Tim Tebow was a highly recruited QB coming out of high school and was a part of two national championship teams. he was also a first round draft pick

Jeremy Lin played PG for Harvard, was undrafted out of college, was cut twice (and nearly a third time by the Knicks a few days before this run)

it is extremely lazy and shortsighted to compare the two

I can't tell if you're being serious or just taking the piss, but in case you were being serious, it's actually "facetious."

If you're just fucking with me, then ignore that.

Tebow: Heisman, 1st Rd pick, doesn't turn the ball over, came out of nowhere to win games and sucks doing it, can't pass, white, hyper-religious

Lin: Undrafted, cut by mulitple teams, turns the ball over a lot, came out of nowhere to win and plays well, can't pass, asian, i've heard him say thanks to God so I guess pretty religious?

that's all i really know off the top of my head. they only have wins, can't pass, and religion in common.

Decent game, not super efficient. Nice shots under pressure, so that means he has the potential to get better.

Getting to the line really saved his efficiency from being total shit. Way too many turnovers

5^ I agree you can't compare the playing history of Lin and Tebow but the amount of media attention Lin is getting is reminiscent of Tebow.

^^dudes averaging 8+ assist per game during this run

My thought on this Linsanity business.

People want to compare him to Steve Nash which is pretty hilarious to me. If you want to say they're both pass-first point guards with great court vision, then OK, but that's about the only valid comparison.

Nash is a 50/43/90 shooter, Lin is 50/25/80 with some free throw practice

But the main reason I hate the comparison and my main knock on Lin and the main reason I'm making this post, is Lin just isn't that good of a passer. Yeah he's probably averaging 8-9 assists the last half dozen games, but have you seen him actually pass the ball? Somebody like Nash or CP3 or Kidd delivers it right to the chest, even on no-looks, jump-passes and other razzle dazzle. Lin kicks it to the perimeter to a shooter who has to jump to catch the pass. He drives and dishes down low to a big who has to bend over to catch a pass.

He knows when to pass it, and who to pass it to, but he needs to work on his range of motion or something.

Quote :
"THIS IS NOTHING LIKE TIM TEBOW

FUCKING STOP WITH THAT COMPARISON
"

actually he does talk with a very similar accent and cadence and he is a hardcore bible thumper...let alone the obvious media hype comparisons...so it is actually a lot like tebowmania

Yeah, assists to perimeter players doesn't really increase shot percentage all that much. Assists to someone down low do. So, not all assists are equal.

The other thing is turnovers are about 5 times more damaging than assists are helpful. So, your assists really do need to be much more than your turnovers before you can be called a good passer.

I think Lin will get there, eventually.

Sometimes I have a moment of existential clarity while I'm getting a bj, but it only lasts a second or two. I climax and think something like "my atoms were forged billions of years ago in supernovae, and they all came together for this point in time where I'm getting my dick sucked by this girl" Then I snap out of it.

Guys relax. He is playing with absolute dogshit for teammates making them win every game. Without lin, melo and amare, this knicks team would be one of the worst in nba history.

The sudden in-season rise to the top is similar to tebow as well.

That was crazy, almost irrational confidence, waving off his teammates for the iso and then taking a 3 off the dribble with no time for a follow-up or tip-in. You gotta wonder if he just woke up 2 weeks ago and decided to show everyone his marbles.

I agree with you...its just that there isn't anyone else's game that his resembles either. So it's just that Nash is probably the closest.

He's not overly athletic (like Nash), but athletic enough to use his craftiness to create space and get off a shot/pass. When every top PG in the NBA (and not even the top ones) is crazy athletic...it's hard to find someone with a similar game. So you move to the first white guy...Nash. But Nash definitely has a better shot and is a better passer.

Turnovers in basketball aren't analogous to interceptions in football, mainly because there are so many possessions in each game. But 8-2-6-8-8 is pretty crippling. The rest of the league will catch up to this cat sooner rather than later.

You can also say that he'll take care of the ball better the more comfortable he becomes in this offense and the more he plays against high level competition.

Most NBA point guards turn the ball over a lot.

The Knicks have played a soft schedule (sans the Lakers) since Lin has been playing these significant minutes. We'll see how much he measures up when they face Dallas, Atlanta and Miami next week.

Since I'm not a NBA expert, let me ask this: are things like Lin's awkward passing and high turnovers something that can be improved over time now that the Knick's machinery is going to start investing real resources into developing his talent and that he's getting more time on the court, or are these the sort of inherent issues that are going to be difficult to overcome regardless of the additional development he receives? I ask because he's had so little play time, and his basketball career up to this point was with systems that probably didn't do much to develop him as a player.

Its a lot easier to work on the physical aspects of making more accurate passes than it is to try and learn how to see the court throughout the flow of the game. He's got the court vision which you almost can't teach, so he can certainly become a better player.
