I hate to question his effort because you never really know for sure, but Peppers probably gave us 75-80 percent his last few years here. It was pretty obvious to anyone watching, so I'm sure that played just as big a factor as his actual stats in the contract negotiations.
7/26/2011 10:21:13 PM
Ernie liked his late hit on Rodgers(as a Panther a few years back, not referring to anything he did as a Bear)]
7/26/2011 10:23:24 PM
It was a pretty impressive season for him though. No Peppers to command attention, no tackle help to speak of and Brayton on the other side. He was all alone out there and came back with 11.5 sacks. Now, given our division quarterbacks, defensive end was probably the #1 priority here.Hardy Johnson[Edited on July 26, 2011 at 10:24 PM. Reason : ^ I need to find that gif]
7/26/2011 10:23:29 PM
^John Clayton made a good point about that, in regards to not having Peppers around, and the interior of the line was shittyadditionally, the Panthers were almost always playing from behind, so he was facing a lot of teams who were running the ball towards the end of the game, yet still notched 11.5 sackstake it for what it's worth
7/26/2011 10:32:24 PM
Meeks' defensive schemes free the D-Ends to shoot up the field without worrying about their gaps. While his scheme is heavily reliant on quality speed-rushers, they typically great stats in his system.Rivera will run a D that is more similar to Philly's, with blitzers coming from all over. Don't expect Johnson to get double-digit sacks again.
7/26/2011 10:42:41 PM
he's said he'll have elements of the 3-4 defense but we'll still be a 4-3 defense team, so i don't think we should expect as many blitzes as Andy Reid throws out therehopefully he won't have double digit sacks because 5-6 different Panthers each have 7-8
7/26/2011 10:47:19 PM
seems like everyone wanted Johnson to resign, and now that he has been signed and the financials are available, everyone is hating on himwhat were the Panthers supposed to do? the guy proved he can play, and better to pay him then let him go to the Falcons
7/26/2011 10:47:37 PM
7/26/2011 10:53:14 PM
7/26/2011 10:57:25 PM
i thought so but i guess now that i think of it they just use a shitload of blitzes, its harder to get away with that in a 4-3 without a good secondary which the Panthers don't have
7/26/2011 10:58:55 PM
one thing you can say about Johnson is that he rarely if ever got a coverage sack
7/26/2011 11:00:29 PM
maybe in 2009 or something but not with last year's cast of misfits
7/26/2011 11:01:42 PM
the Gamble situation needs to be addressedand i'm not sold on either Godfrey or Martinmaybe a change in coaching will shine light on these players, good and bad]
7/26/2011 11:04:15 PM
we signed Kendric Burney, duh. at least we know the players have a hookup for parking tickets in Charlotte
7/26/2011 11:06:12 PM
i'm convinced that not only is Nnamde gonna get way too much money since like 10 teams will be bidding on him, but that Jonathan Joseph is gonna get paid too much in a bidding war between all the teams that didnt get Asomughai dont think Gamble is the problem though, and Godfrey had a decent season last year, but i dunno about Marshall and Munnerlyn, not a huge fan of either
7/26/2011 11:23:13 PM
can't imagine the jets with both revis and asomugha. that's just downright unfair
7/26/2011 11:26:31 PM
wow this johnson thing has given me a slight tinge of optimismnow let's hope he wasn't some contract yr fluke [Edited on July 26, 2011 at 11:45 PM. Reason : k]
7/26/2011 11:44:56 PM
since UNC fans have posted back to back in a thread with 'Carolina' in the title, I feel the need to post 41-10nothing personal, can't let you people take over TWW though]
7/26/2011 11:46:00 PM
well we could go for 3 but not sure who the third would have been, I guess jctarheel and tuliplovrand to clarify my last post, I meant a hope as in richardson might actually want to pay for a real team now not like johnson himself is going to turn things around
7/26/2011 11:53:15 PM
nah i agree with your post, in fact i think there are a number of TWWers who think Richardson is a cheap owner based solely on last year and not the franchise historybrilliant move (in hindsight) to get the #1 pick when you had a good feeling that you'd be paying him half of what St. Louis gave Bradford a year earlier...assuming Newton becomes a good NFL playerDeangelo's situation will be interesting over the next few days, as well as if they sign T Davis to a longterm deal, who we go after in free agency, whats up with Steve Smith, are we gonna bring in a veteran QB, etc

7/27/2011 12:00:40 AM
Speaking of Johnson being drafted, always kind of interesting to look back and see what the "experts" were saying when he was being evaluated. Pretty spot on:
7/27/2011 12:10:35 AM
lol Quentin Moses, whats he done for anyone lately
7/27/2011 1:38:56 AM
signed DT Ron Edwards
7/27/2011 11:15:28 AM
This sounds like what Kemo's role was for us before. Just eat up some blocks and let the other down lineman go after it.
7/27/2011 11:23:11 AM
i like it
7/27/2011 11:46:00 AM
he's 32 which goes against the "youth movement", but i think part of the youth movement was in actuality preparing for the lockout, which resulted in cutting the contracts of more expensive veterans
7/27/2011 1:11:03 PM
Those rookie DT's need to need a vet to show them the ropes. So we got a teacher and instant production on the line. Win/Win
7/27/2011 1:19:11 PM
oh definitelypart of me wanted Damione Lewis back, but he's already signed elsewhere...Ron Edwards works for me
7/27/2011 1:26:37 PM
per AdamSchefter : Carolina and RB DeAngelo Williams reached agreement on a five-year, $43 million deal that includes $21 million in guaranteed money.
7/27/2011 1:37:31 PM
Deangelo here for 5 more years

Da Pantha gon be some dirty niggas now they got DeAngela Willam$
7/27/2011 1:40:55 PM
i kinda thought williams would end up w/ more $ than charles johnson, but i guess johnson's value will be higher in a few years compared to a RB
7/27/2011 1:42:06 PM
it's been a good day and a half
7/27/2011 1:42:43 PM
and here comes our veteran QBAdamSchefter : Browns releasing QB Jake Delhomme; he would like to continue playing.
7/27/2011 1:50:13 PM
hell yeah! (to DWill, not Delhomme)
7/27/2011 1:52:00 PM
just offer delhomme 5 dollas guaranteed, like bagger vance got
7/27/2011 1:54:19 PM
Just listened to Johnson's interview with PFTLets just say he's lucky he's a gifted athlete, because the man can hardly speak English
7/27/2011 1:54:51 PM
7/27/2011 1:55:44 PM
^^haha i just got done listening to that...Florio's interview skills could use some work, there were so many awkward pausesit's crazy Johnson just met Rivera yesterday, and said he loved how he fit into the scheme...i'm very excited to see what Rivera's defense will look like
7/27/2011 2:07:58 PM
signed Ben Hartsock to 2-yr deal

7/27/2011 2:31:50 PM
We have an owner that is the leading voice against rising player salaries and within a week of signing the deal he signs Olindo Mare to a 12 M deal? OMG WTF[Edited on July 27, 2011 at 2:35 PM. Reason : .]
7/27/2011 2:34:47 PM
rising rookie player salaries
7/27/2011 2:36:07 PM
I guess richardson feels he got his way in the lockout and is now actually trying to build a franchise again, I'm still not very enthused until he's done it at the qb position
7/27/2011 2:37:21 PM
