I always assumed it would be Kingsbury. Imagine if our job was open and Philip Rivers was one of the biggest up and coming OCs in the country.

it was the obvious, and right, move.

which means the chance a dumbass AD would make it about 50/50

Looks like we're stealing DC Dave Huxtable from Pitt.

Solid hire.

Was UNC's coordinator in '02 and '03.

Top Coaching Hires: http://insider.espn.go.com/college-football/blog/_/name/haney_travis/id/8761890/bret-bielema-arkansas-ranks-offseason-top-coaching-hire-ncf

1. Arkansas Razorbacks
Bret Bielema (previously: Wisconsin head coach)
2. Kentucky Wildcats
Mark Stoops (former FSU defensive coordinator)
3. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
Bobby Petrino (former Arkansas head coach)
4. Auburn Tigers
Gus Malzahn (former Arkansas State head coach)
5. South Florida Bulls
Willie Taggart (former Western Kentucky head coach)
6. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Kliff Kingsbury (former Texas A&M offensive coordinator)
7. Wisconsin Badgers
Gary Andersen (former Utah State head coach)
8. Cincinnati Bearcats
Tommy Tuberville (former Texas Tech head coach)
9. Tennessee Volunteers
Butch Jones (former Cincinnati head coach)
10. North Carolina State Wolfpack
Dave Doeren (former Northern Illinois head coach)
AD Debbie Yow was quick in her strike to obtain Doeren. It's difficult to argue Doeren's success in sustaining and lifting Northern Illinois' brand after taking over from Jerry Kill. The Huskies were 23-4 with Doeren in charge, even if it's sort of unfair that they'll now have to play the school's first BCS game, the Orange Bowl against FSU, without him.
A Kansas native, what's concerning about Doeren is that he has no direct ties to the area or league. We've seen that work on lower levels but rarely at a BCS level. Let's face it: Doeren would have made a lot more sense -- a lot more -- at Wisconsin. The fact he'll be coaching the Wolfpack next season and not the Badgers has a lot to do with timing, whether anyone admits that or not.
That said, it doesn't completely preclude Doeren from success at NC State, which has a fair commitment and recruiting base. Matt Canada's addition as the offensive coordinator is big for Doeren; Canada was with Doeren in his first year at NIU before going to Wisconsin. Doeren's defensive background dictated that he would need a strong offensive guy, and Canada fits the description.

11. Colorado Buffaloes
Mike MacIntyre (former San Jose State head coach)
12. Southern Miss Golden Eagles
Todd Monken (former Oklahoma State offensive coordinator)
13. Purdue Boilermakers
Darrell Hazell (former Kent State head coach)
14. Arkansas State Red Wolves
Bryan Harsin (former Texas offensive coordinator)
15. California Golden Bears
Sonny Dykes (former Louisiana Tech head coach)

Not sure why Willie Taggart is ranked so high. I don't think Wisconsion hiring Gary Anderson is a great hire either, neither of these is a better hire than Doeren IMO

^^ It is unclear what they seem to be ranking(unless they explain in the article and it wasn't posted).

Is it ranking the best coaches available that got hired, or best fit in terms of who the school hired for their particular program, or most likely to have success?

TOB to UVA makes sense considering all his ties to George Walsh and how TOB talked about Walsh as if he was Bear Bryant or something. Not sure what he'd really bring to the table other than experience since he does not recruit.

UVA adds 2 solid X's and O's coaches, but picked up too lousy recruiters. I'm sure UVA will give us a fit next year with Tentua knowing our personnel, but after they smashed us this year, wouldn't have been surprising either way.

Lol the billionaire Buffalo Sabres owner (a huge booster for Penn St) has donated $1.3 million to PSU to keep their coach and the donation is added straight onto O'Brien's salary to bump him up to $3.6M next year

Hiring a mediocre college coach worked out last time.

None other than Marc Trestman rumored to be on the Syracuse early list.. maybe Jay Davis can be OC or QB coach.

heard on the radio the other day that Tennessee has the largest football recruiting budget in the country at like $1.8 million a year or something...i think its like twice as much as whichever school has the 20th largest budget...and like $500k a year more than Alabama...and they can't even finish with a .500 conference record...what a joke of a school
