Sorry, I read it as 6 wins against non-conference. 11/28/2014 10:19:15 PM |

when I see "major conference" I always think bcs level which aac/big east no longer is. I'd say that they are in a good basketball conference but I wouldnt call it a "major conference".
I don't see how you can knock this schedule, you cant play p5 teams every single game. I like scheduling these sneaky good mid majors. Both richmond and boise state will finish in the top three of their league and if they got into the dance could pull an upset or two (especially boise state). I think USF will finish in the top half of the aac as well.

no you can't knock this schedule at all. and it actually gets pretty tough now. purdue on the road, tennessee, west virginia, and cincy in terms of "name" opponents. la tech is pretty good too. obviously we don't have any top 10 teams on the schedule. but gott's scheduling is the only reason we made the tourney his first year and last year. i trust he knows what he's doing. 11/28/2014 10:41:09 PM |

Yup, these wins will only help when its time for selection Sunday. We will have plenty of chances for 'marquee wins' during league play.
They better get in because I am taking a week vacation in Vegas for March Madness. 2012 was one of the best weeks of my life. 2013 sucked big time 11/29/2014 1:00:50 AM |

Sarcasm? Because he's third on the team in 3 pointers, assists, and blocks. Considering he's a freshman that doesn't start, I'd say that's pretty impressive.
I really love the way he plays too ... his shot is effortless and he's not afraid of the moment. He hit a driving layup and then a huge 3 in the Richmond game that finally gave us some breathing room. He also had a great assist to Abu last night on a drive when BSU was starting to make a comeback.

Can someone explain to me how we're not considering the AAC/Big East a major conference? I grew up in a non-ACC household (sec and c usa), and it was always considered that the AAC/Big East was one of the best. I know they've lost a few main players the past few years, but they still have some solid programs. Also, as I'm now a wolfpack fan and following the acc I've noticed that everyone seems to think that the acc is either the best or one of the best conferences (which it definitely is). I don't know if many of you know this, but for people who didn't grow up with the acc (at least for all of my friends, family, and people who lived near me) they're only consisted an above average conference mostly because they have great teams and extremely bad teams. Thoughts? 11/29/2014 8:34:33 AM |

I think people are confused with football because I hear power 5 thrown around quite a bit in basketball threads. Basketball is much different because there are almost 3 times as many total teams, no fbs, small team size, and it only takes a few good players to make a deep run.
Teams like Gonzaga, Wichita State, Butler, Saint Joe's, Davidson, have all been great teams at some point recently but are in those other conferences. The top teams in those conferences can compete with anyone but theres a quick dropoff. South Florida was in the old big east which was the best conference though. The american is still a decent conference.
Obviously a conference like the MEAC or Sun Belt is pitiful but conferences like the A-10, American, or WCC are high major conferences. 11/29/2014 11:17:54 AM |

WCC is garbage aside from 2 teams (sometimes 3 if BYU is playing well)
I'd put Mountain West above WCC 11/29/2014 12:10:28 PM |

In CBB, you need to talk about multi-bid conferences and not "BCS."
The MWC is a multi-bid league, probably even with the AAC. They usually get in SDSU, UNM, UNLV, and one other. AAC has UConn and Memphis and Cincy.

Found an interesting list of all-time tournament bid counts. ACC is #1 with 359, but the next 5 are all between 219-273.
The list is based on current members, so we we have the benefit of Syracuse, Louisville, Pitt, etc. It also has Big East and American separate, together they would have had 392.
But based on current alignment, ACC has the best collection of individual team history.
Championship wise, Pac-10 is #1 because of all those UCLA years, but ACC is behind by just 3. 11/29/2014 2:47:09 PM |
