Lots of fun action and quips, but everything feels super forced and rushed. The writing and acting was unbearable until the last third of the movie. I will post further comments after others have seen this, but this was, by far, the worst MCU movie to date.
Trying to compliment the movie in any way makes me sound like I'm talking about a Michael Bay movie. I like Michael Bay movies now and then, but not when it's supposed to be the current pinnacle of a franchise which has been planned and building up for many years. 5/1/2015 12:56:18 PM |

The first was way better to me. I didn't care for this one too much.
Might be because there was no Loki.
I'm ready for Thor 3

Hyperbole much? Did you miss Iron Man 2? Yeah it was a little packed..Im guessing the extended cut we will be getting in a few months may let that flow a lot better...depending on how much of the original cut is restored.5/1/2015 3:33:57 PM |

I agree that Iron Man 2 was pretty bad, but it was still a better movie than this one. The acting in the first hour was just unredeemable. Forced Hollywood cliches for the non-superhero moviegoers. The movie would have been better if they didn't add certain characters. 5/1/2015 3:46:37 PM |

Just got back from it and really enjoyed it. The pacing wasn't great and there were some problems with the storytelling that kept it from being the best Marvel movie, but it's in the top half, which is still good since I have found every marvel movie to be at least enjoyable and half of them to be great.
1: Iron Man 2: Avengers 3: Guardians 4: Winter Soldier 5: Age of Ultron 6: Iron Man 3 ----Cut off line between great action movie and enjoyable popcorn flick---- 7: The Dark World 8: The First Avenger 9: Thor 10: Iron Man 2 11: The Incredible Hulk

I enjoyed it. I agree it felt rushed, I thought they'd at least establish Ultron as a character before he went berserk, but nope he was batshit from the beginning. And they really don't explain why Vision turned out to be good. Maybe because Ultron didn't finish downloading himself into it?
And I thought the acting was fine. Quicksilver was a bit bland, but that's about it. The movie has so many characters that it had to do a lot in very little time. I'll definitely pick up the extended edition.

Not much character development (except the forced stuff between Hulk and Widow) and too much action (the opening scene has the worst CGI the series has had so far).
That being said, it wasn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. Still very entertaining and the fights were kind of cool, especially Iron Man vs Hulk.
But ultimately, this movie was about making the world not trust superheroes. This was clearly a place holder. Civil War should be the pinnacle everyone is hoping for. Ragnarok should be pretty awesome, Phase 2, aside from Winter Soldier, was meh compared to Phase 1 as a whole. But I am VERY much looking forward to Phase 3.

Alright I like it. It did its job. Good special effects. Felt like a comic book. I feel there is absolutely no tension with these films. It's full of jokes and bro talk during the films which I don't mind except when it comes to Ultron. All his funny one liners were throwing me off. Matter of fact he acted like a Disney villain ( I'm seeing what they are doing here those sly bastards ). I expected him eventually to break out in a song and dance number. The trailer portrayed him in a darker serious tone I thought. But after what they did to the Mandarin I should have known better. Ultron was barley in the film it felt like.
Also where the hell did this hulk and black widow love affair come from? It felt forced.
I always like Elizbeth Olsen and all her indie movies but man she looks exactly her twin sisters. I was looking for Danny.
The whole Vison thing felt awkward as hell. Maybe it's the pacing but one part Thor comes out of no where and its weird....
Love the scenes where all the avengers are shown their fears. Good stuff.
No black panther but they had two black guys in it. (Who didn't do a damn thing lol) 5/3/2015 3:48:54 AM |

^^Yeah I didn't like that they made Ultron so quippy. In the trailers he was portrayed as this cold, calculating villain but half the movie he acts kind of silly. I don't know if Whedon or Disney/Marvel are to blame, but they really misled us in the trailers. 5/3/2015 3:29:50 PM |

I'm not sure why anyone had a problem with Ultron. I thought the only issue was that he went too quickly from save the world to destroy it, but his jokes made perfect sense considering he was made by Tony. They pointed this out multiple times, including even saying "That is exactly what Tony Stark used to say" and the scene where he made the same joke before Tony did.
I enjoyed it, tbh I liked it more then 1. I thought some of the dialogue was corny but what do you expect, its a comic book movie and at this point Avengers is the movie meant to appeal to the biggest crowd, especially kids. 5/4/2015 7:34:33 AM |

I think after Daredevil, things will need to start changing for the MCU movies, unless they want to specifically market them to kids. Sure, we'll have another Guardians of the Galaxy for the adult crowd, but Daredevil takes it to a different level. 5/4/2015 7:48:18 AM |

I think the whole "dark" superhero movie is DC's thing, no reason for Marvel to get into that world given what they've built.
I enjoyed the movie. It wasn't as good as the first Avengers, but it's been better than a lot of their more recent movies. I actually loved some of the random one-liners and they often made me chuckle.
The only thing that seems to bother me from movie-to-movie is that in the Avenger movies they make the Iron Man suits look so much stronger than in the actual Iron Man movies. Iron Man 3 every suit looked like it was made out of aluminum the way they got trashed, and then this one it survived so much more damage without falling apart.
Also, Marvel, stop trying to make Hawkeye being a big deal happen, it's not going to happen. 5/4/2015 8:51:02 AM |

