Somebody should embed the Calvin/Debbie Yow video from http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/2/1168608.html

Debbie sees Leslie in the hall about to give her postgame interview and Calvin walks by, she grabs him, hugs him twice and cries, it damn near put a tear in my eye. You see stuff like that and you can't help but think he's staying.

Mock Draft 1.0 from ESPN has him at #25 to Orlando:

Quote :
"#25 Orlando

C.J. Leslie
Position: PF
Height: 6-foot-8
Weight: 206 pounds
Age: 20
School: NC State

Analysis: Leslie may be one of the best athletes in the draft. He's still stuck a little bit between the 3 and the 4, but his game has really matured over the past few months. He's a top-10 talent and worth the risk here.

That isn't lottery money CJ. We all know after another year you'll get paid what you're worth.

everybody thought CJ was gone when he decommited to open up his recruitment his senior year... he recommited

everybody thought CJ was going to transfer when Coach Lowe was gone... he stayed and gave Coach Gottfried a chance

everybody is talking now like they think CJ is going to jump early to the draft when he himself hasn't said anything about it. don't get so worried.

His ballhandling and jump shot aren't going to improve any over the next couple games (and between now and the Chicago Draft camp).

If he improves both of those just incrementally, he'll vault into the lottery. Right now he's still a fringe first rounder.

fringe first rounder is enough for some people.

Here's to hoping his draft stock skyrockets and he leaves for the NBA...all because he completely explodes over the next 4 games, averaging 25pts, 12 rebs, and 5 blks while leading us to a National Title.

FWIW, Sunday night someone asked him if he was coming back next season, and he smiled real big and gave an emphatic nod.

But what would you expect him to say? Fuck no, I'm gettin paid?

[quote]N.C. State AD Debbie Yow, star C.J. Leslie, bask in success together

By Bret Strelow
Staff writer

RALEIGH - The first hug lasted three seconds but seemed longer. They separated and continued smiling at each other, with Debbie Yow repeatedly telling C.J. Leslie that she was proud of him.

They hugged again, this time for twice as long, the 61-year-old athletic director's cheek pressed against the giant tattoo on the N.C. State sophomore's right shoulder. There was pure joy on his face. She was near tears.

They've sure come a long way since Leslie's refusal to eat a turkey sandwich started the friendship off on a strange note.

The Wolfpack remains alive in the NCAA tournament, preparing to play Kansas in a St. Louis Regional semifinal, thanks to its 66-63 upset of Georgetown in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday. Afterward, a television camera recorded the indelible image of Leslie and Yow, both lightning rods for criticism, sharing an emotional embrace in a Nationwide Arena tunnel.

Leslie has faced plenty of adversity at N.C. State, from dealing with various suspensions to handling the constant questioning of his maturity and effort. Yow earned his trust by continuing to support him through times good and bad.

"I think he has an innate sense of how much I care about him as a person," Yow said.

N.C. State hired Yow in June of 2010, and she met Leslie for lunch the day he arrived for summer school as a freshman. Yow discussed something she deemed "not a huge issue, a small question mark" with Leslie, and she wanted him to start college on the right foot.

She ordered food from Subway, bringing in turkey subs, chips and cookies. There was one problem.

"Turkey, I thought that sounded like a guy's sandwich," Yow said. "He said, 'I don't eat Subway.' It was hilarious."

Apparently, the greener the food, the less it appeals to Leslie. Yow joked that he had no choice but to eat the chips and his cookie.

"I'm not going to say I'm not down with Subway," Leslie said Tuesday, laughing at the memory. "This is the problem: I don't like vegetables, as far as tomatoes, lettuce and all of that. I'll take the meat. The meat and the bread, I'll take that, but I'm not down with the vegetables. When you put all that mayonnaise on there, I can't eat all that."

Two years later, there's Leslie, patting Yow on the back and flashing a giant grin while they hug following an NCAA tournament win. It's not the first time it's happened this season; they shared a similar moment after N.C. State beat Texas in New Jersey.

But the emotions were running extra high Sunday.

"She definitely cares about her players, cares about the best thing for us," Leslie said. "She asks questions, and she makes sure we're happy. That's the main thing. Anytime a person tries to make sure you're happy, as long as they're putting a step forward, you can't ask for anything else."[quote]

Can't force it TOO much with CJL tomorrow night.

Love to see a 34 minutes, 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 5/10 FG, 4/6 FT, 2 turnover type of game.

Got to play under control and draw contact rather than getting blocked or settling for jumpers.

If he takes it all the way to the basket without drawing contact he will get his shit packed and we will lose.

If he settles for jumpers he will miss and we will lose.

I am explaining that he must draw fouls and he must play under control. That's kinda important.

This isn't San Diego State. He isn't going to dropstep dunk on everyone. These are exactly the kind of games where CJL usually struggles.

^, ^^ true. we lost that game because ZoBo just couldn't get anything to drop and we decided not to guard Kendall marshall so that he could make every shot and still get easy assists.

So in four games against Henson, Leslie has played well once.

Leslie driving against Robinson with Withey lurking on the backside is a recipe for trouble. Hopefully he can go draw fouls and/or pass out of double teams. But if we want to beat Kansas, we will have to shoot well from outside and play solid D. We aren't gonna get easy baskets in the paint.

Keys to game:

-Play solid D
-Attack the net early to get their bigs in foul trouble
-Get out and run on them for easy buckets
-Scott Wood showing up
