Until Patrick Stickles' name is on that "former members" list, TA will be fine. That said, Klein was fucking awesome at what she did.

kinda surprised i haven't seen anyone talking about youth lagoon. probably one of the most pleasant surprises of the year for me. pretty much every song has a really nice, catchy melody. granted, there are only 8 tracks, but still.

edit: also got BNM'd by pitchfork, not that i care that much, but some of you are into that kind of thing.

Yep, I like it.

Anybody got any recommendations that haven't been mentioned in this thread yet?

I've been listening to Amy Klein's EP a lot the past week or two.

Jury's still out...definitely better than the 5.3 it was given. Although M83 pretty much went the same direction with Saturdays = Youth a couple of years ago...and Destroyer kinda did earlier this year also.

I'm digging the new Rich Aucoin and of course, Future Islands.

Deertick has a voice that I think the Chinese use for forced suicide.

Wow. I don't know how anybody can get through one song of this.

Pitchfork bestows another BNM upon Bradford Cox. Ho-hum.

I do like Deerhunter a lot, though. I haven't listened to the new Atlas Sound yet, but I'm sure it's good. Youth Lagoon reminds me of a lesser Galaxie 500 (I mean that as a definite compliment).

We saw Atlas Sound at Moog. It was pretty boring, but I'm not sure what we were expecting seeing him live, and right after Austra.

^Yeah, I'm a big fan of Deerhunter's live show but I thought what little I saw of Atlas Sound at Hopscotch '10 was painfully boring. Austra was pretty cool at Moog.

Odd... my two experiences seeing Atlas Sound (New Years Eve 2009 at the 40 Watt in Athens and Hopscotch 2010) were both amazing, whereas my one experience seeing Deerhunter (October 2010 at Cats Cradle) was atrocious (sloppy, under-rehearsed, sound problems).

The Atlas Sound live music is certainly more skeletal and ambient than Deerhunter, but I find Bradford Cox to be so likable and engaging on stage when he is performing as Atlas Sound. Also, that acoustic version of Helicopter that he played at Hopscotch before Halcyon Digest was released was one of the best live music moments I've ever experienced.

Apparently Megafaun got half their album cover from this:

Don't know how in the world I didn't notice that earlier.

I don't know if I'm just suddenly really picky, but in the last 2 days I've listened to the new Real Estate, Youth Lagoon, Bombadil, Deer Tick, M83, and Girls (I know I'm a little behind) and I didn't really like any of them.

Also, not sure I understand this, but the cover to the album is cool.
This crap sucked so bad at Moogfest that we stayed on patio the whole time.

You must be suddenly really picky--Bombadil album has been great, and was awesome at the release party last night.

so, on XMU last week bradford cox told a story about how he was in a hospital a while back, and his bed was next to a little girl dying of e. coli. Said she was a baseball player's daughter and that she died a miserable death..........

The more I listen to Strange Mercy, the more I think it's my AOTY. It gets richer and richer, both lyrically and musically, each time I put it on.

^^ I've never been able to get into St. Vincent

^ Girls lost favor with me because they were so boring and uninspired when I saw them live in Philadelphia

My album of the year will probably be Atlas Sound- Parallax, but there isn't a clear runaway favorite this year. Last year was easy for me with the Suburbs.

I kinda want to give album of the year to Beach Boys- SMILE.

We'll see...

They did a fantastic job with that (the mastering is incredible), and managed to include some small snippets I've never heard, even after listening to dozens of hours of Smile stuff over the years. Still, I'm not sure you can go AOTY on something that's made up of 95% previously released material.

^ yeah, I agree with that.

I might just have a few #2's (Atlas Sound- Parallax, Real Estate- Days, Woods- Sun & Shade) and not have a #1.

I think the people who would say "Bon Iver had the album of the year" should all be rounded up and exterminated.

That album was so bad it leaked and spilled over into my appeal of his last two albums, and I now kinda want to throw them both in the trash.
