^haven't had that happen yet, just make sure to watch the tasks while you're multitasking. I'm able to wirelessly listen to music, browse the web with multiple tabs, IM, and various other things all at the same time. Trying to upgrade to 6.1, so hopefully that won't brick my phone. Supposed to speed everything up.

blackberrys dont have 3G either... the problem isn't the 3G support its the lack of a software solution to accomplish the tethering that you describe.

as far as using it in the car..trust me you get used to it, i never thought i would either but now i can type without really even looking at it thanks to the spell check that is better than any other spell check i've ever used on a phone

i'm assuming a treo? i had one of them + pda.net for a while and i agree it's a great setup in places with 3G. I wish 3G weren't so limited in coverage though.

can i type 100% perfect all the time without glancing at the screen occasionally? no... but I can glance at it every few words while typing with one hand. that's about the best you can expect from an all touch screen phone, imo

^got a pantech duo w/ windows mobile 6, and pdaNET works GREAT. Has a qwerty slider, AND a numeric pad slider. Just need to get a laptop w/ bluetooth now so i can have a wireless modem.

Just bought two of these. Supposedly it adds tactile response to your keyboard without hindering the touchscreen or the viewing. It's probably a piece of crap but the youtube video makes it look halfway decent and it's only $8 for 2 of them.

2.0 might bring some form of exchange support (though i doubt it will be anywhere as good as RIMs), but i don't see it adding an actual keyboard or full domino support.

tnezami I'd recommend a blackberry over an iPhone for enterprise applications. I love my iPhone but a blackberry is just better suited for corporate email environments.

I got my mom and iPhone and was wondering how you guys transfered your contacts from a previous att phone to the iphone?

when you try to send the address book via bluetooth, it doesn't accept it on the iphone.
I read online that you have to go to a att store and they will transfer it on to a flash drive and you can convert the file online and send it that way?

secondly, did any of you sync road runner email with your iphone?
I selected Pop email, and then entered in the following info and it says, "Cannot Connect Using SSL" and asks if i want to try without it, ive tried yes and no, and neither works.

Incoming mail server (POP): pop-server.nc.rr.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp-server.nc.rr.com

any suggestions?

Works fine on my roadrunner business account... I don't remember having do anything out of the ordinary. Personally I'd just have it fwd to a gmail account that supports IMAP, way more convenient than POP... and less problems from google in my experience.



As far as transferring contacts.. I was syncing my old phone with Outlook and the iPhone syncs fine with Outlook so all my contacts went right in no problem. What kind of phone did you use to have? If you have any type of data cable or bluetooth on your computer see if you can send it to your computer and import it in outlook. Sync iphone and select to sync contacts with outlook, it'll ask whether to merge new and old contacts or replace--I always use merge.

Im reading online that many people are having issues with road runner email, some people are saying that road runner has a different outgoing server address for iphones?

Might have to call up apple and figure this out

Everything I'm reading says that they have no problems sending on a wireless router that uses roadrunner but some are having trouble over EDGE... It is possible RR won't let you use their outgoing email servers unless you are accessing the internet through them. I highly doubt RR had a separate server just for iPhones--a separate server for people sending from outside of their network, maybe.

to send mail using edge you have to use at&t's smtp server cwmx.com set as the smtp server. iirc you won't be able to send mail over wi-fi if you use this setting, but thats the trade off for sending mail over edge. if i'm wrong on that somebody let me know

for the address book the only thing you'll be able to do is to sync the samsung phone with outlook, then sync your iphone with outlook. i'm sure theres some samsung program which will sync the phones contacts with outlook, just do some research and find it.

i was able to get my sister's iphone working with her road runner email...but i remember there was some hang up and it took me like an hour for some reason. i think i just kept trying it and it finally worked. here's some threads on it that it doesn't sound like you've seen yet:

A lot of people are claiming they've used RR's server over EDGE fine... but you could be correct. I personally have sent mail fine on both wifi and edge over roadrunners BUSINESS class servers, I am not sure of the security policies of the residential servers though.

the 8300 also accepts a sim card, and comes unlocked...in fact the two bands it does is 900/1800 which are the bands you'll want for travelling overseas.

Well I just got an iPhone, and I dont have the best luck when it comes to dropping phones so I need to get a case. I like the 'Incase' slip on cover, but i refuse to pay $33 at best buy for a freaking phone condom without a screen protecter.

i got the incase hard plastic one...called a slider. great case. and any decent quality case is gonna be $30+

you can get the silicone ones for $10 or less if you don't mind that tho. i couldnt stand them, cant slide it in/out of your pocket easily

they didnt put it in originally because a. they didnt have a way of doing it that didnt destroy the phones battery life (or so they say) and b. because now they can sell all the apple people the same phone twice.. apple always does this
