Let's go back to the days before the shot clock era when folks ran the four corners offense once they got a lead.

NCAA Men's Ruleshttp://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/13037928/ncaa-announces-rule-changes-2015-16-including-30-second-shot-clock-fewer-outsNCAA Women's Ruleshttp://espn.go.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/13038918/ncaa-approves-change-four-quarters-women-basketballWell the men have gone to the 30 second shot clock like the women and in the women's game "Teams also will be allowed to inbound the ball from the frontcourt if a timeout is called following a basket, a rebound or a change of possession in the final minute of the fourth quarter and all overtime periods."I'm not a fan of the taking it out at half court just because you motioned to the ref for a TO. That's not fair to teams that just made a good play on offense in a close game. In that situation a team should have to earn their 94 feet like Duke did in 1992 vs Kentucky in the NCAA regional. Seeing these rules implemented in the women's game is sort of disappointing to me since the NCAA treats them like a lab rat (see shot clock rules).

You only got up to 3 timeouts in the 2nd half. If you want to burn one to change position of the ball, so what?
6/9/2015 2:03:39 PM
^Would you be cool with special teams pinning a team on the 1 yard line with one minute left in a football game while up one point and then having the other team call a TO which would result in the ref placing the ball on their own 40 yard line? That is basically what happens in NCAA Women's basketball and the NBA. I like how in the men's game you have to earn your position on the court. If you want to run a play from the half court sideline in the closing seconds then you have to advance the ball there and call a TO. This is basketball not shoots and ladders.[Edited on June 9, 2015 at 2:11 PM. Reason : .]

its how the NBA does it but... I agree both leagues should not get to advance the ball after a timeout. I like the exciting last second plays at full speed up the court. Especially if Trevor Lacey is playing against Ga Tech. But not when Chandler Parsons or Chris Paul do it.
6/9/2015 2:14:10 PM
^And I'm cool with all of that because they earned it. I'm not cool with someone being rewarded 47 feet for being schooled on defense in the last 3 seconds of the game.

Nba is just a basket whore. Anything to make more baskets.

I disagree. This isnt golf. The other objective is to prevent the other team from doing it.[Edited on June 9, 2015 at 9:37 PM. Reason : At least it should be]

You can't win a game 0-0
6/9/2015 9:44:23 PM
^^^^^That's exactly what it is because you are being moved closer to the goal for achieving nothing except for calling a TO.
6/9/2015 10:22:43 PM
Basketball teams go the entire length of the court hundreds of times during a game. Football teams do that maybe 10-20 times a game. Terrible analogy.
6/9/2015 10:32:38 PM
^I know what you're saying, but you still shouldn't get a free pass to half court for doing nothing but calling a TO. You should have to earn that position on the court just like a football team has to do in the final minute when trailing with the ball. If you can't advance the ball 94 feet in 3 seconds after giving up a 1 point lead, then you lose.
6/9/2015 10:42:50 PM
You have a better chamce winning a game 0 to 0 than letting the other team score every time.
6/9/2015 10:45:04 PM
^^I understand your position as well, but it's apples and oranges comparing it to football. Basketball teams get the ball across halfcourt all game routinely in less than 8-10 seconds. Football teams have multi-play drives that don't get to the 40 yard line.[Edited on June 9, 2015 at 10:45 PM. Reason : ^^]
6/9/2015 10:45:31 PM
^And if a basketball team gets it across half court in the final two minutes of play in a matter of just seconds then that is fine with me as long as they earned it and made a good play. What I don't want to see is college using the NBA rule where you get a free pass to half court for achieving nothing and more than likely playing bad defense late in a close game. Unfortunately college basketball wants to become the no defense circus that is called the NBA. I suppose it will be only a matter of time before they have the silly 3 second defense rule in college.

Thats when ill stop watching all together.
6/9/2015 10:56:52 PM
Timeouts are incredibly valuable commodities and you greatly underestimate their value. Especially in a level where 50% of the players aren't good enough to game manage without a coach in their ear.Lol wait people still think that NBA doesn't play defense. FFS there is literally a defensive masterclass going on as I type this...[Edited on June 9, 2015 at 10:59 PM. Reason : X]

The fact that you cant double team kills it for me. Its not that they dont play defense or arent good at it. Its just that the rules make it illegal to properly defend any player who cpmmands a double team.
6/10/2015 7:50:22 PM
^^That is one out of 14 or so on roster and about 10 on that roster that would get some real playing time throughout the season. Sure some players foul out more than others, but even on a bad night when 3+ guys foul out, there are still more guys on roster who didn't foul out at the end of the game than did. Like I said, with the current rules it takes averaging 1 foul every 8 minutes in both the NBA and NCAA to foul out. They need the extra foul in the NBA because of the extra 8 minutes.

Thoughts on the Men's 2018 NIT?Farther back 3 point linewider lane30 second shot clock, 20 seconds after an offensive reboundFour 10 minute quartersShoot 2 free throws starting with the 5th foul in each quarter. Team fouls reset at the start of each quarter.

Apparently all of the "last 4 out" teams have been defeated. So it looks like they weren't NCAA tourney worthy after all.]
3/25/2018 3:16:04 PM
What’s the benefit to quarters over halves?
3/25/2018 3:22:08 PM
I guess to prevent a team from getting in the bonus early and then being in the bonus the entire rest of the half. But otherwise it's more of a formality.
3/25/2018 3:28:17 PM
It would eliminate one and ones. I’d prefer to have free throws on the 4th team foul of the quarter.
3/25/2018 3:38:51 PM
Yeah I wasn’t sure if there was something aside from fouls/free throws that I was missing.
3/25/2018 6:29:45 PM
an extra TV timeout for that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
3/25/2018 6:37:34 PM
Actually if they use the women’s rule it would eliminate a tv timeout. One per quarter plus the quarter break[Edited on March 25, 2018 at 6:56 PM. Reason : Read the rules]
3/25/2018 6:55:16 PM
Oh, I suppose soI guess the "under 5" timeout once per quarter[Edited on March 25, 2018 at 7:02 PM. Reason : .]

3/25/2018 7:44:48 PM
Yeah that’s fine. I’m not opposed. I was just curious about the pros/cons of it. Like, why one over the other? And apparently the foul/one and one bonus is the main (only?) thing. [Edited on March 25, 2018 at 8:28 PM. Reason : A]
