I said that when he was at Wisconsin last year. RW was pretty fast his freshman year, but I think that knee injury during the Rutgers game slowed him down a lot his sophomore year. He was getting caught regularly by DL.
He picked it up his junior year, but he looked like he had an extra gear at Wisconsin.8/13/2012 9:57:11 AM |

^Sweezy is 64, I believe. It's not in the shorter clip posted at the top of this page, it was in the link I posted on the previous page (lower quality but a little extra footage). Sweezy comes in at the 0:54 mark.

I am not some random person. The NFL, as you will learn, is a complicated business. When listing where a player went to college the best one can do to weed through the complications is list where they were when they were drafted. Thats all I'm saying. 8/19/2012 1:07:24 PM |

RW to start vs KC
Quote : | "Earlier this week, Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times argued that if the Seattle Seahawks were, in fact, running an open competition for the starting QB job, then rookie Russell Wilson needed to get an extended look with the first-team in a game. To this point, Matt Flynn has been the man for that task, with Wilson coming in afterwards (and taking on the opponents' backups). Well, it looks like Wilson may get his shot this weekend.
"After Wilson led three touchdown drives Saturday in Denver -- passing for two of those scores himself -- [Seahawks HC Pete] Carroll declined to say whether Wilson would get a chance to play with -- and against -- the starters," O'Neil writes. "He again deferred on naming a starter Monday during his weekly radio appearance on ESPN 710 Seattle. But after the players concluded meetings on Monday, there were multiple indications Wilson is going to start the third exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday."
On Tuesday afternoon, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that indeed, Wilson will get the start.
Typically, the third preseason game is akin to a dress rehearsal for the regular season opener, with starters playing well into the third quarter. The fact that Wilson is getting the nod here over Flynn would be an indication that there is a real chance for him to win the job. On the other hand, are the Seahawks making a mistake by not allowing Flynn the opportunity for extra reps? " |
Quote : | "Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson has earned his first start in the team's third preseason game and a strong performance could elevate him into a starting role for the 2012 regular-season opener, team sources said Tuesday.
NFC West Blog ESPN.com's Mike Sando writes about all things NFC West in his division blog.
• Network: NFL Nation Seahawks coach Pete Carroll on Monday informed the quarterbacks, including Matt Flynn, the free agent pickup who had started the team's first two preseason games. Carroll is expected to make the news official Tuesday.
Wilson will take the majority of first-team reps as the Seahawks prepare for the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night. Carroll plans to play Wilson with the Seahawks' starters through at least the first half. It is possible Flynn could get some first-team reps to start the second half, depending on the flow of the game.
While Flynn has been steady, Wilson has provided the Seahawks with more dynamic plays between the two quarterbacks, albeit against opposing team's second-string defenders. But a team source also noted that Wilson has played with second-teamers, for the most part, and has produced several big plays despite shoddy pass protection. He also has converted 54 percent of third down possessions, a source noted.
Wilson has completed 22 of 33 passes for 279 yards this preseason, throwing for three touchdowns with one interception. He also has rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown. Flynn, who signed with the Seahawks as a free agent this offseason, is 17 of 26 for 102 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
The Seahawks also want to see how Wilson handles the pressure of a starting assignment as opposed to coming off the bench in a relief role, which has been one of the scenarios the team hasn't ruled out as part of their game plan in 2012.
While Carroll understands that conventional wisdom normally would call for Flynn to start, he also has noted to his staff that conventional wisdom didn't call for the Seahawks to trade up in the draft's third round to select the 5-foot-10 Wilson out of Wisconsin.
If Wilson struggles against the Chiefs, the Seahawks haven't ruled out having Flynn start in the final preseason game.

barring injury I'm 90% confident he's the starter by midseason.
I'd give him about a 30-40% chance of being the Week 1 starter right now. He just needs a good appearance this weekend and he's the favorite.

^^ Ernie used to say that TJ Yates would play more in the NFL than Wilson back when both were playing against each other in college. Amazingly he looked to be right when Yates got insanely lucky with two injuries to get a chance to start. We'll see if Russell can prove Ernie wrong.
If I had been a gambling man, I would have bet my first born that neither ever saw an NFL snap back then. Maybe Ernie is a prophet. 8/21/2012 4:09:30 PM |

It doesn't take balls to start the guy who gives you the best chance of winning.
If you buy a rotten apple, you don't fucking eat it because you spent money on it. Throw it away and move on. This is only a tough decision for idiots.
Anyway, Flynn's contract is not a particularly big contract for an NFL starting QB. Across Wilson, Jackson, and Flynn, Seattle's QB costs aren't outstanding.

And I think Pete Carroll has proven that he really doesn't give a shit about who's getting paid and pressure to start certain players. He might be getting pushed a little bit by the front office to put Flynn, but I don't think he gives a flying fuck.8/22/2012 10:41:41 AM |

i do think it worked out for both parties in the end, and I'm glad we get two years of glennon. but this time last year that was a massive question mark. hindsight is 20/20, but when russell walked and then tried to turn people against TOB because of "an equal opportunity" that he blew off, he turned me off of him. i rooted against him every game last year. he took no personal responsibility, and I have no love for those kind of people
