what's a realistic annual maintenance on this car?

This thing looks sweeeet. My car is paid off in a couple of months so thinking about getting something else in the next year or two. I might be willing to suck it up and wait 3-4 years though if these depreciate fast enough...

Got to drive a prototype GTS this past weekend... I could not believe how much of an upgrade it is.

I sat in it for about 15 mins with an SRT engineer before taking off and I was overwhelmed by the how many gadgets and options there were. The drivers seat actually seemed a bit crowded with everything, but then again, I am used to bare-bones. My favorite geeky thing was the 0-60, 1/4 mile, and 1/8 mile timers - which I think almost every sports car has now - but the layout of the digital dash was just sweet. I could see a lot of tickets being issued to the new owners bc the analog speedo is situated to the left and the digital tachometer took center stage (this can prob be adjusted). The seats and interior are just on another level. Everything was extremely well done. I drove a blue&white (of course), but they also had a red and a yellow. That shade of red is unearthly. They do 17 coats of paint for it and it starts in a crazy orange color (sanding it down between each coat).

The drive was very brief and simple (I didn't get to use the launch control). We took off and accelerated for about 100ft and hit the breaks, then did some winding turns, and then a short chicane. It was ridiculously smooth - I didn't punch it on the acceleration just for fear of the engineer beside me getting upset, but the power is definitely there. The clutch was very light and shifting was quick and easy. I prefer a bit firmer clutch and the SRT engineer showed me after the drive how to adjust it. We didn't even go into the customizable suspension and other various driving options (track, sport, launch, etc.).

It is oddly refined and very different from the Vipers of the past. Which is both awesome & bad IMO. We even got a peak at the vert that is going to be announced. Unless Chevy does something drastic, this is going to be THE ULTIMATE American car for the next few years.

We also got to see the GTSR that is in the LMS and that thing is RIDICULOUS. Looks even better than the production car. One of the drivers took me out for a spin (very literally) in a new Charger, those guys can control a car.

It was strictly put on by the Viper Club of America with help from the SRT division of Chrysler. There weren't any other clubs/vendors/etc involved or pushing their stuff. We got private use of Charlotte Motor Speedway, ZMaxx Dragstrip, 2 autocross courses, go karts, and a few other test drive areas for a few days. Nice dinners, open bars, and all that jazz

this explains it...

We saw 6 Vipers on I40 between Black Mountain and Raleigh sunday. Seeing as how I've maybe seen 2 in my life up to this point, I thought that was kinda odd.

I saw plenty of twin turbos (one of our Carolina members has 2 that he brought with him), but none specifically from the Underground team. There were an estimated 400-600 Vipers there, so there is a good chance I didn't see everything

Did not see it, although the one guy I mentioned above has mine with twin turbos (~1000hp) and a red one with twin turbos (1650hp) that does have a parachute. Runs in the 9s, but trying to get down to 8.

I didn't even drag mine, it's just not that interesting to me. Autocross was surprisingly fun, running the road course + oval was scary as shit, beating the shit out of the new SRT lineup was awesome, and go karts... well, who the fuck can't grin at driving high speed go karts inside of Charlotte Motor Speedway?!

had a th400 in it... my thought is at that point... why stay irs? you allready fucked up any turning track ability with the tranny so i'd assume there is a dana 60 or a 9" out back.

lol dude you have to admit the th400 is one of the best drag transmissions ever made...

i mean i hate chevy's and even i smile when someone says th400 instead of

glide... glide... glide... glide.... glide....

I mean the c4 isn't bad built for 1000hp but the th400 can be built for twice that.
and it's still relatively light. (compared to the 47rh)

true; I'll say my eyes have been opened to the world of drag-racing transmissions in the past few years...auto transmissions with manual clutches, converter design, etc.

What's so scary about the road course? Where you driving your own car or SRT vehicles? How fast they let you go?

its not the road course as it is the retardly banked oval.

Have you ever stood on a nascar track? because it looks like its got a 20* bank but it feels like 45* when your standing on it and 60* when you try to climb straight up it.

I did the driving experience on it and i'll tell you this,

If you go too slow you feel like you're going to slide down into the infield.

When you do it just right you feel like you're going to hit the wall (like no doubt in your mind that the car cannot make the turn) then the bank grabs you and pulls it around...

i hate nascar but after doing that... you gain a respect for it... i only got up to 185 on clt and was shitting bricks coming into every turn..

I still won't watch it but... it's not just "driving in circles" and depending where he came onto the oval... that pitch change can really unsettle a car too.

I drove Indy at 160 around those banks and it was nothing. Maybe a difference in vehicles caused that.

Indy has very shallow banking, much less than CMS or DMS for instance.

Considering I've done an HPDE at Charlotte Motor Speedway...yes, yes I know what that exact track is like to drive on

Exactly. I drove my own car and I just felt that at any point I was going to fly up into the wall. You could go as fast as you had the balls to go, I got up to ~125-130 (on the straightaway - stopped glancing down once I approached the bank). Other guys in my group claimed 150-160. My friend in a SRT Jeep got up to 122 . I would have gone faster if it wasn't my vehicle - the force of the turn just felt like it wanted to send me into the wall and I just got the car paid off We tried to go back later and drive other SRT vehicles that they had there, but they started restricting them to people that did not bring their Vipers, so I was SOL. They did have demo cars to do a small acceleration and braking course with, we beat the hell out of those. There were 2 Viper wrecks that I heard about, 1 on the road course and 1 on the drag strip. I only saw pics of the road course wreck and he scraped a wall, nothing terrible

^^ i saw underground racing doing an event at the drag strip and half the asshats were out there with 20" HRE wheels and low pro tires roasting them running 11 sec 1/4 miles @ 140something (1000hp +manual + no tire prep/suspension prep = epic fail of gel haired douche canoe)

it looked like vipers on ice. until they got to 4th.

Top Gear BBC guys apparently have one and were sighted in Mexico & Las Vegas.

Quote :
"As the upcoming British Entertainment show of Top Gear UK Season 19 is coming on February 2013. A new photo image shows what Top Gear UK of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond were up to, shows an image of the new epic supercar road trip challenge across USA, with the cars they drive were 2013 SRT Viper, 2013 Aston Martin Vanquish and a yellow Lexus LFA in a parking lot with the Top Gear cameramen crews and their Range Rover.

The blue 2013 Aston Martin Vanquish is driven by Jeremy Clarkson.
The yellow Lexus LFA is driven by James May.
The black 2013 SRT Viper is driven by Richard Hammond.

?Recently that Jeremy Clarkson on Twitter comments from Monday says "People of America. Later today, @thehamsterscage, @MrJamesMay and I will arrive in your country to make some noises." Then on November 7th 2012, Clarkson tweeted, "We will be in Mexico next week."

Expect for the new Top Gear UK Season 19 will began to air on February 2013."
