"It's funny how many Sony fans are suddenly coming out of the woodwork to admit the 360 had much better multiplayer. I rarely heard that before, wonder what could have happened?"

I have always thought the multiplayer was much better on the Xbox. The only reason I bought a PS3 was because my cousin had one and we hardly ever get to see one another. So to me it was nice to be able to hop online and play some CoD and get to "hang out" with him. That being said I absolutely hated Playstation Network. The only thing I did like about it was the fact that it was free. That being said you get what you pay for. XBL always seemed to run smoother than PSN and for that I had no problem paying $60 a year to pay to play online.

Also I personally like the games that were advertised for Xbox One better than what I saw for PS4. But just the price and no used game restrictions is enough to make me side with the PS4. As I said in the Xbox One thread I am sure I will end up buying a Xbox One along with the PS4 but at $500 it will be a year or so before I can make myself pay that price, just to many features with the Xbox One that I will never use that makes me think that it is just a waste of money.

I'm thinking people aren't taking into consideration their internet provider or connection here. I have my PS3 wired in with U-Verse and NEVER have connection problems. The only game I did have problems with was Uncharted 2 multi and I'm assuming that was just the game's shitty netcode.

Both my 360 and PS3 have been wired and ran on WiFi and either way the 360 still performed better online than the PS3. This has also been with TWC and SuddenLink.

I was racing with 10 friends online last Wednesday. On the last lap all 11 of us were kicked off the network at the same time. I don't think one person's ISP could be responsible for that.

will PS4 have dedicated servers? As a fan of multiplayer games, that's one of the things about Xbox One that had me the most excited.

Everything I am finding on dedicated servers is just rumors. I would like to think they would go with dedicated servers, it would definitely make the gameplay a lot better.

^thats my thought process on it as well. I think it would be hard for them to argue not having dedicated servers with them starting to charge for multiplayer access.

This may have been mentioned, but will PS+ still give you free games? Or is there an even more expensive version to get those?

has there been any press about the fact that while PS4 will not require a internet connection for DRM reasons as a platform, there is nothing preventing developers from requiring it?

xbone will offer dedicated servers via azure. this is built in to the XNA sdk, however, the developer/publisher is on the hook for infrastructure costs. this will in turn lead to devs looking for more revenue streams as incentivising your play now costs them money.

It may happen eventually, but expect a very slow roll out of PS3 games available through the streaming service. My advice would be to keep your PS3 if you want to keep playing your PSN purchased games.

"At the moment, PS+ is fantastic and most people love it, but detractors of the service repeatedly point out that many of the games are old, and that they already own them. That won’t happen with the PS4 – it’s a clean slate. As the console doesn’t support backwards compatibility (at least not until 2014 through cloud), Sony won’t be able to fill PS+ with old PS3 games, like the Vita PS+ is filled with old PSP games. Instead, Sony is forced to give you new content."

The size difference is pretty stark imo, especially considering the PS4 and XBone are basically identical spec wise. Also has an internal power supply.

PS2>Xbox (except for Halo)
Xbox360>PS3 (except for Blu-Ray)

I will give my thrilling comparison of these new ones in about 8 years.

Motion gaming forfeit: PlayStation Camera isn't bundled with the PS4, and that's a big problem
Sony sacrifices a peripheral for price, cedes motion gaming to the Kinect
Quote :
"Microsoft's Marc Whitten told us they did this purposefully so developers have a consistent "palette" for creating experiences, "whether it's touch... whether it's Kinect... or whether it's a gamepad, and more importantly, how those all play together." Together, he explains, it's that "full package," the couldn't-do-it-for-less-than-$499 package, that makes the Xbox One work. "So once you say that's the palette that everyone will have forever, that's really important."

The Kinect's higher fidelity, better sound isolation, and more advanced APIs mean developers have many more tricks than last time. Gone are the days of exaggerated arm flailing and misheard voice commands in Kinect games. Kinect just makes games better now.

Meanwhile, Sony hasn't even proved the PlayStation Camera can be used for experiences much beyond what you could do with the original Eye, or the last-gen Kinect.

When I got upstairs and found the "tech demo" for "the camera," I found two people on a couch interacting with Sony'sThe Playroom game concept. It's a collection of terrible minigames, which show the different mechanics available with the combination of the Camera and the DualShock 4 controller - just with better graphics than most tech demos. You can flick sparks off the DualShock 4's touchpad, tilt the DualShock 4 to annoy the space robots, and bat around a space ball with your hands. The last of these, the one that actually relied on the camera, didn't seem to work very well, like it couldn't quite tell where the player's hands were."

I don't see the eye being adopted much

except that the PS3 had blu-ray, that alone is what made a lot of people purchase it over the 360. its less of an issue now, but at the time it was significant.

I prefer the console exclusive games on the PS3 so I like it better even without the Blu-Ray. Had a 360 and sold it, no regrets there except not being able to play Deadly Premonition anymore (and no, I'm not going to get the Director's Cut).

It just lets them sell the base model for cheaper, since a lot of people don't have any interest in motion control. MS couldn't do that because motion/voice controls is an integral part of their whole "living room experience".

I'm going to say the majority of your hardcore gamer base doesn't care about motion gaming. And most would appreciate the fact that they can buy a base unit without having to buy the camera too. Just sell the system with a controller and they are good to go.

I have no interest in motion gaming either but some of the ways kinect could potentially be integrated into traditional games seem pretty cool, and that's only possible because of the fact that kinect's going to be standard across the board.

http://gizmodo.com/the-xbox-one-requiring-kinect-is-a-great-thing-for-cont-512772774

Quote :
"Because every console will have Kinect, every game can be developed with it in mind. Just leaning to a side can make your character move, like it did in the Xbox One FPS demo. And because Kinect 2 is so advanced, it can read your movements almost as quickly as you can press the B button. Microsoft showed how if you touch your temple in the FPS demo, it'll immediately turn on x-ray vision in the video game."

no one doesn't understand why they did it, I (and the article I'm posting) are just pointing out that by not including and requiring it, its unlikely that it gets adopted any more than the previous generation was. and it doesn't look like its any more capable than the previous generation. To contrast that, Microsoft required their kinect and had a major improvement on its capabilities. Since everyone will have this capable device, its much more likely that game developers will utilize its features as part of the core experience (as opposed to chintzy, non-important features), and this is exciting to me.

1st party exclusives, sure. The 3rd party exclusive is dead this gen though and most games will be XBone/PS4/PC. Only one of those have Kinect and I doubt most developers are going to put significant effort into tailoring an experience that only applies to one platform.
