I admit I like the look.
However, I need to really go with my gut on this one and completely avoid it. For instance, Shredder is no longer Oroko Saki. Rumor has it that a Japanese company backing the movie did not want an American movie where the bad guy was Japanese. Or so the rumors go.

Most things about the movie are kept under wraps still, so there's no telling what they are really going to do.

Knew before I watched the trailer that this movie was going to be terrible. Nothing about the trailer made me question that the movie is going to be terrible.

No the old movies were good because I was a kid when I saw them, I want to remember them that way so I won't be rewatching any time soon. But no I'm boycotting this if for no other reason than Megan Fox as April.

I give you the first one barely. but it was a mystic dark movie where big ass mutant turtles hung out in a house half the movie. It took itself too seriously. The second movie is ridiculous over the top toy parade with Vanilla Ice dancing. And you know what ? That's exactly what a movie about crime fighting big ass ninja turtles should be about. The Third one? I dont know. something about time travel.

I dont mind a different interpretation of it. it's a comic book movie

wouldn't be surprised if they axed the original plan to have them be aliens after people got pissed about it and made them some kind of human/turtle lab accident, which would also be stupid

They axed the idea that the turtles were aliens, but I believe the ooze they come in contact with will still be extra-terrestrial in nature. They might actually be dealing with Krang or random other-dimensional beings in this one, so I guess that would fit in.

From two friends that saw it, they said the casting choices didn't drag the movie down as much as expected. It was slow starting until the turtles showed up in full-force, though. Turn off your brain and take it for what it is (a fun action kid's movie) and it is a good time.

...so its basically sounds like every Michael Bay movie ever. Accept it as a popcorn flick and its enjoyable. That's not even remotely what I'm looking for in a turtles movie, though, so I'm going to pass. I've seen plenty of Michael Bay movies, and that's not what I wanted this time around.

I caught this last night. I give it a B-. Its better than average, but not by much. It had parts that were really fun (mostly turtle action scenes) and I thought the CGI was great. The real actors were all pretty bad IMO, with moments that were less worse than others when no turtles were around.

Michael Bay did that thing where he really pushed the acceptable limit of action sequences within action sequences leading up to another action sequence. If you are able to just take this movie as a great escape from any sort of reality, and just have fun, it was a fun time. Almost every aspect that was built around the actual Turtles was very well executed - great characters, funny, played off each other banter, and they looked great next to real human characters - special effects/makeup deserve a nod because it was seamless, to me.

yet another example of taking a dark story and dicking it down until it's just some g rated disney pop shit

I don't get it. It is badass karate choppin teenagers that have the form of a turtle that take their orders from a rat, live in the sewars and love to eat pizza. How is this nothing more than popcorn for young kids?

If you can explain the dark side then by all means go ahead.

I am still waiting for this explanation as to the dark and deeper themes that should be portrayed by the ninja turtles.

Deeper topic is family relationships. The old live action TMNT movie used family as a overarching theme for the whole movie. April's Loss, The turtles avenging Splinter, Splinter's relationship with shredder, Danny's relationship with his father, etc.

The darker topic is Raphael. I think his anger and emotion were shown here, but not quiet as highlighted as they were in the old version of the film.

"ZOMG! Giant turtles and karate. That automatically means it should be dumbed down with no deeper themes!"

There were deep themes and topics in the original as Granite pointed out. Why should a remake completely forsake those ideas? I'd also add the foot-clan subplot as a good topic. They were all runaways with family issues lured away by promises of freedom and a grander sense of 'family'. I remember Splinter and Casey Jones's speech regarding what family is at the end fairly well.

This was one of my favs as a kid, someone made a vid from the comic:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhzxvughOBc

Notes: They all have reddish bandanas, dual story lines of the light xmas setup vs Leo training and encountering Foot soldiers, some blood

[Edited on August 13, 2014 at 11:25 PM. Reason : they got the movie scenes from it (but with Raph getting beatup, the farm retreat is the next comic)]

I give it a C+. I enjoyed it more than i thought, it had a few nods to the originals for long time fans, but overall the story was really generic.
