, but there are certainly others which have fallen into the trap of massive grade inflation and handing out those A's and B's. That hurts their academic reputation in the long run. I'd rather send my kid to a school where I know that he will be challenged academically, and end up with a degree that will get him somewhere in life and not just a cannon fodder degree like half of the other Wal-Mart employees have.

I know this because I majored in English at State, which is largely a useless degree unless you go into teaching or writing, but at least I know that I will use it and I got it from a reputable department and the only institution in the area that offers it at the MFA level.

Anyway. Two more days to go!
