the shitty tire issue pops up a few times each year. there's usually a few teams who adapt and are up front at the end.

a huge part of stock car racing is learning how to manage your equipment, especially your tires, with your setup and driving style.

with that said, if they brought back the tire wars, we might see better tires.

Re the announcer poll, the Waltrips don't surprise me. Darrell is a complete caricacture. McReynolds can be an absolute idiot on the mic when he wants to be, so him rating so high surprises me. Hammond is just as much a gimmick as Darrell and yet he has more positive than negative.

Don't understand why so many people don't like Dallenbach.

Bestwick will be doing ABC's Indycar coverage this year (including the 500).

^personally i never like to see an engine failure and want all three engine makes to be close on power.

Nascar(to me) is about getting the car set up right so the driver can get on the gas before the other guys coming out of the turn. I dont want to hear any legitimate excuses why you lost.

Second, regarding "it would suck if a guy could only run 10th because his tires were inferior", this very thing happened in MotoGP in 2008. There was a mass exit of teams and riders leaving Michelin for Bridgestone, and the only Michelin runners left would've been the people at the back end of the field that had zero political power (it's not about merit and being better, these decisions are all politics). No rider wanted Michelins at all. If Dorna didn't make the decision to go down to single tire supplier (first time in the 60 years of MotoGP racing), you were going to end up with de facto single tire supplier for all the people that had a chance of winning, and once Michelin lost their factory team, they were going to be pull out as a supplier anyway.

Le Mans is this way. It's open to anyone. But all it means is Michelin, which everyone knows is the best tire to have, picks and chooses who they want to supply. All the other teams are shit out of luck and see what they can get. And when they do, it's not like they can negotiate a better financial deal with the inferior tire manufacturer, they cost as much as Michelin because they know "the only reason you're here is because Michelin declined to give you tires".

When one tire is heavily inferior to the other, it's all anyone talks about. Don't discuss riders, engines, chassis, race strategy, etc. The reason I think more people accept engines controlling outcomes as opposed to tires is engines and chassis are technically controllable and can be adjusted at the track, while tires are chemically-controlled, made thousands of miles away, and you pretty much take them as is. Which is why the USGP debacle of 2005 occurred.


Hoosier came into NASCAR for one season in 1994. Hoosier makes their money on supplying tires for short track racing. Geoff Bodine won them 3 races. Goodyear at the end of '94 pretty much told them "get out of NASCAR or we're getting into short track racing". Hoosier is a small company, Goodyear could've thrown a lot of money into short track and undercut them on cost to put Hoosier out of business.

same thing happened to me last time i went up there. had fairly warm weather for a few days, cold front moved through with lots of rain, then cold for the race. that was the year they ran it on Monday due to rain. 2009 or 2010, i don't remember.
