Biden kindof fumbled the abortion question, but people who are against abortion weren't ever going to vote for Obama.

States are finding ways to limit access to abortion as we speak.

And we still do not have comprehensive sex education.

Things do not look good for women's health, reproductive health, and family planning.

Growing from the middle out, not the top down. There's a line the campaign has been using a lot. Not surprised to see that line juxtaposed to the 47% line in his closing thoughts.

I like how Biden ripped off the Jack Kennedy debate jab from Bentsen/Quayle.

He has quite the habit of ripping things off doesn't he?

Goes all the way back to the 60s.

I think one of the biggest hits tonight was the moderator and Biden both pressing Ryan for specifics and him declining to give them. If it was just your opponent that's one thing, but with the moderator pushing more than once, that's going to hurt Ryan.

Bans abortion.

Eliminates child tax deductions.

The mod was clearly biased to the right on foreign policy. Her quotes:

"Iran is the biggest threat to National security"

"Joe it sounds like you don't believe they want a nuclear weapon"

Those kind of opinions have no place coming out of a moderators mouth.

As someone not voting for either party, I thought Biden looked like an unintelligent, rude, blowhard and thought Ryan, while looking more composed, lacked a lot of content and really deflected some of the hard questions. In other words, business as usual. I would be shocked if this had anywhere near the impact the earlier presidential debate had. Anyone saying their guy won is clearly biased, nothing happened that was newsworthy and should cause any reasonable person to change their vote (yeah, reasonable people...not saying much)

Not a dog in this fight really ... don't care for either guy. Biden's laugh took away from the fact he was nailing Ryan on most everything. But Ryan's remark about Scranton's unemployment was like a swift kick to Biden's balls.

That said, I do think it's funny how all my republican friends were all HELL YEAH MITT'S ON FIRE last week. Tonight, they're saying "Ryan was a total gentlemen and Joe Biden was an arrogant ass." Biden was just a more amped up version of Romney last week ... arrogant, interrupting and annoyingly uncivil at times.

Seriously, you can't have it both ways people.

I'll say one other thing before everyone forgets this VP debate even happened (because everyone will ... they always do). Biden was Biden. You knew what you were gonna get. He's the emotional, bumbling grandpa who seems to know everyone in town. He's a little crazy, but he's harmless overall.

But as someone who really liked the choice of Paul Ryan, he disappointed the hell out of me. He seemed completely scripted and robotic up there. He made some good points, but something about his tone wasn't appealing in the least.

In a weird way, he reminds me of this guy my sister used to date. He was always respectful around my parents. A little dull, but always said the right things. Then he'd turn around and be a gigantic asshole to my sister behind our back. Not sure why, but I kept thinking about that guy all debate.

He may have looked that way, but he sure didn't sound it. I don't think any non-Christian can vote for this pair after this statement:
Quote :
"They're infringing upon our first freedom, the freedom of religion"

How can he seriously sit there and claim to be the victim of religious persecution when his entire social platform is based on forcing his religious beliefs into secular law?

Oh, and explain this to me Willy (and the rest of you trying to argue one way or the other who the "winner" was):

Quote :
"A sitting VP has never lost a debate before-"

The winner of a debate is the one who changes the most minds. There's no point system, no scoreboard. Sure one candidate can seem smarter (Biden) or more professional (Ryan) than the other, but the only way to score is to receive votes, and none of you know exactly how effective either of them were because every person posting in here has an agenda.

I watched the entire debate and got drunk afterwards. Here is my expert opinion:

The moderator (Willem Dafoe + a wig) was somewhat biased in her questions asking more foreign policy questions (Biden's strength) then economic questions (Paul's strength).

Biden smiled more, and was more willing to interrupt than Ryan was, resulting in a better overall public perception.

I was glad to see a direct address of the role of military and war in the American perspective.

The moderator also, interestingly enough, directly addressed the Catholic audience and their influence during this debate. A very interesting and volatile demographic indeed. From my experience they vote on one issue alone and that is abortion. The moderator did press on Romney's flip flop stance on abortion which could suggest a partisan agenda or just a really cutthroat moderator. Based on only seeing her this once I cannot decide.

But I know that Jim Lehrer must be pissed and Paul Ryan is probably holding a pistol to his temple right now. Politics is depressing like that.

I don't want to be sassy or anything, but I do want to make clear that this is emphatically untrue.

Catholics are a large, diverse group of people who vote for all different reasons.

Catholics and Jews are the most reasonable sect of modern day believers for sure.

I thought that Biden answered the abortion question beautifully: It seemed from the heart and unscripted. Ryan just said everything the fundamentalist christians want to hear, and that argument is getting tiring. Biden also answered the supreme court quest excellently as well, IMO.

I think that Biden's only big mistake was not thanking Ryan and the conclusion of his talk.
