At the gun rally in Raleigh today, they spent a lot of time talking about needing to end same day registration during early voting. It just so happens that young voters (registering for the first time), college students (often moved for college), and people in general (less hassles equals more voters) use early voting same day registration. I noticed one of the first speakers was one of the amendment 1 advocates from last year. Funny how much this group is advocating for restricting others activities.

It would be nice if people would stop trying to offer up other people's rights as sacrifices to the politicians in the hopes of keeping the ones they like. The politicians will eat them all in the long run, and this stupid tit for tat makes it easier for them, divide and conquer and all that. What the hell does a gun rally have to do with same day registration for voting? Other than perhaps pointing out that if more stringent restrictions on voter registration are a violation of rights, so too would more stringent gun laws be.

I dunno. Sometimes I think that if people didn't have ta right to the second amendment, that they'd actually fight for the other ones. There's a false sense of security people seem to have so long as they have the right to blast 30 rounds into a burglar.

People have this "first they come for your guns, then they take your right to speech and other rights!" mentality. The reality is other way around, though.

I think it's more a matter of putting priorities on the things that actually affect you. The artificial political divide in this country means that in general the sort of person who is attending a gun rally in raleigh, they are unlikely to be affected by a voter ID / registration law, they already have an ID because they need one to get a gun, they're likely already registered because they've lived here a while. Similarly, the person attending the latest OWS rally in NYC is unlikely to be affected by a law banning 30 round magazines or common use rifles because either a) They live in NY where owning a gun is difficult at best, or b) Don't plan on ever owning a gun for some reason or another.

Fighting a political fight is tiring, time consuming and it's very easy to get your (reasonable and original) message taken over by other (more radical and controversial) people as occurred to both the tea party and OWS. Therefore most people are going to spend the most time fighting the battle that is directly and immediately threatening them.

A gun won't neccesarily give that to you.

But back to the original point, someone's causing permanent damage to the other has to compensate them monetarily because that is the only option left at that point.

Legally, the criminal is liable for the damages. Not the good guy who shot him.

You are pretty much right. Do you have any slightest idea how expensive medical treatment is?

Quote :
"Across medically treated cases, costs average U.S. $154,000 per gunshot survivor and U.S. $12,000 per cut/stab survivor. "

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9183471

So this criminal needs to be pretty wealthy. But looking at demographics, the ones that go on rampages aren't ones with $$TEXAS$$. So where are you going to get your financial compensation? Take them to court (if there is still a living being you can take to court), win the case, hold a judgement against them? Sure. Do all of that. Seize their worthless property and try to get back as much as you can. People with equity/capital in the financial scope we are looking at aren't usually the criminals attacking people.

Again, it would behoove you to try to prevent the damage by resisting the attacker (assuming fleeing successfully is a slim or futile option) and defending yourself/others. People shouldn't allow themselves to be victimized. The world isn't fair, kharma isn't going to even itself out. Protect yourself and your assets and you won't have to worry about fighting to retrieve them later.

^^ I was completely ok with registration until that happened.

I wonder if they understand how counterproductive that map was?

^^^surely you see the error in that thought process compared to a map pinpointing exact addresses.

Theater posts sign saying "No guns allowed!"

Response: "HAH. Clearly criminals will go here to avoid being shot back at!"

Wat? Why's everyone all pissy about that map? I thought that those gun made you more safe? Is this not true?

Why would a criminal try to rob you if they know you have a gun to protect yourself? Shouldn't that map actually point out all the "safe" places to rob because of the lack of guns? Shouldn't that map highlight the paths of least resistance?

Nope, apparently criminals only want to steal guns, and are willing to rob people that they KNOW have guns in their home and risk their lives just because THEY LIKE A CHALLENGE!

Can you at least be consistent with your stupid logic?

That map does both.
If they are looking for guns to sell, then they are more likely to break in during the day when people aren't home.
If they are looking for easier scores, then they go to the homes not listed, because they are "safer" to steal from.

And do what, exactly? Rob some random house in an effort to win some sort of mystery gun? Could be a heavy duty assault rifle, could be grandpa's old revolver. Who knows? FINDING OUT IS HALF THE THRILL! It's like a criminal's version of Deal or No Deal!

The beauty of the pro-gun side is that the everyday burglar is apparently a criminal mastermind, carefully analyzing data and coming up with logistics like a cheap UPS commercial. Very experienced, highly prepared, and virtually unpredictable due to their cunning savvy and criminal acumen. Yet the minute they are exposed to someone with a gun, that same criminal instantly becomes some hapless loser, unable to tell up from down, and an easy target for the "responsible gun owner."

You guys are silly.

Typical Ron Paul supporter

Let me just bring a loaded assault rifle with me every where I go. That way I can protect my family, since I have a history of being robbed 500 times.

I'm Krallum and I approved this message.
