The Mets, Dodgers, and Cardinals can be lumped in with that group, but you're right. This was also predicted by every MLB writer/pundit with so many NL teams following the Cubs/Astros/NBA tanking for future success strategy.

The Sox have stuck with their tried and true "buy leftover players from a garage sale and hope it works".

This is a great way to see how teams are trending: https://erikberg.com/mlb/charts

The Dodgers and Mets are currently climbing, but the Cardinals have been stagnant. Pirates can easily leapfrog them soon. The Giants are the most impressive NL team right now, since the Cubs peaked a couple of weeks ago and are starting to come back down to earth. The Giants didn't start rising until mid-May while the Cubs have been up since day 1, and yet the Giants are practically in the same position (21 wins over .500 vs the Cubs 22).

No Mets players had an appearance in the all-star game. Really sucks for Terry Collins to not have Cespedes or Syndergaard at full health moving forward in the season, but why didn't Bartolo Colon pitch? Probably was his last chance.

^ hot dog story is awesome.

This might be the most boring baseball season I can remember and I'm a baseball fan. Maybe I'm jaded as a Braves fan, but I haven't really cared about anything happening other than Odor punching Batista MMA style and the Cubs playing amazing ball for the first 6 weeks or so.

Chris Sale was pulled from his start tonight...not because he's being traded as rumored....but....

"Not a joke. Source says Sale blowup was because he didn't want to wear throwbacks, so he cut the jerseys up so no one could wear them. @stokketommy"

^ Just got back from that game. They were wearing 83 unis and the scoreboard had 77 (original planned uni) facts with pictures from the players wearing the 77 jerseys too. This is fucking bizarre. Trade that redneck now.

He is probably pissed from his last start when he was pulled after 8 with a 1-hitter against Seattle and then Robertson proceeds to implode the save and yank another win from him.

Not really. That's a popular narrative though.

Torres is the only real value leaving the Cubs and Addison Russell plays the same position, is in the same age bracket, and is already an MLB All-Star. Hell, the Yankees will be ecstatic if Torres ends up being as good as the Cubs' Javy Baez, who is basically Russell's backup.

Great trade for both teams. The Yankees really aren't much different without Chapman because Miller/Betances are so nasty.

Russell is definitely a Cub. Not sure if he's really all-star caliber; he's hitting .249 with a <.800 OPS.

Trea is putting up ridiculous numbers so far. Hit another triple last night for his 6th of the year in only 127 ABs. Cesar Hernandez is leading the majors with 9 in 405 ABs. He's also got a stolen base for more than a third of the times he's reached first or second.

The NL wild card race is already a good one, but if the Cardinals beat the Giants today there will be a 3-way tie plus Miami only 3.5 back with 16 games to go.

Fernandez was one of my favorite pitchers to watch. Just filthy when he was locked in. Really sucks for his family and the Marlins. Dude had a LONG career ahead of him and was on a HOF track if he stayed healthy.

Bump for the playoffs (late bump).

I'm on the Cubs/Indians bandwagon in hopes one breaks their curse this year. Very glad to see the fucking Giants eliminated. Screw those guys. I'll root for the Nats too if they end up playing the Jays in the WS since Trea is a big part of their success.

So glad the fucking Giants lost. Traffic coming home from work was eerily silent- hopefully because all those bastard Giants fans jumped off the Bay Bridge Pulling for either the Cubs or Nats. Don't give a shit about any of the AL teams this season, but if the Jays won I wouldn't really mind.

Sucks for Trea. Go Cubs. Also lol at people saying Kershaw has solved his playoff issues. Dude still had a 5-plus ERA in that series. Yeah he pitched pretty well in game 4, but he left with base loaded and everyone scored.

Also Dusty Baker should get heat for taking out Scherzer after he gave up the HR to start the 7th. Scherzer was working on a gem, was at 99 pitches which is nothing for that guy, and is supposed to be your stud. He made one mistake, game was tied. Stupid decision that blew up in his face.

Hypotheticals are hypothetical, but I think the Mets would have beaten any other stater than Bumgarner, even if Syndergaard didn't start. They would have won a 3 game series if that was the WC format. And not sure they would have won a series with the Cubs, but I think they push it to 6 or 7 games.

Giants shouldn't have even been there as shitty as their 2nd half was.

I know I'm just being salty, but the Mets were pretty fantastic down the stretch and I'm looking forward to next season with hopefully healthy pitching (and please please please to have Cespedes back)

Amazing game tonight, Cubs-Dodgers. I didn't like the way Maddon used his bullpen. He should have let Lester go one more inning. Montero with a legendary HR that will forever be in Cubs lore. He bailed out both Maddon and Chapman.
