As a fan you should want your team playing the best opponent and your athletic department getting the bigger payout. You can go get drunk at any bar in any city.

so is anyone actually ordering tickets or are you waiting to purchase at the game for cheaper and possibly better tickets?

If I were actually going to the bowl, I would prefer Nashville. But I'm going to be out of the country, so I just want to play the best team possible. Who knows, maybe if we crush whoever we play we can sneak into the top-25??

I'd just assume you were trolling, if your astounding lack of knowledge wasn't already well documented.

Ha, back on Halloween, some espn folks were predicting us and Mississippi St in Nashville.

the acc splits bowl payouts so this point is moot. i want to play in nashville against an sec team.

we will be playing pitt fairly consistently in the next few years, we already played cincy, we beat wvu last year, and i quite frankly don't care about playing louisville, rutgers, or any other big east team.

^^ look at it this way. if all the ACC bowls are filled and we don't go to a bowl we get ~2.5 mil. if we go to a bowl we get ~2.5 mil. that is adding all the payouts up. Orange Bowl pays 17 mil. Just think if we could get a Orange Bowl and a NC game (18 mil).

so sharing is not that bad. I'd look to play in a nice city with a good opponent. Nobody wants to go to El Paso, TX or Mobile, AL.

Would kill for us to play in the Music City. But we're definitely headed to the department store bowl.

The only hitch I can see in getting to the Belk Bowl is that, while our fans will definitely fill the stadium, our fans won't really have much need (or want) to travel to Charlotte and spend a few days in the area.

It's a small knock against, the Bowl will likely make it's money back at the stadium anyway and not be too worried about the surrounding businesses.

I could see the Independence Bowl hoping our fans would fill up Shreveport for a few days. I can't see them looking at Wake or UNC with much glee. UNC fans will travel to Charlotte but I don't see many of them giving up their holidays for a trip to Louisiana. Wake simply doesn't have the fanbase to fill a seat allotment that far from NC.

This is how I pretty much see things shaking out:

Orange - Clemson/VT
Chik-fil-a - Clemson/VT
Champs - FSU
Sun - GT
Belk - NCSU
Music City - UVA
Independence - WF
Military - UNC

There is pretty much no way UNC can go to any other bowl except the Military Bowl unless all of this talk about the Belk Bowl wanting us is lies. They can't be picked in front of any other team except us, because of their shitty conference record.

+1 for belk.

i'd rather not drive an extra half day into tennessee and be a part of the instant replay curse going on down there.

^^I believe they can be picked ahead of us, because their ACC record (3-5) is within one game of our ACC record (4-4). IIRC, conference records have to be seperated by 2 or more games to prevent "skipping."

\/ yeah, I gotcha, I just meant in general, the way the rules are written. I see what ^^meant now, my bad.

I think that only applies if we fall to the 7th choice. If a bowl that could pick a 5-3 team is looking at NCSU I don't think they could also be looking at UNC.

The only two bowls even possible for UNC are the Independence Bowl and Military Bowl.
We COULD be picked ahead of every team sans Clemson and VT.

I say that we create a bowl game in Raleigh for us to play at. We can just stop by on the way home, pick up some Bojangles, hit up East Village after the game, be home by 9. Who wants to travel for a bowl game?

They're Baptists? Who have a possessed deacon as their mascot? And despite being called "Wake Forest", they're located in crappy Winston-Salem (i know the history of this)

Winston-Salem essentially bought Wake Forest and moved it to their town. Part of the agreement from the Wake Forest people was to keep the name, as dumb as it seems now. I'm assuming Winston would have renamed it Reynolda College or something along those lines (because it was basically bought with RJ Reynolds Tobacco $$)

Anyway, Winston-Salem isn't a crappy place .... maybe it used to be 10 years ago, but it's a pretty good place to be now. Maybe I'm biased because I live here, but I've got no complaints.

[Edited on November 28, 2011 at 3:40 PM. Reason : and for the record, I don't hate Wake, though their fratastic students can get obnoxious at the bars]

I lived there during the weekdays for a few months, and found it to be a crappy place, but that was 6 or 7 years ago, and i didn't know anyone or anything to do. and i don't hate wake as much as some apparently do, especially in basketball.

the city of winston-salem did not buy wake forest university, the RJ Reynolds family did.

Winston-Salem city leaders (aka the Reynolds) bought Wake Forest for $10 million using funds from a special foundation. But about 1/3 of the costs for building the school (or around $2 million) was publicly funded. So while the Reynolds bought it, the town helped build it.

Getting way off topic here...

They're traditionally Baptist, but they've disassociated themselves with the SBC.

I don't quite get why they felt a deacon should be a demon, but it was made up by college students so who knows what they were getting up to.

They also have WFU in the Military Bowl, which is utterly impossible because of rules mentioned dozens of times already in this thread.

Hard Rock Cafe isn't even a bar really. Yes, they have a bar, but who actually goes to a HRC to drink?

Tons of bars downtown in Nashville (real bars, not like restaurants that happen to have bars). I don't know which ones would be considered touristy but they all have wannabe country singers in them which is why I don't like them.

But if that's the kind of place you like - girls wearing cowboy hats and boots, broken peanut shells covering the wooden floors, too loud country music and drink menus consisting of about 12 domestics, one or two microbrews and ten flavors of Jack Daniels - then you certainly have a lot of places to choose from.

As for me, I prefer a more upscale place with a good beer menu (Village Draft House in Raleigh is my favorite for this reason, but it's not really a "bar") and a decent bartender who can do a whiskey sour without pushing a button on a soda dispenser.
