^yea, it just bothered me the way skyfall ended, with the villain scanning over the graves and seeing monique bond and then going "oh wow, you have to be kidding me" and then walking into the church and going "of course, it HAD to be here" and then trying to make her kill both of them. just odd subpoints

"I thought this one was great. If you expect action sequences to be believable, you shouldn't be watching a Bond movie. I thought the Moneypenny bit jumbled the Bond chronology. Can someone set the record straight - if it's something like CR, QoS, Dr. No through Die Another Day in order of release...where does Skyfall fit in?"

To me, each Bond is in its own universe. The only thing consistent are character names and generalities, but nothing else. It would be impossible to have a 50 year movie franchise that made sense from A to B.

Also, I think besides George Lazenby , this is the first time we've seen Bond cry.

^ Good post

People ITT trying to cobble together timelines or complaining about unbelievable action sequences make me wonder if they've ever seen a Bond movie.

Skyfall was solid, but dragged a bit at times. CR is still by far the best Daniel Craig movie. 7.3/10

if you think skyfall dragged a bit at times i don't see how you can not say the same about CR and call it by far the best. the ending/s of that movie dragged like none other.

^^^I read an interesting theory that each new Bond is actually supposed to be a different man, and that only the codename 007 and the name "James Bond" lives on. Each man either dies in the line of duty or retires. The codename 007/Bond is reserved for only the best agent but the enemies of MI6 (SPECTRE and various supervillains) don't know this, they only know that 007 is a legend not to be underestimated.

I had heard that theory and liked it. Unfortunately, it's no longer valid after this movie.

Saw it last night...definitely behind Casino Royale, but not by much. I thought it was hugely enjoyable. I love Craig's Bond because it is somewhat grounded in reality; I mean, you could at least believe this could be happening somewhere in the world, which adds to the thrill of the movie (at least it does for me).

I really like that Skyfall at least addresses the lack of "the shadows" in terms of spywork in the modern technological age.

It's impossible to go back to the Brosnan films after this. Caught an hour of Tomorrow Never Dies the other night and it was hard to watch.

Because of Bonds parents' names? Those names are from a Conner film.

I, too, like that theory, though.

Because Skyfall goes with the story that Bond was just one guy, born in Scotland as James Bond. I guess you could always say he was the original and any subsequent 007 agents took the name.

Agreed (except for Goldeneye). Caught the last 30 mins of The World is Not Enough the other day and it was pretty bad. The disappointing thing is that Brosnan actually is a good Bond -- he plays the part very well. It's just that the writers for his movies did a poor job.

Everyone ITT fails to realize that Brosnan's writers are also Craig's writers....

Everything started to go downhill when the kids put themselves in charge of Cubby's empire...

That doesn't change the fact that the invisible car guys wrote CR, which everyone is claiming is still better than SF

I love tomorrow never dies. World is not enough and die another day, not so much. I mean Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist and then an invisible Aston Martin and ice palace? Get the fuck out. Brosnan was a great bond though overall

I'm not.

I'll take Skyfall over a card game and a Lord of the Rings-caliber refusal to FUCKING END any day.

And I think some of the people claiming that might change their tune if they rewatched CR after having seen SF. It was a welcome breath of fresh air and immeasurable improvement over the Brosnan films, but it's no Skyfall.

Purvis and Wade had a hand in writing each film since TWINE in 1999 IIRC. The biggest issue wasn't their writing, it was the directors that Brosnan got stuck with versus the ones Craig has gotten. Apted and his wife did a lot of work on the TWINE script before they started filming, and Tamorhi was the one who took DAD's script and added a decent amount of the fantastical bullshit that made it into the film. Craig has gotten better directors and also guys like Peter Morgan, Paul Haggis and John Logan worked on the scripts after Purvis and Wade wrote the first drafts of the script.

I've always loved Goldeneye and enjoy the first half of Tomorrow Never Dies, but the choices made with the cast, scripts and directors from '97-'02 really hurt his films.

agreed. better than Quantum of Solace, but not as good as Casino Royale - largely due to plot issues

Saw it tonight. Enjoyed it. I agree about parts being reminiscent of Home Alone and The Dark Knight

Watched it last night. The director wants to pull it back to the traditional Bond movie track. It's more traditional than the first two Daniel 007s. I like it. It's not as exciting as Casino Royal, but pretty special.

At least they bring back the classic bond rhythm.