It most definitely was rated pg-13, and probably appealed to the widest audience age range of any MCU movie. I'd say Captain America 2 was probably the film most geated towards adults. 5/4/2015 9:16:06 AM |

It really has to do with the trailers. The trailers make Ultron look like this moral vacuum who unleashes hell on earth. Turns out he's another wise-cracking bad guy (among wise-cracking good guys). The movie had a good reason for Ultron's personality, but it still differed widely from the trailer.5/4/2015 11:29:34 AM |

I have to see it again, just so I can fully hear all the lines and get the context of all the conversations.
Thought it was a really good movie. I have come to expect that Marvel will be kid friendly and full of jokes, one liners and family oriented comics. To expect anything different at this point would be like expecting Money Mayweather to come out brawling
After reading the above post, I have to agree, this is a placeholder to build up for phase 3. They did give reasons not to trust these heros/mutants... To say this was the worst movie is just coming off like a complaining child who did not get their way.

Agreed. Thought it would have made sense to have falcon pop up with Rhodes with the helicarrier shuttling people.
I'll have to watch it again, but was there any explanation of how tony went from blowing up 42 suits of armor to mass producing an iron legion? Seems like the only thing they took from that movie was repainting the mark 42 and calling it the mark 43.5/4/2015 11:47:16 AM |

I think one thing that's hard to get past with the rapid scaling of these comic book movies, Man of Steel being the biggest offender but this being a close second, is how many civilians are actually killed. They show them save the random person here and there but you know they didn't even get close to saving everyone. So, when you have Scarlett Witch responsible for killing so many people indirectly and then all is forgiven in the end, that seems inconsistent to me. With Hawkeye, Stark, and Banner you at least have the mind control thing to explain it somewhat. 5/5/2015 6:33:31 AM |

But tell us how you truly feel? From my point of view, even after reading the comments here, I still stick to my earlier comments. As a movie, it was bad. Maybe still entertaining in certain pockets, but still a bad movie.
The movie just jumped from one scene to another without any sort of flow. Just go with it because they say so. Take the beginning. They start in the middle of a fight, which is fine, but they pretty much ignored the events of Iron Man 3 ever happened, and they never address Tony giving up his suits or starting efforts to get them back.
Also, as people have mentioned, Ultron's development was non-existent. Rawr, I'm Ultron and I'm bad. And instead of the insidious villain you wanted, I'm just a fun-loving robot who thinks it would be super swell if all people would die. Why you getting on my case, bro?
On the topic for wildly unnecessary "just go with it" moments, there was no reason for Ultron to confront the twins to join his cause. It felt like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane joining together in Batman and Robin. In fact, remove the twins altogether and you probably end up with a better movie. They felt like they were not written in the original script and just tacked on because we needed more characters for future movies. It was mildly interesting seeing the Avenger fears for some back story, but completely unnecessary.
Then there was Hawkeye's family moments because people complained that he wasn't developed enough as a character. Felt completely forced and that time could have been spent on other core characters. Release a compendium video for his character as a promo for the movie or afterwards for DVD extras or something, but make a good movie first.
And the same thing for the Bruce Banner and Black Widow hookup. So much time devoted on developing that forced set of scenes when it could have been better used on the plot or developing other characters. The fact that we ended up with a weaker movie because they wanted to attract that oh-so important tween demographic just makes it worse.
And the acting... the scene with the avengers arguing after defeating Ultron was the worst acted scene I can think of from the MCU.
---
Really though, it was mostly the flow that got me. Too much rushing and "we say so". Each set of scenes was just too disjointed.
"Hi, I'm Ultron. I am bad because I say so." </End Character development> "Hello Ultron! I'm Vision. I am good because I say so." </End Character development>5/5/2015 7:31:57 AM |

Which folks did Scarlet Witch kill indirectly? They make a point of commenting that Ultron didn't kill anyone to begin with and she and Quicksilver save lots of folks during the train scene. 5/5/2015 9:55:28 AM |
Money_Jones Ohhh Farts 12521 Posts user info edit post |
They also explicitly state many times that they are going to save every last person on the floating city, and appear to do so. I'm assuming ^^^ was talking about the Hulk vs Iron Man scene, where once again they go out of the way to have Tony say "let's get you some place less populated" and then show that the building he brings down on him is empty, so I don't think Robopimp has a very valid point about this being the 2nd biggest offender for civilian collateral damage. 5/5/2015 10:16:14 AM |
Robopimp Veteran 439 Posts user info edit post |
It's more in incidental damage. Of all the buildings that got destroyed, I have a hard time believing nobody was left in them or crushed by falling debris or hit by a car flying through the air or falls off the edge of a floating city. It didn't ruin the movie for me but I also wouldn't call my point invalid. 5/5/2015 10:51:47 AM |
Money_Jones Ohhh Farts 12521 Posts user info edit post |
yes people def would have died, but the part I think isn't valid would be that this is the second worst offender. In superman they never even attempt to address all the thousands that would have to have been murdered in the fights, in this they make numerous showings of how they are trying to minimize the civilian casualties. I'd say the first avengers was a worse offender than this one. 5/5/2015 11:08:05 AM |
