great short season recap for those looking to get on the bandwagon:
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20121002&content_id=39356288&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb

still cant believe this team has 92 wins after losing 4 opening day starters (McCarthy, Colon, Braden, Anderson) and pretty much all of our stars from last year.

the only true Cinderella team left in the dance!
(O's cant claim nearly the amount of attrition and contribution from unproven FAs & rookies)

MANAGER OF THE YEAR/DECADE

so that means the o's aren't a "true" cinderella team because they didn't get to where they are the same way as the a's. gotcha.

^hey now, if it cant be the A's - then I am pulling O's all the way.
They are a great cinderella story too, they just don't have the same problems getting national recognition due to the ESPN/northeast media bias.

Really just meant that if Bob Melvin doesn't win MOY, then the award is just another publicity sham (like of like MVP... oh wait).

i don't really watch ESPN very much, so i don't know how much they're talking about the orioles and not talking about the a's. i watched a fair amount of baseball tonight in july and august because i didn't get MLB network where i was living for 3 months, and i didn't really notice the orioles getting noticeably more attention than the a's. if they are, it's probably because they were so bad for 15 years, and everyone has been all "WTF, where is this coming from" all season.

i know the a's were picked to finish last in their division too and have been a huge surprise and i'd like to see them do well, but objectively i can see where people would make a bigger deal over the orioles considering the last decade and a half has been mired by a horrible owner, bumbling GMs, poor free agent signings and draft picks (until recently), several highly touted prospects busting, and all around mismanagement of money and resources. in the same time span, the a's have had several winning seasons, playoff appearances, a book written about them, a movie based on that book, and have influenced the way a lot of front offices approach player acquisition and development. and you're talking about not getting enough national recognition for one season?

to me, it's a recent history of being good vs. a recent history of being really not very good. if the pirates wouldn't have collapsed, more people probably would be talking about them than the a's too. it's not that no one's looking at california because they prefer all teams on the east coast. that's silly.

it has always been a publicity sham. i'm not even saying buck showalter should get it.

With Griffin pitching today, I think the West is ours

seriously thought about canceling both my classes today to go to the game, but I'm going to hold them anyway

oh well, I'll at least get to catch the end of the game.

Yea guess I spoke too soon.

I just can't make sense of why Rangers chose to throw Perez on Monday. It's a lower pressure game at least put someone semi tough out there

because ron washington is not a good manager and can't run a pitching staff for shit. hell, he insisted on batting michael young in the top 6 of the order for an extended period of time when michael young was doing real bad

I'm happy for the A's. they are the hottest team in baseball right now. Their defense needs some work. The silly errors will lose games against tough opponents.

I will post where I want

Nobody did

I didn't actually think they'd have a chance until around July, but even then I thought the best they'd get was a WC2 if they were lucky. After surviving that 10 game road trip and playing so tough against the Yankees, I knew they were for real.

A World Series is totally realistic if they continue playing this well...

oh and, LOL @ face

I don't think the A's are scared of anybody right now

Detroit is probably the last of the AL teams the A's would like to face, but they had to claw their way to win the weak sauce AL Central.

Most teams dont get verlander/fister/scherzer/verlander/fister in a normal series

Look at our record when out 1-3 starts. It's the best in the AL.

[Edited on October 3, 2012 at 9:37 PM. Reason : Porcello blows and fister was hurt half the year]

hey, I'm not thrilled about playing the Tigers. Verlander is an ace.

But seriously, the A's have won like 67/100 games. They are pretty battle tested and not afraid of anything.

It'll be an interesting series, but the A's are too hot to handle.

and let's not talk about injuries OK? we lost all our starting pitchers. we're getting one back btw.

yep DET is the last team we wanted to face... was one of the few teams in the AL that we didn't beat in the regular season. got swept by DET in 2006 when the Big Hurt was mashing us through the playoffs with the last of the moneyball pitching stars.

but at this point, there is no explanation for the A's success "on paper".
games are just not supposed to be playing out like this with the A's roster vs. LAA/TEX/NYY/allstar rosters.
but its happening anyways.
trend maybe?

such confidence

there's a reason the tigers only have 88 wins, despite playing the royals, indians, and twins on a regular basis

i wonder if this series explains why
