I'm not sure what I'm going to do today. I'm tempted to have a whatever workout and just screw around.

I worked out at a gym in Maryland today, and the atmosphere at that Gold's was completely different than my normal gym. The equipment wasn't nearly as nice, but the crowd there was comprised of a lot more bodybuilders and serious lifters. It was a welcome change.

An unwelcome change was when I didn't realize that the dumbbells had the knurling worn off of them and almost dropped one when doing flyes. That could have been really bad for both me and the person beside me.

That depends on if you push yourself when you work out, or if you're one of those people who shows up, does 20 minutes of work in an hour, and wonders why you're not getting any bigger.

that's not what the article said at all, and it's incorrect based on the findings of the article. they didn't say lifting weights with the intensity of cardio made it as effective; the article claimed that an increase in type II muscle fibers caused the health benefit. HIT training or other low volume programs would be just as effective as a high volume program that causes muscle growth, even though they require nowhere close to as much caloric expenditure as cardio.

However, his point about pushing yourself still rings true. I don't think he was intending on mentally referencing any specific training style.

you don't have to work out at an incredible pace in order to make gains though, which is what he was implying. The success of a program doesn't hinge on how fast you move through it.

i have bronchitis so i haven't worked out in a week. and it might take another week or so to completely clear up. i was feeling sad about missing the gym, so i decided to take the stairs in my parking deck today. bad bad bad idea to do things that require breathing, when you cannot breathe. bronchitis ftl

The way i read it is that in the second part, he is countering the former statement w/ someone who goes in and dicks around for 20 minutes. You know the type, a few sets of ugly benching, some curls, and leaves.

That's just the way I read it.

There's nothing wrong with a 20 minute workout if you can make gains with it. What might look like dicking around with weights to other people might be a highly structured program such as what Dorian Yates and Mike Mentzer were famous for.

On the other hand, the guys that come in the gym and do 20+ working sets per session every day never seem to get any bigger. I can't count on both hands how many people at my gym fall into that category.

I still can't decide what is going on here. My nose is running, but it's clear. Otherwise I feel fine. I think my allergy meds have decided to protest. I think it's time to use a nasal spray.
