i hate it when little douche wins but kansas was good for a down force race. also, burn outs are cool and all but when they destroy the rear of the car it makes me think they are hiding something back there

all star race rules will bring some drama for a change:

Segment 1 (50 laps): Field set determined by qualifying, mandatory green-flag pit stop for a minimum of two tires;
· Break 1 (3-5 minutes): Mandatory pit stop with a minimum two-tire change before Segment 2;
· Segment 2 (50 laps): Field set determined by pit-road exit, one mandatory green-flag pit stop for a minimum of two tires before lap 85;
· Break 2 (3-5 minutes): Random draw to decide whether the top nine, 10 or 11 cars must enter pit road for a mandatory four-tire pit stop, pit road closed for all other cars, pit-road exit determines Segment 3 starting order, cars leaving pit road line up behind cars that did not pit;
· Segment 3 (13 laps): Only green-flag laps count (NASCAR Overtime procedures apply).

Goofy rules about how many tires you have to change under green before lap 47 of a 50 lap segment while you Pat your head and rub your tummy on the third Saturday of every other month but only during leap years. Good lord let's just race. I wanna go fast.

From another message board:

Quote :
"IMHO, the shrewdest move of the race came from Kyle Busch & crew.

Remember the pit lane speeding penalty he got near the end of segment 2? They planned that!

I always listen to Kyle on the scanner and was confused by this exchange over the radio just before that stop:

Kyle - How does McDonald's sound about now?
Crew - A take-out order sounds real good about now.

After the stop:

Crew - Race control says you were speeding in section 1 and have to serve a drive through.
Kyle - Imagine that!

"McDonald's" was a code for taking a drive through penalty!

They got fuel, tires and managed to stay on the lead lap after serving the penalty (13th place). With that 11 place inversion cluster, they started the last segment near the front. A brilliant piece of strategy that almost worked! "

I think the guys in the booth even mentioned that maybe the penalty was planned. Then they kinda laughed it off as a joke.

Brad keselowski came up with these rules with nascar. It seems like they had one 2 hour meeting and was like, "ok, that'll work, see ya Saturday night." Complete cluster. The cars are so much racier now that the crazy stupid changes aren't necessary.

crazy how dumb nascar was not to have a plan for the kenseth not pitting under green scenario. all they had to do is allow those cars trapped a lap down to wave around before the segment pit stops

the solution for all star race is so simple. keep 50-50-13 but make pitting OPTIONAL through out whole event. that way some there will be old tires at front of last segment. make crew chiefs earn it.

Notes:

-no Penskes or Ganassis on the front row, with the best Ganassi car being Dixon in 13th
-Honda I think snookered Chevy and Indycar here, they've been down on speed/horsepower for the past year and change but it looks they've caught up
-Pagenaud has dominated the season thus far, with 2 runners-up finishes and 3 wins, Chevys have all the wins in the 5 races
-Matt Brabham is Sir Jack Brabham's grandson and Geoff's son, that makes the Brabhams the third 3rd-generation Indy drivers after the Andrettis (1969 winner Mario, Michael, Marco) and the Vukoviches (1953 and 1954 winner Billy, Billy Jr., Billy III)
-Stefan Wilson is the younger brother of Justin Wilson, F1 and Indycar veteran who died this past year.
-Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee is sponsoring Conor Daly's car with a new foundation he setup in less than a week. https://www.facebook.com/colts/videos/10154721964730110/
-drivers with incidents this past week were Pigot, Chilton, Mann, and Tagliani
-the race is legit sold out for all its seating at around 250,000 people, this will be the 11th 500 I'll attend with the first in 2001 and it's never sold out in that time (you can still get a general admission ticket and party and get drunk in the infield)

I don't get why a driver is creating rules for events? I thought it was funny how he defended it and thought it was great. Nothing wrong with driver input for sure, but common. What happened wasn't that crazy either, someone should have thought about that as a possibility.

At this point Nascar seems like a crappy video game that was released too early and they just keep trying to patch and update it but can't get it right. To many rule changes, tweaking the system too often, trying too hard to artificially make races exciting, should be a simple sport, drive in a circle more than the other guy.

The NFL constantly changes rules too.

The rules for the all-star race were ridiculous, but they always screw with the format for that race.

ever since the owners formed a union we are seeing a kinder gentler nascar. plus, they had to do something. the old format sucked and now that it bombed all the fans can blame BK and not them.

^^ It is one thing to tweak and adjust. Nascar has made drastic changes to the sport almost consistently the pass 10 years or so. The chase has changed almost every year since it started in some significant way.

they never showed a replay but when i saw it live it looked like larSON had race won but on last turn slid it sideways on purpose and lost crap load of spots. the reason he would do that is cause he had outlaw kart qualifying races to get to in salisbury last night and didnt want to stick around for podium photos

Watched it this morning. Super dominant win for Truex, led 392 out of 400 laps. Best race ever in the history of Furniture Row Racing.

Attended Indy yesterday. It was super packed. Most fans that have attended I've seen easily and this was my 11th race.

-Hunter-Reay had to be furious last night from his pit lane incident taking him out. He had the best car yesterday in my opinion.
-Turned to the person next to me with 5-6 to go and said "I have no idea who's going to win." I was thinking it was too long for anyone to attempt to make it on fuel mileage.
-I was at the entrance to turn 3 and Rossi on lap 199 backed way off the throttle right there. I thought for sure he'd ran out of fuel but he was able to do the last lap and a half. Very surprising winner. Rossi is driving in Indycar this year because he got passed over by Manor and Haas for F1 drives. It was pretty much a last minute deal with Bryan Herta and Michael Andretti putting him in the car. I suspect he'll be in a Haas F1 car in 2017 now. If he's not, Haas' "American Formula One team" marketing is all bullcrap.
-I was hoping for Newgarden to win. From Tennessee, would've been a great winner. Thought he had it.
-Penske and Ganassi had really bad days yesterday.

It's cool if everyone is facing the fuel mileage. It's lame if a car that hasn't even cracked the top 10 all day wins the race by cutting his car off for the last half lap basically

That's such a dumbass point of view.

Goal is to make it to the finish line first. If you don't think fuel mileage should play a role, why do you watch any race longer than a hundred miles?

I didn't say it shouldn't play a role. I'm just saying I think it's lame, especially when it happens way more than it used to because they put tiny fuel tanks in the cars. I like to see drivers push the limit. Y'all like to see them drive like hypermilers. That's cool. To each his own.

Mike Wallace and his daughter Lindsey were beaten by three men in the parking lot of PNC music pavilion in Charlotte after a concert this weekend. Pretty awful story. I actually grew up and graduated with Lindsey. These guys actually fled in their company truck afterwards and it's been reported they've been involved in two other beatings like this already this summer.
