ACC Recruiting Breakdown
http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=2&c=726462

Quote :
"NC State
Headliners: Mike Glennon (QB), Terrell Manning (LB)
Now that Tom O’Brien has had one year to recruit under his belt you can see the Wolfpack are going to be very good in terms of recruiting. This is a great start under the O’Brien regime led by quarterback Mike Glennon. He has excellent size, a big arm and can make all the throws. Glennon has a chance to develop into a fine quarterback in Raleigh. What position will Brandon Barnes end up playing for N.C. State? He could be a star on either side of the ball at running back or safety. The Wolfpack are bringing in some beef up from with five offensive line prospects, led by one of the top tackles in the south in R.J. Mattes. N.C. State is looking for quick results on the defensive front by signing three JuCo transfers and Kyle Linney from Prep School. They are going to bring in one of the top linebacker corps with Terrell Manning, Dwayne Maddox, William Beasley, and Sterling Lucas.
NC State is still waiting on: Leon Mackey (DE)
The big fish that got away: Nick Becton "

Yea, that was a BIG fish that got away. If we had him too, man, our Oline would be set for the next few years.

Just about everywhere... Most people hear VT, some even say UNC now, but no one is expecting us, including the coaching staff

And per packpride, Mackey will announce before 11.

I think Colby Jackson is going to be the surprise fan-favorite in this class. He is a solid player but his biggest attribute is his heart and from what I've read is huge. Can't wait for him to get healthy and get in there and open up some holes for our RB's, haha.

Yeah I believe he tore his ACL the same weekend that Terrell Manning did, so they both have injuries to overcome. I think they'll both red-shirt but they'll both be major contributors in '09.

you talking about sam jones?

he's been so positive about state in his recruitment, though, that i'd be really surprised.

i really hate that dwayne allen isn't a part of this class, though.

What happens, though, if you gamble on getting some big recruits and you whiff on them? Gotta settle for who's left? I mean, that has to blow. I'm thinking in terms of UNC. Looking at their "Who they're waiting on" list, it's pretty damned long. They already lost EJAW.

^^ It seems Butch is in love w/ highly rated skills players. Do yall have a bunch of O-Linemen returning or something? And even if you do, I don't remember that being a strength of your team last year. I mean, as State fans, we all know what good skills players and no blockers will get you...

^ a four * Linebacker for them I think. Or is it safety?

Yeah, we have lots of depth on the OL this season but that will definitely be a priority for next year's class.

Brown is a 4* OLB but could possibly play safety in college. Hope I'm wrong about him switching back to MD.

BTW, Mackey just announced for VT a few minutes ago.

V Eh, I'm just paranoid about him. His dad and coach have been pushing him to Maryland but his mom wants him down south because she lives in SC.

they just picked up RB Joseph Adams from USC

Haven't been keeping up, but just browsed the Tar Pit...and it says that UNC might have 11 4-star players in this class?? How many of those did they pick up today/this weekend??

That's pretty bad-ass. I was definitely thinking they might struggle putting all their eggs in the signing day basket, but it looks like I was wrong.

Anyone who has been following this closer than I was care to offer an opinion? Will they (on paper) end up with a better class than us?

Don't worry about Sam Jones, supposedly he announced for State earlier today at their presser and the paperwork is being signed and stuff now. Which is great news.

^I think they potentially could have gotten that many but they've already missed on 2-3, I don't think Dwight Jones will sign with them today, and from what I've read Coples won't qualify so he won't be there next year regardless of signing today. So that's 5 of those 14 right there.

they are going to get some good players and so are we. I'm sure the Tarheel fans wouldn't trade their class for ours and I know we wouldn't trade ours for theirs.

UNC will always get theirs... you could have Adolf Hitler coaching there and kids would come play there.

They didnt get Adams and Abrams-Ward like they thought. To my knowledge, they haven't gotten any big 'surprises' yet today.

If you base it on stars, they have a good class. If you ask me...as bad as they were and having 19-20 scholarships available, you can't only sign 11 players. They also didn't really go for need it seems, they went for talent. For a successful class, they need to fill needs and sign 22-24 players (Taking into acct for academic casualties... which are never a problem at UNC: See Dwight Jones and Aleric Mullins)

I'd take our class anyday, becuase we recruited our weak positions

it seems to me all the NC players who went to Tennessee turned out to be busts. The only exception is possibly Heath Shuler.

I think UNC has nine 4* recruits right now not including Dwight Jones since he's not signing an LOI unless he qualifies. Today, we picked up Robert Quinn, Quinton Coples, Christian Wilson, and Herman Davison, even though he's not publicly announcing until 9:30 this evening.

I'm not sure which class will be rated higher right now. State's class has more quantity but UNC's is higher quality. We'll see once the numbers are crunched.

The large majority of us had given up on Adams long ago and word leaked last night that Abrams-Ward was going to pick UT. I wasn't really surprised with either.

We only have 17 ships available and our class is gonna be 17 not including Dwight Jones. Casey Barth is walking on and will be on scholarship starting in 2009. We are terribly thin at DE and we signed 3 players at that position. We also shored up our linebacking core with some serious talent. We needed a stud running back and we got Womble. We absolutely addressed our needs.
