Im pretty sure that's gonna join unc and some other games I'm forgetting as one of the most embarrassing losses in the last 5 years. Wouldn't be surprised if Wake doesn't win another game

We didn’t foul on purpose, though. Plan was to not foul at all. Basically worked - forced a missed shot. But they called a foul.

We played like ass. We got close and then took bad shots. Porous defense, no rhythm on O for like 35 mins of the game, too many silly open court fouls. We had no answer for the zone. Frustrating as hell

Of course PG matters. Although getting down 22 to Wake isn’t solely due to no Markell. We were awful in every facet of the game. Markell wouldn’t have solved that.

Back to reality, I guess. But reality is...we’re still a pretty good team.

Also "we lost partially bc we missed a ton of layups in the first half" is annoying once, a worrying trend twice

Probably best to see how things shake out over the next couple games and see if we can get back in a rhythm. Maybe I’m being too optimistic and am wrong. We’re not too 15, obviously. But I kinda think we can still totally be a top 30 team. Again...probably best to revisit that once we get a little distance from this game. It is very worrying to dig ourselves massive holes and have to fight back. UNC, Miami, Wake...can’t afford to keep getting down big.

Also separately, it’s frustrating that we don’t get to the line more. And that isn’t a complaint about refs...just wish we’d be more aggressive when we drive. Even when we do drive we shoot floaters and runners (Daniels especially) where you don’t draw much contact.

One of our biggest problems is we don't have many playmakers (only Markell??) but we have lots of guys that think they are playmakers.

Yea I get the idea, and I understand trusting your defense, but the way our offense played tonight, seems like we needed to maximize our chances. This didn't seem like the night to have to get 2 pts in 13 seconds

Definitely. Markell is our only go to guy, and even then...some of the shots he takes aren’t great. But when he’s hot, they’re awesome. I don’t trust Daniels at all. Dorn didn’t look good late tonight - just looked too timid in the last minute or two. Feel like Bryce could be that role but he hasn’t proven it yet. He’s not been aggressive enough imo. And Daniels has been too aggressive.

^oh I gotcha. Yeah I don’t disagree. Extend the game. Put the pressure on the weaker team, maybe they get in their own heads and fuck up. I would have been fine with that strategy

I know, I just have no confidence that Wake can end up anywhere but a bad loss but we'll have to let the season play out.

In the grand scheme of things it seems like 50% of our starters played in DII so the talent difference is showing in ACC play.

I hope we're not fool's gold. We were down in literally every single ACC thus far and was down double digits by UNC and LOL down 20 points to freaking Wake Forest at one point. If we're not hitting a high percentage of 3s we're susceptible to getting blown out.

Pathetic to lose to Wake Forest. The only person that did anything in the 1st half was Dorn. I knew Markell was the man but didn’t know he made such a huge difference. Our last three games have been very average after we got up into the top 15. I agree with earlier poster, maybe we are more like top 30.

Have to teach this team to play against the zone. Walker was wide open in the middle of the 2-3 over and over again but out guards kept dribbling to one side of the defense and passing the ball four feet to a spot where the defense was already in position to keep defending.

HAVE to learn to play against a zone. Pitt did it, and now Wake did it, and we went cold both times.

Wake lost to Houston Baptist and Gardner Webb at home, and I'm not sure with a more friendly crowds present. Also If Wake has that much of a home court advantage, that just means they are even more terrible then I thought.

Wake has no home court advantage with respect to their fans. In the last 5+ years I've lived here in W-S, I've seen most of the FB/BB games here. There are always a significant number of Wolfpack fans that sometimes outnumber WF (like last night). They barely had a student section last night, which encompasses one or two sections in a corner. The rest of the fans are very passive. I think NC State must get rattled because of how quiet WF fans in LJVM or BB&T Field can be.

I mean it's partially bc of Keatts scheduling. We can't afford bad losses. This loss just makes a thin margin of error even more thin. Our NET has looked good but they have said over and over they are going to look at quadrants still. By that metric we are 7-3 with a good win and a bad loss.
