He gets hurt about every two starts and has to miss a month or two each time.

GREAT win against Boston today.

56 wins before the All-Star break ties the mark set by the 71,72, and 73 A's for most wins

Even though the A's probably won't have an impact on the all star game at least Cespedes made sure we were part of the festivities!

A's have pretty much been consistent for almost a year now, but I still can't get comfy that we're a playoff team just yet:
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/
the adjusted odds probably best represent my feeling. I really think the Angels have better than 3%, they can easily go on a tear and its a completely different division

We have a VERY favorable schedule, all things considered. The only real way LAA could go on a tear is if the beat US. We play them 13 more times, 7 of them at home.

Yeah, that sucks for Balfour. Very lucky to have won the series playing so sloppy, and could have easily got swept @HOU.

I gotta tell ya, I don't feel all that comfy with just a 3 game lead in the ALWest. Weaver+Wilson are unhittable right now for LAA, TEX just loaded up with Garza, and SEA is on an 8 game win streak...

Hopefully Anderson returns again to be dominant in September/October

[Edited on July 24, 2013 at 5:38 PM. Reason : need more unhittable SPs]

Not to mention you will be losing colon

Then again cruz will be gone for the rangers

doubt we will lose Colon

they'll appeal and drag it out as long as possible

and Seattle is getting buried by Cleveland right now

3 games is nothing, but have some faith

Not sure which gives me more pleasure: the A's 5 game lead in their division and being 18 games over .500 OR the Giants already throwing in the towel and talking about trading away their talent. Tough call!

Sportsradio is saying there are rumors that melky cabrera, colon, a-rod will all be banned from baseball until the end of the 2014 season

Peralta, cruz, and others will get 50 games

Not feeling Chavez after his last few outings... makes me wonder if Beane has any 4 team deals in the works to give us a boost after TEX loaded up Garza?

Those two losses to TOR @ home were all like :face palm:

wtf was Garza acting like a little bitch last night? I saw that he was screaming at our bench, but the ESPN coverage really says nothing:
Quote :
"Sogard drove in an insurance run with a safety squeeze that had Matt Garza steaming for a bit... Garza hollered at Sogard after the play in the seventh inning gave the A's a cushion. "I asked him if there were any good places to eat in Oakland," Garza joked afterward."

At least he ended up taking the L.

this team is slumping away rapidly... talk about rapidly eroding a 6 game division lead!

Looks like the Callaspo trade was a bust. He has cost us in game critical situations a few times now, and hasn't really performed any better than Rosales/et al. Maybe he is really just a mole sent over by LAA?

What a difference a week makes

Not ready to hit the panic button quite yet, as the team is REALLY hard to beat when our hitting and pitching are firing on all cylinders, but this is NOT good

I take back what I said about Callaspo - he has hit two clutch doubles in the 8th inning over the past two games for us. Still not too impressed with him fielding though honestly...

Jed can't field either. And Texas is on fire. Going to have to get Anderson off the DL to come and take the spot behind Colon. Reddick had a nice weekend after his 0'fer.

yeah, TEX has the easiest schedule remaining of all AL playoff contenders. We have to beat them head-to-head (which we haven't really done yet) to repeat the division. Just like last year, it could go down to the wire!

That was pretty painful to watch in person. The A's constructed a comeback, down 5 runs to the fucking Astros with a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth. From our angle, Chris Young's 2 shot walk-off looked as legit as it gets. Of course, after they 'reviewed' it, they didn't even show the replay on the 1980s jumbotron

Oh well, at least Texas lost tonight too

Not sure I like the looks of the Stros SP tonight... 1-0 with low ERA, probably hasn't been figured out by AL hitters just yet. The last thing we need is to tank a series to the Stros!

2/3 against CLE and no we're .5 back behind TEX

I have a feeling that the rollercoaster ride for the division title we saw last year is going to be even more intense this year...

^not so sure...

We need TEX to beat themselves somehow, because their schedule isnt going to beat them:
vs.HOU, @CHISOX, @SEA, vs.MIN

While we are shaping up to play:
vs.SEA, @BAL, @DET, @TB

I see them winning almost all of those games, while we struggle to win half. Thus, falling behind 4-5 games for the AL West. The only other way we catch up is to dominate them H2H...

We get TB at home actually, and they've got to play them on the road, but your concerns are valid.

The biggest thing is that TEX gets it's final 7 at home against LAA and HOU, while we're on the road against SEA and LAA.

I still think it's going to be close.

Sonny Gray got lit up like an Xmas tree today. It's a good thing TEX also dropped 2/3 this weekend, because otherwise we'd be in even bigger trouble.

Going to have to take 2/3 from Texas from here on out. Also two of the three in the AL East are legit to take both Wild Cards. A's have to focus on Texas and get Anderson healthy.
