I'm pretty sure I "compared" it to marriage. 5/15/2012 11:31:28 AM |

Quote : | ""if some states have civil unions, why do gay people care about being "married"?"" |
Because some gay people are religious and want to have their own religious beliefs respected on the same level of everyone else's, and anti-gay religions did not invent nor do they own the concept of "marriage." Further, the attempt to ever-ensure that gays don't have *quite* the same thing as straights is a matter of principle to the anti-gay religious folks, they can't sleep at night unless they know they are somehow one peg above the dreaded gays.

I consider marriage at least one peg below sweet, sweet freedom.

Oh, and there are also the conservatives that truthfully don't care about gays one way or the other but remain anti-gay anyway because of a tit-for-tat mindset, that any "victory" for gays constitutes a "victory" for liberals and thus must be somehow wrong and bad. 5/15/2012 4:08:14 PM |
