"NC State (3-3) at Florida State (6-0) Oct. 26, 3:30, ABC/ESPN

Why You Should Give A Hoot: Being a ‘Nole hasn’t felt this good in more than a decade.

It’s been a very long time coming, but Florida State is relevant on a national level, courtesy of last week’s improbable 51-14 obliteration of Clemson on the road. The Seminoles are No. 2 in the initial BCS rankings, and are led by a bona fide Heisman contender, QB Jameis Winston. Heck, this weekend the program will build another bridge to the glory days by holding Bobby Bowden Day to recognize its legendary coach. Now all FSU has to do is maintain by playing in the second half the way it did in the first. NC State has had its share of struggles during Dave Doeren’s debut, going 3-0 against non-AQ opponents and 0-3 versus teams from the ACC.

Why NC State Might Win: Florida State was riding high last year, ascending to No. 5 nationally, before getting stunned by the Wolfpack. Different circumstances, sure, but there are a lot of holdovers on the NC State roster who know what it feels like to beat the Seminoles. The Pack has had two weeks to get healthy and get refocused. Best of all, it welcomes back QB Brandon Mitchell, the one-time starter who’s been out since the opener. He gives State its best chance of successfully operating Doeren’s up-tempo system.

Why Florida State Might Win: The Seminoles are better than the Wolfpack at every unit, the foundation for a blowout. You want balance? Florida State ranks No. 3 nationally in both scoring offense and scoring defense. The exploits of wunderkind Winston have been well-documented in recent days, but how about Jeremy Pruitt’s defense? The ‘Noles go two-deep with size, speed and tenacity, a major hurdle for an NC State offense that’s flimsy up front and giving the ball to a quarterback who last took a snap in August. This does not figure to be pretty for the visitors.

Who To Watch Out For: Florida State CB Lamarcus Joyner played like an All-American last week at Clemson, yet he’s never going to get the attention he deserves. In fact, the ‘Noles are such a collaborative effort on D that many of their players tend to get overlooked outside the region.

- If NC State is going to hang around beyond halftime, it’ll need a monster effort from the veteran D-line. Tackle Thomas Teal and ends Art Norman and Michael Rose must pressure Winston, preventing him from picking apart a secondary already down one starter.

- Florida State RB James Wilder Jr. is listed as day-to-day after suffering a concussion. The ‘Noles can afford to be cautious since Devonta Freeman and Karlos Williams are eminently capable of shouldering the load.

eminently capable of shouldering the load.

What Will Happen: Letdown? More like conquering heroes returning to Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles will revel, with Bowden in attendance, in their new spot as one of the nation’s top contenders for a national championship. NC State is the wrong team to be catching Florida State napping the week after an emotional win.

Prediction: Florida State 47 … NC State 13 "

Just curious, what would you all choose: W @ FSU and L vs UNC, or L @ FSU and W vs UNC?

W vs UNC. In a year where a W vs FSU would actually give us a legitimate shot at the Atlantic division, I might reconsider my answer. But we aren't in the division hunt at all. So I'll take a UNC win this year.

L against FSU = expected. L against unc= embarrassing in any year. Give me the W against unc, as long as it's a blowout.

I'll take a loss every year vs FSU for the next 30 years if it means we beat UNC every year for the next 30 years.

I'll take a loss vs UNC for the next 30 years if it means we beat (insert any random top 10 team) for the next 30 years.

I rather be relevant and getting national attention (and actually be good) than just beating some crap unc team. Anybody that disagrees is backwards and the obsessed red-headed step child state fan that UNC fans make fun of in the first place.

[Edited on October 23, 2013 at 11:40 PM. Reason : beating fsu last year probably equated to glennon starting on sunday.]

yeah cause we'd get so much national attention from going 7-5 with a win over Florida State or Clemson every year

if we literally beat UNC THIRTY YEARS IN A ROW... oh man, i think it just moved

beating unc 30 times in a row means absolutely nothing outside of your office bragging rights.

beating a top 10 team 30 seasons in a row means you were good enough to do that for 30 straight years. it means you now have football history and were relevant nationally for the entire lifetime of every player and most nfl players. it means you have a huge base of alumni in the pros and maybe even championships.

we already have a lot of players in the pros

and if you lose to UNC every year, you're not gonna win a championship

if you lose a game in the ACC, whether it be to #3 Florida State or unranked UNC, you're never gonna win a national title, so it doesn't matter

or you could be like Wake Forest, who won an ACC title! Only like 5-6 years ago! Are they a national powerhouse? of course not

WRONG

you could win the acc because you beat all the teams in your division.

You think a 2-3 loss ACC team is going to be selected over the SEC champ, Big 10 champ, PAC-12 champ, Big 12 champ and any 1 or 2 or 3 loss SEC teams/possible 1-loss Stanford types? Ok. Got it.

If the UNC basketball program ever had a dog fighting scandal it would just spark a national debate about how maybe it was time we should start allowing people to legally fight dogs.

Ok, so I'm not saying we are going to win, but I am saying there are several factors that are in our favor. This match will go to FSU, if they play like they did against Clemson, no question about it. I don't think they'll play that well, but instead they'll play more like they did against Boston College. Here is why:

- The way fans think about a game reflects a lot like how players are thinking. They may say one thing on tv, but they all think this is a different team because of Winston. They have complete faith in him, and believe that they can put at least 40 pts.

- Their defence is prepared to face a poor-mediocre offence, and have a lot of faith in their offence. They don't have the pressure to put in a full effort since the offence can bail them, thus they expect to play a well enough game to win, but not to their full potential like against CU.

- Our offence is completely different with Mitchell in, we saw it in those three drives. It runs faster, and the run option with QB helps our running game. FSU struggles with the run game, and our ability to keep the ball, helps us from Winston getting into the game, and our defence will get more rest.

- FSU doesn't know this offence, and although it's similar to CU offence, the players and coaches will not be as prepared without the film.

- State has nothing to lose but a lot to gain. On the other hand if FSU starts to struggle there is a lot more in the line than when they were playing @BC. The reminder of the upset they had from last year can creep in and cause fear and nervousness.

This game will be won in an offensive effort with our defence following suit (unlike last year where the opposite is true), and if we are to win we will have to put in a game plan like the Chargers did against the Colts. Rivers knew when to run it, the game took too much time from Luck, thus he never got into the game and in synch, the surprise of a team being able to run better than expected made the Colts defence and coaches unprepared. We have to do something similar in their turfs, without the talent that the NFL team has and a prepared veteran QB. But if Mitchell is able to keep the ball, and open the running game, maybe we have a better chance than what ppl think.

This all depends on how good Mitchell is, which is a big cloud of mystery, which makes our offence a big cloud of mystery, and all of what I said in doubt.

these are the type of state fans that suck

you are not really a state fan or a pretty shitty one if you rather suck just to see another team's fans unhappy.

a lot of you would rather suck than unc be good. if you had the choice of losing to unc in the final four 3 years straight you wouldn't take it because it guarantees unc is a. beating us, and b. in the championship. you'd rather things stay the way they are now where unc still might make the championship and we will never make the final four.
