I feel like we're long past the point of there being any hope of this generating any kind of revenue, so I'm not sure what the big deal is about posting how much it costs to keep this place running. I mean I kinda feel like we all own it. Especially now that I'm getting ready to get a premie membership (it's been a while, a long while, since I've been premie).

as i've noted many times, yes there are many more affordable hosting options out there. rewriting the software and migrating to a new server is more time than I'm currently willing to put in to make that change given where we have been in tww's lifecycle. I may be motivated to revisit this issue later in the year if there's enough people who want tww to stick around. but as I also mentioned, for the purposes of this thread I'm not interested in discussing whether or not there are ways to make tww hosting cheaper. I know there are. I'm just not willing to spend my time (aka more of my money) doing it if there are reasonable alternatives (some of y'all chipping in roughly $2/mo to cover some of the costs). to say it another way, I'm not going to spend $10k to save $1k

server hosting to run the entire site is a fixed cost. removing features won't make any impact on cost. that said, if at some point I move to a cheaper hosting solution, i'll probably disable photo galleries

^ i'm just trying to make it easy for people to participate by leveraging existing features. if anybody is willing to chip in more than $25/year you're welcome to do so. If you want to contribute but don't want to use paypal to subscribe to premie or to buy ads, let me know and I'll figure out another solution with you.

Every useful thread in this place has been fucked up by him in some way. I know I'm not a TWW MVP, and I have tendencies to be a dick around here, but nothing to the extent that Earl does. He single-handedly killed Sports Talk, with honorable mention going to Jibbles. Now he's trying to fuck up the bitcoin thread in Tech Talk, as well as dicking around in The Soap Box. He's a troll.
