It's probably a good thing. Samberg has been coasting for going on two years, and the show often props up weak episodes on the fact that Wiig and Sudeikis will always bring it, even to underwritten sketches.

The departure of great utility players (Wiig, Hartman, Hammond, etc.) often forces the strangest and best work out of previously underutilized cast members.

I think it was pretty obvious that they are leaving too. there's a reason Samberg did Lazy Sunday 2 and Sudeikis was visibly emotional during that final sketch

the graduation thing had more to do with Lorne loving Wiig more than any other recent cast member

because the first Lazy Sunday was the one that made Digital Shorts a thing/transcendent and it was a perfect bookend to his SNL career

and Sudeikis was far more emotional than anyone else on stage

Bridesmaids put Wiig into the next level

and even before that, Lorne was on the record saying Wiig is the most talented castmember they've ever had

and they don't tend to reveal who's leaving during the season finale, only Lorne's favorites get that treatment

Sudeikis had a "holy fuck I'm going to miss this" look on his face during the entire final sketch
