awesome win, well utter payback against ATL last night.

^ thanks for the quick break down Vulcan. And we only have 18 more? I thought it was 19. Then again I can't add.

Tkachuk to the Thrashers in exchange for a first and third in the 07 draft, a second in the 08 draft, and Glen Metropolit.

It seems that all of the quotes from GMs in the past few weeks saying "the price is just too high" were not overstated.

damn, Tkachuk for that much? That's more than what we paid for Doug Weight last year.

Jesus seems to me that Atlanta got hosed. I mean, the three draft picks alone are a pretty insane price for fatass Tkachuk, but then you throw in Metropolit, who is their top scoring center this season, and I have to wonder what Waddell was thinking.

I'm going to laugh my ass off if Atlanta ends up missing the playoffs.

^If they keep up their losing way, they're missing the playoffs for sure. I still don't see how these trades help them. The Zhetnik trade makes more sense to me.

The Zhitnik trade makes NO sense. "Let's trade our future franchise defenseman for an old puck-mover who can hardly even do that any more."

At least when the Canes decided to deal JJ, they got a quality YOUNG defenseman in return. TIMMAH FTW!

Waddell has lost it. I should of known this when I saw him wearing a short sleeved turtleneck last october.

I think Waddell is trying to save his job. If the thrashers don't make the playoffs this season, he's gone.

Did Waddell not see that Zhitnik was traded for Freddy Meyer this year. Coburn is a blue chipper and Meyer is a 5 or 6 d man. Not to mention he possibly traded away 2 first rounders, so there isn't a real way to replenish the farm. As VinylBandit said, this makes NO sense.

also, Carter has 27 pts and was worth a 5th rounder, Zhitnik has 23 pts and was worth a Franchise D man

I think Atlanta is just pushing the panic button. It's no secret that they haven't been able to gain the amount of fan support they've hoped for in Atlanta, but no big deal, that probably isn't going to come until they make the playoffs. Everything was looking up this year; they were rolling towards a division title, in good position to grab the 2nd seed in the East, and headed for the playoffs for the first time. Now the wheels are starting to come off, and they are desperately trying whatever they can to fix things so they can get into the playoffs and get that exposure that comes with it. Problem is they seem to be sacrificing their future for what I expect will be an early round exit.

Well, no worry for Kevyn Adams ending up with the Sabres or another East team, and at the same time no chance of him returning to the Canes as a free agent this offseason.

He has signed a 1 year extension with Phoenix.

I had hoped we would unload Tanabe while his stock is somewhat high, and then bring Babchuk back up so he can watch from the pressbox every night, but oh well. The good news is the Lightning didn't make any earth-shattering moves, and I still don't think Atlanta is in very good shape, so the division title is still well within reach.

The playoff bubble just got a lot tougher though with the Isles and Leafs making it clear that they plan on getting in.

Yea Tanabe has actually been looking good lately (even though I hate him with a passion). Too bad we didn't unload him like ya said Vulcan91. We coulda gotten someone pretty good I think...at least bring Babchuck back :-/

Hopefully Carter will get comfortable fast and really help out during the stretch. I doubt it will take long considering he's used to it by now, haha.

That was utter shit. I hope the ice was bad or something tonight, because neither team could complete a pass and guys were falling down like it was junior league. Ottawa really didn't look very good, but Carolina looked much much worse. Graham had some good saves, though, and Carter didn't look too bad.

That third period was absolutely horrible. We played very well in the 1st and 2nd, then it looked like we stopped caring in the 3rd. We played almost the whole period down in our own end of the ice and couldn't get it past the center line without icing it. I hope we figure out how to play a full game because if we keep playing like this our team will be watching the playoffs on TV.

Wow. Emery was solid in net in the first 2, but the last period he was unstoppable. How many power play chances did they squander? 6? So many chances but the Sens just dominated the Canes.

As shitty and inconsistent as they have been playing, I still feel like they should be able to beat out Montreal and Toronto for at least the 8th spot.

The Devils missed the playoffs after winning the Cup in '95.

I'm not counting out the Canes yet, but we all know what happened with the Devils after that.

No, the canes aren't out of it yet, but with so many teams with momentum it's going to be a hard fight to make the playoffs.

But, if Atlanta and Tampa Bay fumble and we do well, we could still place 3rd in the conference. There's still plenty of games left.
