this is so dumb -

Quote :
""I told him Jose needs to calm that down," Dyson said of his comments to Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion in the next at-bat after Bautista's blast, a confrontation that cleared the benches in the seventh inning of Toronto's 6-3 win. "Just kind of respect the game a little more.""

Quote :
""He's a huge role model for the younger generation that's coming up and playing this game," Dyson said of Bautista. "He's doing stuff that kids do in whiffle ball games and backyard baseball.

"It shouldn't be done.""

but but but, he wants to get mad when a guy is trying to stop drunks from throwing beer onto the field.

there are so many "unwritten rules" that the umps dont even know the real rules.

What's amazing is Greinke and Kershaw were mostly on-point for 4 games, 3 of the 4 biggest Mets bats (Cespedes, Duda, d'Arnaud) were silent outside of Game 3, and the Mets still pulled this out.

if we talked about baseball managers as coaches then that would have to be one of the worst coached games for the dodgers.

1. not covering 3rd on the walk.
2. why did the rf catch the pop up foul ball allowing the runner to tag. just let it drop and live for another pitch.

On #2, that's not really something a manager can coach a player on. He has 2-3 seconds of reaction time and probably does what he always does. You can say "think about the situation", but the ball got hit his way and he reacted instantaneously. And once it was clear it was foul he already had it in his head "catch the ball".

^right...that's easy to say in hindsight, but it was also a catch he had to make on the move, in an area of the field that has a a rather narrow foul territory. so it's not like it was a lazy foul pop.

There are different schools of thought, but my coaches always said when you can get an out, make it happen. You never know if the next pitch is going to be hit over the wall and then you're in a worse situations. I've seen it happen in MLB games too where an intentionally missed foul ball results in more base runners or a home run.

Also, it was early enough in the game and it was the tying run, not winning run. That had to be a factor.

The extra base was Greinke's fault. He could have called time as soon as he got the ball back and he didn't. In the post-game Murphy even said "If they had called time I would have looked like an idiot."

NLCS is a titties matchup. ALCS should be fun because both teams are a little snippy.

This so beats the shit out of something like St. Louis-Los Angeles. ALCS was going to be cool with me as soon as the Yankees got the boot.

Both teams jaw a lot and get their feathers ruffled easily. Things got pretty hot in August between the two already.

Ah, yeah I see that. I think both clubs have so many young players (and even older players who haven't been here before) that the adrenaline is super high.

The playoffs have been awesome so far. I'll be happy to see any of these teams win the WS including the Mets (I'm a Braves fan). Just nice to not see the Giants or Cards or Yankees/Red Sox for a change.

As is, I'm rooting for Cubs-Royals.

All I'm seeing are articles about Cubs "power hitting" vs Mets "power pitching," but I don't see it that way:

NL Batting Ranks, Post-All Star Break
BA: Mets #6, Cubs #9
Slugging: Mets #1, Cubs #4
HR: Mets #1, Cubs #2
Total Bases: Mets #1, Cubs #4

NL Pitching Ranks, Post-All Star Break
ERA: Mets #10, Cubs #14
K: Cubs #1, Mets #4
Shutouts: Cubs #1, Mets #6
BA Agains: Cubs #1, Mets #5

Looking at just the probable starting pitchers this series, I'd rank them:
#1 Arrieta
#2-#5 deGrom, Syndergaard, Harvey, Matz in almost any order
#6-#8 The rest of the Cubs

Pretty much the perfect Royals formula tonight. Dominant 6 innings from the starter, shutdown bullpen, solid hitting from the top and middle of the order.

Welp, that was an impressive game.

Price was lights out and we still scratched out a win with a lot of small ball. Once we got the lead the bullpen came in and locked it up like they have for the last 2 seasons.

I love our chances to advance at 2-0. I really thought we'd only get 1-1 out of these first two with Price pitching game 2.

I admit, I have been dead wrong about the mets. Murphy is probably the best player in either league so far this postseason.

GO ROYALS!

Bullpen has been the difference...that and small ball...Royals might sweep if these bats keep up.

Well that was fun while it lasted at least the Cubs should be built to keep this going for a few years at least. Murphy has been amazing and the pitching for the Mets has been on point. Cubs needed both wins out of Arietta in this series so unless the Cubs offense just goes bonkers or de Grom just has a terrible game this one is over.

I'm so glad Syndergaard was able to pitch at home. Huge difference in his numbers on the road. deGrom is the right person to go on the road, especially since Wrigley Field is much more of a hitter's park (Bleacher Report ranked Citi Field as #5 most pitcher-friendly, Wrigley #20)

Regular Season HR/Start:
deGrom .53
Harvey: .62
Matz .67 (only 6 games started)
Syndergaard .79

It works out pretty great that if Syndergaard is needed again, it will be at home.

Tulo getting tossed is a direct result of the way the Jays have been bitching about balls and strikes the ENTIRE postseason. They whine about balls and strikes a ton, Batista is probably the worst, but Tulo isn't far behind.

I think the ump had just had enough. It was a 10-4 or 11-4 game and he's still there chirping about a close pitch and then said something else while in the field between innings. I'd love to hear the audio from Hirschbeck's mic, but we won't get to.

Nice win for Toronto, really glad that KC didn't have to use more of their bullpen and also really glad they forced Toronto to put Osuna out there with a day game coming up tomorrow. I like our chances to win tomorrow especially as bad as Dickey has looked, but you never know how it will go with a knuckleballer.

hate these ticky-tack replay challenges where the foot is off the base for a split second. I get it, literal interpretation of a once understood rule. but it really hurts the game.

I have no problem with that. I'd rather they get the call correct than not. It forces some actual consistency from the umps. If they need to go back and rewrite the rule they can do that.

Lol at how excited the Cubs fans are that Murphy struck out. That's a great meter of how well you're doing that the other fans start to hate you that much.

And then Wright and Cespedes combine to put up a run, two guys who have needed to start hitting this series. If Granderson hadn't been caught stealing it would be 2-0...not really sure why they felt like sending him.

And then a miracle occurred because NL teams can't hit home runs, and Chicago tied it up with a solo shot.
