I think the key to this game will be Brown vs. Marshall. Since UNC doesn't have a backup PG, our gameplan needs to be to wear Marshall out.. I don't think he has the foot-speed or stanima to stay in front of Zo and Alex Johnson all game.

UNC will lock down on Wood. Howell and Leslie will be negated by Henson's side show freak arms and Zellers ability to make the slightest nudge look like a Pacquiao ko. CJW and Zo will have to do a lot of work to keep up with scoring and find ways to get wood free.

I don't see a dancing w but there are a few things that could go our way for a win (Howell breaking pressure and getting Henson in foul trouble, CJW getting hot from 3, etc). Bench play will be far more important in this game as our starting 5 won't be able to pull away like they have in previous games.

UNC could fuck up and give us a chance but I'm just not optimistic after 4 years in college.
Just don't want to get crushed and have to bounce back against a really good UVA team.

strickland was their best perimeter defender and if the "black fallolololcon" has to guard him on defense then Wood might be able to get his shot off.

Barnes doesnt seem like a lock down defender to me.

I'll say this much...

in the scrimmages this summer, and yes I know they were just scrimmages, CJW couldnt be contained on his jumper and Brown was getting in the lane all day.

Henson and Zellar shut down Howell and Leslie for the most part, we had howell on zellar i believe and CJL on Henson.

It will be up to CJW and Brown.

ol'dadgummit the bb-gun marksman was talking about possibly playing a lot of zone to keep Marshall rested and out of foul trouble. UNC does NOT play good zone (at least nothing close to Syracuse good). And Zo, CJW and Wood should be able to shoot over it. I also think we run the floor well, but so do they, however, we usually get back on D pretty well.

The biggest mismatch is wood on barnes imo, if you assume that zeller and henson get doubled in the paint. we have a slight mismatch advantage with marshall on zo.

It's not like Barnes is terribly hard to guard. He can't create his own shot off the dribble and relies on Marshall to get him good looks. He's not overly quick either. Wood can just chase him around and force him to put the ball on the floor. He's tall enough that Barnes can't just shoot over him.

I agree that Lorenzo Brown and CJ Williams are going to have to come up big for us to have a chance. I don't see Leslie and Howell doing a whole lot against Henson and Zeller with Henson's wingspan.

^^ haha exactly. Barnes can do whatever the hell he wants to do. You stop Barnes by not letting him drive to far into the paint and having help defense, but the defense will have to rotate correctly so he can't just dump it off to Henson or Zeller for dunks.

Barnes is a great shooter and really athletic, but he's not overly quick and his handle is pretty average. He looks very human -- downright clumsy -- when he puts the ball on the floor and tries to create a shot. Keep constant ball pressure on him and I don't think he kills us. I agree that CJW on Barnes makes a lot of sense, might keep Wood out of foul trouble too.

I don't now if I'd call Barnes "really athletic." He can shoot the shit out of the ball, though.

I'd stick Williams on him because pretty much anyone in the ACC can drive on Wood. And Scott isn't going to be able to block his shots from behind after he gets burned since Barnes is 6'8

That match up doesn't matter all that much, tbh. Whether Barnes can score or not is irrelevant since Howell is going to get destroyed by Henson/Zeller when he's on the floor and when he's not on the floor DeThaey, who gets destroyed by the rim, will be

Basically Zo needs to go for 25-8-5 or we lose

They had a sport science thing on his athleticism a few weeks back. Dude has some serious ups and is an explosive leaper. He's athletic, just not quick.

I really hope Howell and Leslie don't try to force shit against Zeller and Henson. Gonna be a long night if our gameplan is to feed the post.
