The mid-major most likely we hire will be taking a huge chance.

At least with Pearl/Gillespie you are getting a proven commodity who has won at the major level.

Fuck no to Pearl. Give a guy his 2nd chance right after he's kicked out? You have to let him think about it first.

You just like him because he's like the Chuck Amato of basketball, with talent.

I understand that. But looking at our history 2 of our 3 really good coaches were in NCAA trouble.

I mean I would take Gillespie/Pearl in a heartbeat over say a Cuonzo Martin. But then again I was okay with Calipari coming.

i get it that you want to disagree with me here, and that's cool, but that is the worst fucking rationale i have ever heard in my life.

it's ok if we get a coach that fucks our program up... wouldn't be the first time!!1

now we should celebrate and embrace our history of sanctions as well as winning! let's revive both!!

Reading the Yow's Hires post on Packpride, I'm pretty sure their "inside" writers are borrowed from PackInsider.

Not sure Yow would want him given his recruiting investigation...especially considering her initial reaction to the UNC debacle.

after hearing Yow talk about our program, I can confidently say there is zero chance that Bruce Pearl would come here. This reminds me of all those people who wanted us to get rid of TOB and bring in Mike Leach

Because there isn't any information out there, I re-present this article from 2008 about Bobby Purcell from the WSJ.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122178385188954793.html

Highlights for those who had forgotten:

Quote :
"The $27 million he raised in donations this year was a richer haul than several schools currently ranked in college football's top 10."

Quote :
"Mr. Purcell's club recently surpassed 20,000 donors, which is more than four times as many as Ohio State."

Search committee has been named...
Quote :
"
The committee includes: Kevin D. Howell, Assistant to the Chancellor for External Affairs; Dr. Samuel L. Pardue, Faculty Athletics Representative and University Athletics Council Chair; David J. Horning, Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director and D. Christopher Kingston, Senior Associate Athletic Director. Yow will chair the committee.
“I appreciate the willingness of the group to serve in this important selection. They are committed to the success of NC State Athletics and understand the importance of their roles in the process,” added Yow.

Parker Executive Search has been selected to assist in the national search to find a new coach to lead the Wolfpack men’s basketball program.

so i have this idea for a pool, but it only works w/ money so i don't know if it's possible on tww, but here are the rules:

the objective is to correctly predict who the next coach of nc state's basketball team will be. every entry costs a set amount of money. you may buy as many entries as you like. in the event that someone gets it correct, the winner will receive half of the money and the other half will be evenly distributed to all participants. in the event that no one gets it correct, the pool will be evenly distributed to all participants.

who's in??

what happens when mulitple people pick the same coach or if no repeats are allowed how do you determine picking order?

Perhaps I'm misreading the rules, but what's the point of giving half back to the pool - why not just cut the entry fee in half and scrap the entire pool distribution

i.e. 10 entries @ $10 a pop, winner takes $50 and $5 returned to all members = $5 entry fee, all going to winner

The only benefit of having a higher fee is to the organizer skimming money off the top

^^ no repeats allowed. good question about picking order, my plan was to just open the flood gates.

^ the point of giving half out evenly is to discourage buying multiple picks. the more picks you buy the less your rate of return for winning.

Quote :
"Tudor's Take: Yow forms tight circle for N.C. State search

The coaching search committee announced today by N.C. State athletics director Debbie Yow probably means the quest to hire Sidney Lowe’s successor will be a close-knit mission.

Yow selected a four-man group that includes assistant ADs David Horning and Chris Kingston, faculty athletics rep Samuel Pardue and chancellor’s aide Kevin Howell.

It’s a tight circle that is noticeably absent of anyone directly associated with the Wolfpack Club. Also excluded were students."

What is so confusing about that?

It's not uncommon to put one student on a search committee to have someone representing every group of the University present and accounted for.
